Easy, Last Minute Outdoor Halloween Decorating Idea, Great for a Halloween Party!

Years ago I came across this awesome “haunted” house while on a tour of historic homes in Atlanta. This home wasn’t on the tour, we just walked by it en route to one of the tour homes. I loved it and thought it was one of the most cleverly Halloween decorated homes I had ever seen!

Looking more closely at all the components needed to create this look, I thought this really wouldn’t be that difficult to create. The hardest part would be boarding up the windows so I’d probably skip that part unless you really want to go all out.

If you’re hosting a Halloween party at your home and your looking for some last-minute decorating ideas, I’ve linked a lot of the items you would need to create this look below.

I actually bought these spiders last year, planning to use them on the four columns on my front porch. But since my porch was scheduled to be painted, I didn’t get to use them this year. I definitely want to use them next year, though! You’ll find them available here: Spiders.

You’ll need plenty of spider web to create this look.

You’ll find a lot of choices for webbing here: Spider Web. The finer you spread this webbing, the more realistic it looks, so a little goes a long way.

You’ll need a few ghosts or grim reapers. I like the black grim reapers for this look since they contrast nicely against the white spider web.

You’ll find plenty of grim reapers from which to choose here: Grim Reapers. Some aren’t that scary and some are very scary, so there’s a lot from which to choose to create the scary level you wish. 🙂

Finally, a few tombstones scattered here and there across your lawn will complete this haunted house look. You’ll find a lot of creepy tombstones here: Halloween Tombstones.

If you create this look for your home, please let me know. I would love to see photos and share them here at Between Naps On The Porch!

  1. Wow that was awesome! Love that they went to the trouble of boarding up the windows. I wonder if that was wood or maybe cardboard? They did an excellent job with the spider webs!

  2. That’s what I was going to say – the “boards” are probably cardboard.

  3. What a fun house! I’ve never seen boarded windows before – it really adds to the haunted look! 🙂

I’ve been reading a lot about how birds get caught in that webbing. I would not use it.

  5. Totally creative and spooooooky! Re the boards; could be just heavy stock cardboard covered in faux wood mac tac (or similar) using removable (adhesive) 3-M mounting strips? Thanks for sharing, Susan.
