A Hearty Breakfast Out On The Farm

Welcome to the 335th Tablescape Thursday!

It’s been a long time since Jean-Claude made an appearance in a table setting.

The last time he appeared, he was a waiter in a little French cafe. 😉

Jean Claude

The cold, cold weather we’ve been having has me dreaming of big hearty breakfasts with fresh eggs, homemade biscuits, grits, pancakes and bacon. Shhh, don’t say the “bacon” word too loud because you-know-who might hear us.

The whole time I was putting this table together, I kept singing the phrase “Farm Country Breakfast.” Has there been a commercial running lately with that phrase, because otherwise I have no idea why that was stuck in my head the entire time I was working on this table.

So, I scrawled it across the slate Jean-Claude is holding.

I still haven’t opened the Blis syrup. I’m saving it for a special occasion when I have overnight guests.

Remember the denim napkin rings I made a while back? I put them to work in our country breakfast tablescape.

These denim napkin rings are made from old jeans and they are a super easy DIY project to make.

You’ll find the tutorial for making them here: Make Denim Napkin Rings From Recycled Jeans. They also look great in 4th of July table settings.

I couldn’t resist using these cute rooster dishes in this country farm setting. Perhaps they could hold fruit or a big buttery biscuit. The salad plate would be great to use for the pancakes to keep the syrup from attacking the eggs, grits and bacon. Gosh, I’m hungry!

I forgot to take a picture of the Rooster dinner plates so I snagged a photo from a previous table setting. The pattern is Fall Rooster by Maxcera. I found them for $2 each in Marshalls several years ago.

Each place setting has its own little milk bottle, of course filled with fresh milk straight from the cows this very morning. 😉 A little section on the milk bottles could be painted with chalkboard paint; then they would do double duty as place card holders.

Each place setting has a little bottle of Vermont maple syrup for our blueberry pancakes made with fresh-picked blueberries.

I’ve created several breakfast settings here at BNOTP over the years. You can find them all here: Breakfast Table Settings

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address.

To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate.

That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.)

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.

  1. Thank you for the party! Stay warm!

    Blessings, Pam (www.everydayliving.me)

  2. That table is so darn cute, Susan. I pinned that denim craft post of yours when you originally shared it, and I get a lot of repins from it. THose napkins rings are perfect. What’s better than a big, country breakfast?! Thanks for the party, wish it was real.
    Rita

  3. At the staple nothing could be more perfect than a farm country breakfast. Without question blueberry pancakes with maple syrup among my favorite things.

  4. Wonderful breakfast table, and jean claude looks adorable! Thanks for another wonderful party!

  5. I heart those little rooster plates. How cute!! Thanks for hosting Susan.

    Big Texas Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  6. Love your fun rooster-shaped dishes Susan and your denim napkin rings are perfect too! Stay warm 🙂

    • It was 13 here this morning. Yuck! How cold is where you are, Mary? My son said it was -1 when he was driving into work. 13 looks pretty good after hearing that.

  7. OK, OK! Tell Jean-Claude to look the other way while I steal the chicken plates and the chicken bowls!!! Just too cute! You better hide them really well before I show up for a visit or they will be coming to Texas with me, Missy!!! I love Jean-Claude. The look on his cute face is priceless!

  8. I just adore your beautiful and fun breakfast table. I use a pig often for my table too, but that is because I live in Smithfield, Va. That is where all the hams and a lot of bacon comes from. Your table is so cheery and perfect for a start to a great day. I sure would like to be invited! The individual items- milk bottles and maple syrup are just perfect. You did it again, Susan !

  9. Oh how I would love a nice buttery pancake on this freezing morning! I love your cheery setting Susan, the plates are adorable, and your chef is doing a great job overseeing everything! The denim napkin rings are perfect! Thanks for the great tablescape party~

Oh, I just love Jean Claude! Isn’t he the cutest addition to your lovely tablescape. You always come up with the best centerpieces, too, which makes the settings so inviting. I saw a similar piggy (I mean handsome chef) years ago. Now, I wish Id purchased him. I have been looking for chargers like yours from Horchow to no avail. I keep hoping they’ll bring them, or similar ones, back again–they are sooo beautiful and would match with several sets of dinnerware we have.

    • Bobbi, someone just asked where to get one on Facebook. I googled and it looks like Home Decorators Collection has some that are very similar. I found Jean Claude at Home Depot Expo and Home Decorators Collection is owned by Home Depot. Here’s a link to the one I found: http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Pastry-Chef-Pig-with-Chalkboard/00/310/
You may find some more online, that was just the first one that popped up. I don’t know why Horchow hasn’t gotten in more of the white and pierced chargers. I bought them both at the same time. I did see the white swirl ones on there one time a year or so after I purchased mine, but haven’t seen them on Horchow since.

  11. Ahh this looks so inviting! Love all the color and the cute dishes you used. My pig has been hiding in a closet lately! This table definitely speaks Farm Country Breakfast! I’ve always had a vision of a white country farm kitchen with a simple kind of farm table centered in the kitchen area that is used like a working station. I know everyone likes the islands but one of those farm table seems so much more quaint!

    • Liz, it is funny that we got away from having a table in the kitchen, but then started putting islands there instead. I so agree…table is a lot more quaint. You certainly never hear of folks having late night talks or sharing a cup of coffee while sitting around an island. 🙂

  12. I love the denim napkin rings! I am going to do that pronto! Thanks for hosting

  13. Oh Susan! This is too darling! I have a similar “pig chef” named Pierre in my kitchen. Your beautiful tablescapes just leave us with such great inspiration! It’s simply the best! Thank you, thank you!

  14. What a cheerful table to wake up to. The red checked napkins and those great rooster plates work so well for breakfast on the farm. Individual milk bottles and syrups are such a good idea. I’ll hide my bacon from Jean-Claude. Thanks for hosting and for the inspiration you give me.

  15. Roxanne Bernard says

Your table setting looks especially warm and inviting this coooold morning! My pig is named Pascal, and he sits on my kitchen island. I found him years ago in the gift shop at the Atlanta Symphony showhouse. At Christmas he wears a Santa hat and bunny ears at Easter. J’adore him!! Today his chalkboard says “Baby it’s cold outside!” Warm hugs to you Susan!

    • I love it Roxanne! Pascal knows how to get in the spirit of the holiday! 🙂 One year after my son and dil were here for Christmas, after they had left, I found Jean Claude wearing reindeer antlers. Not sure who decked him out with the antlers but I left them on him for several months because it made me laugh each time I saw him.

  16. Susan, Love the country farmhouse tablescape. I would love to wake up to breakfast here, sure to start the day with a smile! Thanks for hosting.

Today his chalkboard reads “Baby it’s cold outside”. Warm hugs to you Susan!!

  18. Hi, Susan,
I love this table! All the colors, patterns and textures really reflect the atmosphere of a country breakfast. You can almost smell the bacon cooking! I hope things warm up for you……stay comfy and cozy. Rosie

Susan, you’re too much. How do you keep coming up with these? You made me hungry, too! I’ll be right over. 😉

There are so many cute elements to this table; I love all the color play of the various dishes, as well as those checked napkins! The denim napkin rings seem like the perfect compliment. Those tiny maple leaf bottles always make me smile. 😀 The milk bottles are a unique touch, as is our weary friend, Jean Claude. Ce est la vie pour d’un petit cochon, oui? I wish you a wonderful day, my friend. Mais, ce est la vie pour d’un petit cochon, oui? Je vous souhaite une merveilleuse journée, mon ami.

  20. Super cute and as always, so clever. You do an outstanding job with your table designs and photography! I feel like I am right at the table. =)

  21. SharonFromMichigan says

Yep – I’m hungry now! What is with this weather? Today, Michigan is supposed to have a high of 5 degrees! In the really cold weather, we tend to eat a lot, not sure why the appetites kick in when it’s cold. I can’t wait for Spring!!!!! Love the chicken plates!

  22. I want to come eat breakfast with you!! 🙂 Beautifully set table, as always.

  23. Easily one of my favorite tablescapes you have done!!! I love the idea of a rich, indulgent country breakfast 🙂 As a fellow rooster-decorator I just love this table!

  24. Each table is gorgeous and so country and so inviting! I feel like eggs and bacon right away dear Susan.
I adore all those dishes, they’re so cute and cheery. I love breakfast food the best…sometimes I even have breakfast menu food for dinner, lol!
Have a wonderful and warm weekend ahead.
    FABBY

  25. Oh, this is so stinkin cute!!! And so cheerful…….we need some cheer right about now…….it is 8 degrees here…….Love the napkin rings and those little maple leaf bottles. Makes me hungry for pancakes!!!

And yes, we are all craving high carbs and comfort food in this extreme cold……..layer on the fat!!! xoxoxo

  26. Susan, What a darling table!! Jean Pierre is a belle Cochon. I have seen him before in a small bistro cafe announcing the lunch menu on his chalkboard. Wish we lived closer so he could visit for my Mother’s pokeno game in May.
I use red, white & blue from May through September so I will be making those bluejean napkin rings to go with my Liberty Blue dinnerware which was a promotional gift with purchase at grocery stores in 1976 for the Bicentennial. I also have a rare Liberty Blue platter which was made for a few banks as a promotional gift for customers. Now you have me on the hunt for red & white cloth napkins. BTW, my 6X great-grandfather was Jean Pierre LaBorde. He came from France to New Orlleans, then to Avoyelles Post via riverboat. He was the first surgeon/coroner for the Post. I wonder what kind of dinnerware he and his bride brought with them. As always, thanks for bringing much joy to my days. Stay well and warm. Ashley

  27. I love Jean-Claude and the cute milk bottles. You made me feel hungry, so had to go eat lunch!!! 🙂

  28. Jean-Claude has definitely staked his claim over this table and it is lovely.

  29. Oops!! I called Mr. Chef Jean Pierre rather than Jean Claude. My apologies to him. It’s sometimes difficult to tell those handsome cousins apart. LOL.

  30. Susan, this would be a fun table to begin any day, cold or not. Jean Claude is so handsome! I’ve missed seeing him.
    Stay warm!

  31. I love this. It’s so simple and makes one long for a nice spring breeze and not this arctic freeze.
I also love looking at the other links and seeing things we sell that I wanted to get but talked myself out of. Who needs a reindeer mug I said. And now look, I see a reindeer mug that can be used for more than classic hot chocolate or egg nog. See what happens when you “don’t” impulse buy? LOL

  32. Hello…I love your porch and your page has so many wonderful tips. We added one about a year ago so it’s fun to read your blog and check out all the great decorating ideas. I do have a question. Do you have windows over your screens or the plexi inserts? I would really like to add something over ours which is why I’m asking. Thanks.

    • Thanks, Lisa! No, I don’t have anything over them. The only time I wish I did was during pollen season, but fortunately that only lasts a few weeks.

  33. I’m so excited! I had to tell you all first!! I got to start on my first wall changing out the fall/winter lines over to spring/summer! I am so excited not only to be learning but I picked up a tablecloth that will last from Christmas to Valentines day!

And Susan I bragged about your bedskirt today. Everyone loved the idea. She’s so smart is all they kept saying.

    • Oh, I can’t wait to see what all they have in store for spring. I would be in so much trouble working there…would want to buy everything that came in. Oh, thanks Jeri…you are so nice! Glad they liked the idea. Hopefully they will bring back the comforter next year and maybe offer the fabric by the yard for bedskirts and such. 🙂

  34. Hi Susan- I was hoping you might know if there are any stores in the greater Atlanta area that carry my formal china pattern, Wedgwood Golden Bird, now discontinued. Or if any of your readers might know…

Replacements Ltd. is out of most of this pattern. Ebay has just a few listings in the US. I would really appreciate any leads!

    Stay warm!
