Dinner in a Country Lodge

Welcome to the 469th Tablescape Thursday!

It’s still warm here in Georgia, but some David Carter Brown plates I purchased recently have put me in the mood for a bit of fall fun.

Autumn Lodge Table Setting, Acorn Tureens

I almost placed this table setting in the dining room since it has more of an autumn feel with its red walls.

But in the end I decided to stay on the porch since it was so nice out with temps in 80’s.

To give the table more of an autumn feel, I used a forest-green, wool throw as a tablecloth.

Fall-Autumn Tablescape, Lodge Theme

The throw brings back a lot of memories, it was purchased many years ago during a family skiing trip t0 Snowshoe, West Virginia.

When a David Carter Brown dish pattern catches my eye on eBay, I’m rarely able to find eight plates. They always come in sets of four. You may remember the woodland-themed DCB plates from this table setting: Northwoods Forest Woodland Table Setting.

When I purchased those, I was only able to find four. While I was organizing my dishware collection recently into the new cabinets in the garage, I decided to see if four more Northwoods Forest plates had been listed for sale. They had and I purchased those giving me a full set of eight.

While looking on eBay to complete that Northwoods Forest set, another pattern caught my eye, and those are the ones I’m using today. Again, I was only able to find four plates, so that’s why this table is set for four.

Cabin Lodge Themed Table with David Carter Brown's Country Lodge Plates

I try so hard to resist David Carter Brown, but he gets me every time. lol This whimsical pattern is called Country Lodge and it definitely has that hunting trip/cabin/lodge feel. The dinner plate I’m using underneath is by Noritake, part of their Color wave Collection. It’s brown on the bottom with brown edging around the plate.

I’m using rustic grapevine chargers purchased long ago, forgotten where now…may have been William Sonoma or Pier 1. I think a BNOTP reader alerted me that they were on sale for a ridiculous low price ($1.99 each, I think) and I purchased eight. I announced it on Facebook in case any BNOTP readers wanted a set. That was such a great deal! (Find BNOTP on Facebook HERE.)

The twig flatware is from West Elm several years back.

Table Setting for Cabin or Lodge

Paisley napkins are layered over plain gold napkins for a bit of autumn color. The gold works great with the colors in the plates. The deer napkin rings were a gift from my sweet friend, Linda.

Let’s check out the other adorable designs David Carter Brown created for this pattern.

All the plates in this pattern are so creative and whimsical!

David Carter Brown has created several patterns that are what I think of as “sign” plates. I love all his “sign” plates and have purchased a few of his summer and Christmas patterns.

Fishing Cabin, Lodge Tabe Setting

So cute! These would set a great table for anyone who enjoys camping, fishing, hunting or woodland activities.

The “Moose Crossing” sign cracks me up! 🙂 I was able to find another set of this pattern recently, so the next time I use these I’ll be able to set a table for six. If I hadn’t found another set, these would have paired up well with the DCB Northwoods pattern that I already have.

For the centerpiece, I pulled out some cute woodland deer. I started to remove the greenery from around their necks since it looks a bit Christmasy, but I loved how it looked with the plates and the wool throw, so decided to leave it.

The antlers at their feet were purchased on eBay a few years back and were listed as “shed” antlers. You can tell they were laying on the ground for a while because a few of the tips appear to have been gnawed on by some other woodland creature. lol

  1. Susan, this table scape is so pretty. I love everything! I especially love the wool throw to set it all off. Your reindeer are gorgeous! It’s so fall looking. A very happy table.

  2. I enjoyed this! That dark green throw really sets the tone. So perfect for the up north feel. I can see why you love those plates- can you imagine how cute they’d be in a rustic cabin! People come up here for camping, fishing and hunting all the time so I can relate. Love the paisley napkins, deer and the antlers. We’ve warmed up quite a bit here and are expecting 89 today and 90 tomorrow. It’s crazy for us- at least 20 degrees higher than normal. I do think it’s because of the hurricanes- pushing the currents around!

    • Oh, I know! I would LOVE to own a cabin in the woods, would never want to leave! lol
Wow, I bet you’re right…must be the effect from the hurricanes. I love the heat but 90 is a bit much. Hope you see some cooler temps soon, Liz!

  3. Susan, I absolutely love this table! The David Carter Brown plates are so much fun, and I really like the acorn soup tureens. Great job and thanks for another great Tablescape Thursday!

  4. I am ready for Fall too! I really like the green “tablecloth” and I love the deer. I am using my Acorn tureens to serve vegetable soup for the first day of Fall tomorrow for dinner – can’t wait!

  5. Slowly but surely I’m settling into the idea of fall. Thanks for giving me an extra push with this beautiful table and thanks for hosting.

  6. Those plates are wonderful!!
I love the turkey that you used in your dining room table setting! Do you know where you purchased it? Probably bought it years ago, but worth a chance on getting one. Thanks

    • Thanks, MaryAnna!
I purchased him in Pottery Barn a few years back. I foolishly passed him up the first year they had him, even after he went on sale because he was so pricey. I regretted it and the next year when they brought him back, I didn’t even wait for a sale.
Every now and then I used to see him on eBay. This would be a good time to start looking for him there since Thanksgiving will soon be here.
You can see him a bit better in this post: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/thanksgiving-tablescape-with-rustic-turkey-centerpiece-and-turkey-tureens/

Pottery Barn needs to bring him back! I noticed they do have a large turkey soup tureen out this year.

      • Susan,
I will start looking. He is beautiful. I sometimes have really ponder on making a “seasonal” purchase, but when you see something that you really love, you just do what you have to do!!! Thanks so much.
        Mary Anna

  7. Susan, I NEED some of those dishes. I couldn’t wait for you to provide a link so I could click over to buy them. I was so disappointed when I read you bought them on ebay. I’ll be scouring ebay now, so if you plan to look for four more, we may get into a bidding war. Wonderful table, as always, and I love that you used your ski trip blanket as a table cover. Thank for hosting.

    • lol Don’t worry, I have 8 now so I won’t be buying anymore. Laurie, when I’m on eBay, I will check for them and shoot you an email if I see any. Every time I come across another set of DCB plates that I’ve never seen before, makes me wonder if he is still designing plates. I purchased the first set of these a couple of months ago and just found four more a few days ago. It’s so odd how patterns keep showing up that I’ve never seen before. I definitely would have remembered these.

  8. Susan, you are so well connected, please talk to the weather master and have her drop the temperature. 91 yesterday. I can’t look at fall in this heat.
I have a question…..You use your twigs often. They are charming, but how do they feel in your hand? Where is the balance and are the tines sharp? Since I copy so much from you, should I copy these?

    • lol 91 degrees is a bit much, I’ll see what I can do. 😉
I think they fit well in the hand. I’ve used them for a dinner party on the porch with friends and loved them. I always wash them by hand, though…would not put them in the dishwasher in case it would fade them or damage them.
Unfortunately, I don’t think West Elm has them anymore. Last year, Pier 1 had some really, really cute twig flatware in gold that I almost purchased. I’m not sure if they still have them, though.
I would just try googling for “twig flatware” to see if anyone is stocking some right now.

  9. Susan, what a beautiful table to welcome Fall tomorrow. The David Carter Brown plates are so much fun. I have been wanting to purchase twig flatware, now is the time!

  10. I know one or two people in these parts that would love your Lodge-themed table. It is very nice and I love those plates. I didn’t know you could buy antler sheds online. I will definitely check that out now that I know.

Thank you for hosting this great party.

    • I was surprised when I discovered that, too. They were a bit pricey but I do love to decorate with them. I wish I lived where I could walk through the woods and find shed antlers. 🙂

  11. Elizabeth Roderick says

Love this table. It makes me think of a lodge in the woods. You’re making me want to collect dishes again. Can’t wait to check out David Carter Brown.

  12. Welcome to my world of “Log Cabin-Sweet-Log Cabin!” I have those same deer and use antlers (although, I’ve “gilded” ours…gaaaa….I know, I know.) Using your wool throw is something I like to do, too…puts me in “the mood!” franki

  13. Dark green throw amidst all that white is really eye catching—genius! I didn’t even notice that those stags are sometimes disguised as reindeer on your tables. Looking at that scene, I can imagine that the temps are just about to drop thirty/forty degrees, right about as the soup is served. Lovely.

    • We had better move inside really fast, then! 😉 I’m looking forward to sweater weather (can’t believe I’m saying that!) and the holiday season. Wish we could fast-forward after Christmas right to spring, though.

  14. Susan,
I love your idea of using a wool throw as a tablecloth and I love that green!
I also love those “sign” plates and I remember those acorn soup tureens, (sooo cute) and those deer (sooo gorgeous)!
I already started two weeks ago decorating for fall as I love fall colors (and…pumpkins!) 🙂 not loving the sinking temperatures, though. 😉
    XO

What beautiful table settings. I recently purchased some Crow Canyon enamelware plates for an after Christmas luncheon we host for my husband’s side of the family. Last year I used a very long drop cloth for a tablecloth. We had to push two long tables together to accommodate everyone and the rustic feel of the painting drop cloth worked well. I can’t wait to use my new enamelware plates this year!

  16. I would love to have the bait and tackle fish plates. We are building a fishing cabin and I would love to have them . If you see them on eBay please send me a link to purchase.
You always have the best tablescapes – I love “Mr. Rabbit” that shows up through the year.

  17. Thank you for the party Susan, you certainly did create a cabin in the woods, so cute!!

  18. Love the plates! I bought the twig silverware a few yrs ago when I seen you had it. The wool throw is pretty too! Thank you! I’m ready for fall. I can visualize steaming hot squash soup topped with a dollop of sour cream in your soup tureens.

  19. Linda S. in NE says

What a beautiful setting you have created. You are so talented. I’m glad you kept the porch busy for a little longer. It was over 93 degrees here in Nebraska today. Not fall-like at all.

  20. I adore those plates!!!!

  21. Cyndi Raines says

Love the woodsy – fall theme. I am on the hunt for amber stemware, its so pretty. One day maybe the twig flatware, but I really like the antler flatware you have even better. (And the wish lists grows…haha).

  22. Beverly Anderson says

Cute! Re: “Recently puchased plates”…I see more garage cabinets in your future…

  23. Oh, I must have those plates!!! Our lake house is right down the road from Big Pines Lodge and we have a side cabin for our guests!!! Those plates would make the perfect accesory for my dinners! Or even to hang on the wall!!
I know nothing about ordering from EBay…..could you point me in right direction????? I’m a techie non know it all…..
(I order all of your suggestions for travel gear….just returned from gal pal trip to santa fe where I used the purse, pill organizer and light weight coat you told us about!)

    • Oh my gosh…you do need those plates. That’s amazing that you have a Big Pines Lodge down the road from you! 🙂

To shop on eBay, you just register with them. You need a Paypal account too since that’s what pretty much all the sellers on eBay take/require for payment. If you don’t have a paypal account, you’ll need to sign up for that. It’s been many years since I did that, so forgotten all the details, but I remember it was easy to sign up for it. You can either link a credit card or a checking account to your paypal for the payment source. I recommend a credit card since that’s always safer. It comes in handy for paying on other sites, too. A lot of websites take paypal these days.

Janey, I don’t know if there are any of the plates on eBay right now. You may have to keep checking back about once a week to see if some get listed. I purchased four a few months ago and just found four more on there recently. So you just have to keep checking regularly so you don’t miss them when they get listed.

  24. Hail West Virginia! That green throw is perfect for your “ground cover”. I love paisley, no matter what season, but fall is perfect. Fun table for the autumn equinox. Happy Fall, Susan!
ps You lit a fire under my feet, and I’ve taken care of 3 maintenance issues since your last post. Thank you. 🙂

  25. Love those David Carter Brown plates! The perfect tablescape to welcome Fall. So glad that you found another set of 4….and those twig placemats are perfect for those plates! I need to check out West Elm more often…love that flatware! Happy Fall Susan!
