The Witch is In!

Welcome to the 246th Metamorphosis Monday!

I last posted about the front porch when it got a good bath and was relieved of all that yucky mildew and dirt it had accumulated during the intense rains we had all summer. Afterwards, I dressed the door with a fall basket.

With October almost half over, it was time to change out the basket for something with a bit more of a Halloween vibe.

Fall Color for the Porch

I waited until it was almost dark to take pictures. The porch still needs a pumpkin or two, but other than that, it’s ready for All Hallow’s Eve.

Halloween Porch Decorating Ideas_wm

My favorite decoration for the porch anytime of year, especially for holidays, would have to be a lantern.

Halloween Porch with Lanterns

Candlelight really conveys that welcoming feel I want for the porch on Halloween night, at Christmastime and for parties any time of the year. If  you don’t like decorating with real candles, use the faux candles with the flickering lights. Some are amazingly realistic.

Decorate for Halloween with Lanterns_wm

Corn shocks add a slightly spooky feel with arching branches looming out as you approach the door.

The Witch is in! 😉 You may remember the hat on the door from this previous Halloween tablescape: Dining in the Killer Cafe

I started out with this one but decided it might be a little too busy. It’s the one you see on the door in the first few pics of this post. It was also used in a previous table setting: Halloween Tablescape with Spider Cupcakes

Which one do you like better: this one or the solid black one with the orange accents?  This one has a HUGE black spider on it, just visible there on the lower right.

A Witches Hat for the Front Door

Here’s how the door looks with the black hat.

Need a flying lesson? 😉

A few pumpkins and some candy and I think I’ll be ready for the ghosts and goblins. They’ll soon be calling!

Have you decorated for Halloween, yet?

  2. Oh my gosh, Susan!
    How beautiful is that?
I love, love, love your Hallowen front porch!
Especially the last pic of it! I wish it was a painting, so I could buy it! 🙂
I do prefer the all black hat and, YES, I definitely need a flying lesson… can we fix an appointment? lol
Susan, unfortunately, people don’t really decorate or even celebrate Halloween here, but I do!
It’s an unavoidable and welcome symptom of my “American-itis”! LOL
    ~Hugs to you~
    Cecilia

    • Cecilia, you are so sweet! lol about the flying lesson. 🙂 That’s too bad they don’t celebrate it…it’s so much for kids and the adult who still feel like kids….like me! 😉

  3. Susan, Your front porch looks amazing! Love the door banner, and the solid black hat. How cute! I’m with you and lanterns. Yours are a great size and shape. Looks like you’re ready for Halloween. I need to get busy. Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. Love your front porch for Halloween, Susan! I like the black hat…but I am a sort of traditional orange and black gal when it comes to Halloween decor! Have a great week!…hugs…Debbie

    • Thanks, Debbie! I bet you’ve been decorating. Have you been getting any help from your staff? One of them needs to volunteer to wear a black furry costume for Halloween. 🙂

  9. Love your porch. It will go easily into fall with just a few changes. Thanks for hosting the party each week.

    Shannon @ bohemianjunktion.com

  10. Your porch looks so festive. It’s hard to believe that Halloween is just a little over two weeks away. Thanks for hosting!

  11. I really like the striped hat! Thanks for hosting.

  12. Hi Susan. I love your Halloween porch. I think both hats look great but if I had to choose one, I guess it would be the black hat. Thanks so much for hosting!

    Have a great week.
    Kristi

  13. So cute! Love the sign, and I like the solid black hat the best. It’s all adorable, the ghosts and goblins will love it!

  14. Susan,
Love your outdoor Halloween decor on your door. How is that purple strip attached? Glad you changed the hat because the black one looks best. Zebra looking one is way too big..give it back to the zebra! Yep, the porch needs some pumpkins and you’ll be ready for Halloween. Do you all get lots of Trick or Treaters? Glad we live in a Sr. citizens community, don’t have to deal with them. I didn’t mind the little kids but when the Middle or high school kids would come without a costume on and have king size pillowcases for candy and be so rude and obnoxious, it spoiled the entire evening. You were scared to say anything to them for fear of them damaging your property or car later in the night. The last two years we turned out all the lights and didn’t turn on porch light and nobody even rang the doorbell or knocked on the door. The community started having Halloween up in the shopping centers and schools, discouraging going door to door. It always amaxed me when young parents would bring a toddler around in costume that couldn’t even say the words or the parents had to carry them in their arms.

    • Thanks, Betty! It’s hanging from a nail. My front door is made of wood and I have a couple different nail holes in it for hanging different things at different heights, like basket, wreaths, witches hats. 🙂

  15. Such an outstanding ‘welcome’ for all the little trick and treaters, ! Loving the huge lanterns and as far as the hats go; my preference is the black one as feel it fits better in the scheme of things, whereas IMHO the striped one is a little ‘too funky’. ☺ -Brenda-

  16. Love the front porch all ready for Halloween! I don’t think I ever noticed how pretty your outdoor lights are, gorgeous! I’m linking up my headboard bench tutorial today. Thanks for the party 🙂 XO

  17. Susan, that is just adorable!! Thanks so much for hosting MM!!

  18. I like both, Susan. Not much help, am I?

We enhance our Autumn decorations with ghosts around our maple tree. We planned to put them out yesterday, but it was too rainy. Ghosts soon.

  19. Good Morning, Susan!! I love your Halloween Porch!! I think you picked the right hat in the end, that little pop of orange really makes it pop!! Then again, your porch always looks fantastic, regardless of what you are doing with it!! The after the Mildew, results were perfect, but I don’t envy you the work! Anyways, dear lady, Thank you so much for hosting your MM party!! I think you will enjoy the before and after on this one! Have a wonderful day, Susan!!
    Blessings,
    ~Theresa

  23. Gloria from Pgh says

Love your Halloween porch!! This year for some reason I have REALLY been into Halloween! I picked a number of new decorations — lanterns, lighted gourds, primitive crows (from Etsy). One new decoration I made in about 5 minutes. I got the idea from Pinterest. It’s a witch’s brew kettle. I had a couple of strings of battery op lights in harvest colors (green, orange, red, purple) that I bought to replace electric harvest lights I Have draped over my mantle. The battery op lights were not the right type of color — too bright, or intense a color — that thye really did not fit the mantle scape I was looking for. So I set them aside. Then I was looking on Pinterest for ideas and I saw a witch’s brew cauldron using battery op lights and poly fiber fill. If your lights have a phasing setting (as opposing to twinkle) it looks really cool. I bought an inexpensive metal bucket at a local craft store. I put the lights in the pot, just heaped haphazardly in the pot. I had a couple other strings of phasing battery op lights in reds and oranges so I used them too. I turned the lights on to phasing setting then put some of the poly fiberfill on top. With the variation in colors and phasing times, the cauldron really looks like it is boiling some poisonous witchy brew with the fiberfill really looking like steam. The lights have timers so they come on automatically, stay on for 6 hours then go out. It sits in my foyer right now with a witch’s broom next to it. I am going to put it in the garden next to the front porch on Halloween night with all of my various lanterns and jack-o-lanterns placed in the garden as a haunted pumpkin patch. Can’t wait for All Hallow’s Eve!

    • Gloria, sounds like you’ve done some great decorating! I really should try to do more of the fun things I see on Pinterest…so much inspiration there! The timer idea is brilliant! Your house would def be the one I’d go to! 🙂

  24. Love your Halloween touches!

    Jeanine

  25. Your porch is beautiful! So far, all I have done is hang a wreath…I better get moving! Thanks for hosting today!
    -Shelley

  26. Hi Susan! I love your Halloween porch! First of all your gorgeous side lights and hanging light caught my eye. Lovely. Love your corn husks and pretty mums. Now your door looks great. Love the door hanger and the sign. My preference is the black hat. Boy, you’ve been on the ball, sweet friend.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  27. Love your door banner with the black hat Susan! It’s a simple and perfect addition to your Fall porch. Your red door really stands out. Love it!

  28. You create the most gorgeous seasonal porches Susan…just love it…and the hat on the door is just perfect….and I really loved seeing the pic of the porch at night…magical!!!

  29. Oh…hit enter too soon….Thanks so much for hosting Susan and have a wonderful day!!!

  30. Completely adorable! Thank you for hosting!

  31. Your porch looks great! I like the solid black hat better, but both look good. Thanks so much for hosting.
    KC

  32. Your porch looks so good! Thanks for hosting! Have a happy week. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  33. Your entrance all decked out for Halloween is adorable, Susan! Wow, you did a fabulous job, your gonna have so many ‘trick’o’treaters!! Thank you so much for hosting this very unique party MM. Have a lovely week.

  34. Beautiful Halloween door. Such witchy fun.

Porch looks GREAT! I like the black hat the best.

  36. Rattlebridge Farm says

Susan, your porch is delightfully fun and festive. Love both hats!

  37. omg Susan, the porch is awesome…..THanks for hosting a great party each week. Christine from Little Brags

  38. Cute and festive!
I don’t decorate for Halloween, but would add a jack o lantern if the grands were going to be here.
Thanks for hosting again this week.

  39. Susan, I love your front porch. Mr. Scarecrow popping out of the mum is adorable. You must have endless energy to do all the creative things you do. I, too, love lanterns. Do you leave them out all the time? We’ve been in a rainy pattern lately. I’ve wondered how they’d do unprotected. ~Pam

  40. Love your porch, as always everything looks wonderful. Question, do you have any information on the Country Living Fair held in GA? Time, when and where?
I hope to go this year along with some friends.

    • Kathy, I don’t. I’m not going this year. Trying Googling “Country Living Fair in Stone Mountain 2013” and I bet something will pop up. I think they normally have a website with info each year.

  41. The porch is fabulous and the picture taken in the blue hour really makes it look spooky. Great job!

  42. Love it!! Can’t wait to be able to decorate my own house for the Holidays someday!

  43. I like the all black hat with the netting! =)

  44. So cute and inviting! I like the black hat best but you really cant go wrong either way. The lanterns are great!!

  45. Love your porch! Thanks so much for hosting! Life to the full! Melissa

  46. Darling, fun and festive Porch-a welcoming entrance for a good or bad witch!
    New follower! Jemma

  47. *In Love* with your front porch (back porch too). I like the black witches hat best. I have one as well and never thought to hang it for Halloween, so thank you for the inspiration. I was just about to ask how you hang things on your front door when I read– nails. I can’t do that as mine is a steel door with a oval glass inset. I dislike the wreath hangers, for many reasons, but No. 1, they (wreaths) hang too high. At the moment I’m trying for the 2nd time to hang the Command outdoor for glass hooks. Wish me luck! Any suggestions on how to attach the witches hat???

    • Thanks, Jerilyn! Have you tried those magnetic wreath hangers? I’ve seen them in Michaels. You just put one on one side of the door or glass and the other one on the other side. As long as the wreath isn’t super heavy, they work pretty well.

  48. Flying lessons made me laugh out loud. 🙂

This morning on my walk I saw a house decorated with huge spiders. One directly over the picture window in the middle of a huge web and 3 crawling up the wall. I was impressed and appalled at the same time. It was very creative in a creepy sort of way. :):)

Thanks for letting me play with you guys. :):):)

  49. i know I say this every week, but maybe if I keep insisting one day it will happen…Can I please move in? LOL or at least stop by for a cup of tea with one of your gorgeous table settings? You know I can cook, so I will offer to repay my visit with food as long as I can be there for a little while! You always give some much attention to detail and that is what makes your decorations so special! That door is lovely Susan! Thank you for sharing it with us, Hugs, Lizy

  50. Hi, Susan,
You’ve done it again!! I love your porch, and the lanterns really enhance everything! I’ll never know how you do all that you do. I can barely get a table done to participate in “Tablescape Thursday every week! You rock! Rosie

  51. Susan – Y0ur porch is fabulous! Thanks for the inspiration and for another great party.
    Blessings to you this week,
    Patti

  52. Love your decorated door and porch! I like the black hat best – I have the same one, I’m going to wear it for a party!

And where did you get your corn stalks?

    Cheryl

  53. Susan, I love your Halloween Porch – I agree the black witch’s hat looks much better. There’s something about corn stalks that just finish a Fall porch display – just love them! Thanks for hosting another Metamorphesis Monday party!

  54. ~Susan~
Your porch looks wonderful !! I haven’t even opened the closet door that holds all my fall/Halloween decor, I really need to (what we call in Indiana) “Get the Lead out” hehee.
I really like your lanterns too !! did you use real candles?
    Have a super day
    Paula

  55. Hi Susan, Your doorway looks so inviting, even with a witch hat on it! I see that your boxwoods are thriving. And I agree with you–lanterns are the best accessory for a porch. I don’t do any outdoor halloween now as no one comes around here now, but I have some indoor items. Lots of fall things outside, though, like mums, scarecrow and pumpkins. Linda

  56. Susan – you could hang a burlap sack on your front door and it would still be beautiful. LOL When you have a red door and a porch as beautiful as you do, anything works. BUT, I really love the witch’s hat. xxoo, Barb

ps – are you going to go to the CL Fair? I hope to be there with Debbie at Confessions.

  57. First of all – Thank you Susan for hosting. Your front entry is fabulous. Not to much, just right. The black and purple banner looks beautiful against the red door. I love the cornstalks and the lanterns are perfect final touch. I do like the black hat the best (the other one is bit to busy).
I did have a V8 moment today. I wanted to post something for Metamorphosis Monday but I had not finished the project I wanted to post yet. But I did create our favorite fall decoration. Duh – turning the pumpkins into Henry and Hank really is a metamorphosis. So I am late to post, but so happy that I did have something I could post! Thanks again…….Candy

  58. Your front porch looks so festive and fun for Halloween! I really like the black hat. I recently cleaned and packed away some of my wicker furniture but left out one chair where our spooky scarecrow sits guard over the pumpkins and mums. Your porch is so creative!

  59. Linda Palmer says

Love your porch! I do like the black hat and it seems the natural choice with it’s orange trim, but in the end I like the black and white witch’s hat the best because it provides some “unexpected” interest. Now, I have to find some corn shocks for my porch!
