Fireside Dining in the Library with Spode Woodland

Welcome to the 27th Tablescape Thursday!

When I came across this room in a magazine, the thing that really caught my eye stopping me dead in my tracks, was the gorgeous tablecloth. It was just so over-the-top and impractical, which of course, was exactly why I loved it! I started pricing lace tablecloths online and quickly realized I would not be buying one any time soon–some were over $1,000!

A few weeks ago, when I visited my sister, Glenda, she offered me a pretty spread she had bought for her bed but had decided to not use.

Won’t you join me for an intimate dinner for two in the library. Okay, it’s the living room but for this evening, it’s the library.  This side is “library like”…so dream along with me. I’ve always thought the perfect dining room would be lined with shelves of old, musty, leather bound books and of course a crackling, hot fire.

Family Room with Hunt Nature Themed Judges Paneling

So here’s our fire…and how do you like our “lace” tablecloth. Notice how it sprawls across the floor like the inspiration photo.

This room has a bit of a doggie theme.

Make a Doggie Lamp

So, I’ve carried this theme right onto our table…

Spode, Woodland seemed the perfect china for our evening in our cozy, hunt themed library…

The salad plate…

And the dinner plate…

We’ll sip our wine from crimson glasses, in front of a glowing, hot fire…

Of course, there must be candlelight.

In the library we’re surrounded by incredible tales and beautifully written stories…

As we create our own story…

A perfect evening for a cozy dinner.

Especially love the Staffordshire dog statues; I have two of the real living, breathing, barking Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and they are quite flattered that you included them in your lovely vignette.

  50. Styling by Coty Farquhar, Australia says

    Hi Susan,

You really have a very glamorous table setting this week, very beautiful. I actually have a set of the the same phesant dinner plates, I have had them for years and I bought them when I worked at Vogue Entertaining Guide Magazine many years ago.

My post this week is really quite different, very rustic and Australian, using simple Aussie country style objects for outdoor entertaining.

I have also been photographing today a very glamorous tea party, I plan to have it ready for next week.

    Have a fun day,
    xxx Coty Farquhar

  52. I love that look in the “library”. So warm, but rich. Love the dogs – remind me of our cocker spaniel. By the way, I saw a picture of Ina Garten’s dining room in a magazine and it is like a library – bookshelves and books….and she spreads stuff all over the table and uses it. Very nice! Linda

  53. Another winning tablescape to delight the senses Susan! I’ll just bet we’ll be seeing that gorgeous lace coverlet again in the future…at least, I hope so!

  60. Hi, Susan
I love your blog and your pictures of tablescapes are just gorgeous. I would love to participate in Tablescape Thursday, but have not been able to figure out how to add your logo to my sidebar and I don’t know how to do the Mr. Linky thingy. I printed out your instructions, but I’m not very computer “literate”. Maybe you could give me some pointers and I can try again next week. Thank you for your help, and thank you for helping bring a little more beauty to life.
    🙂 Brenda

Now….I just have to say, I absolutely love love love this setting. It takes my breath away!

Everytime I see your double bonnet secretary, it makes me want to e-mail Richard Cottrell, see if he still has the one at his shop and ask if he does lay away. What would I do with it? Where would I put it? I don’t know, I just love it!

    Great post!

The dog theme was perfect, and especially the little one holding the posies! I hope you get to visit my “Nostalgic Tea Tablescape” today… It totally took on a different turn than I’d imagined.
