How I Remove Dirt & Scuff Marks from the Corners of My Leather Handbags & Boots

Welcome to the 593rd Metamorphosis Monday!

It has been Birthday Central here this past week. In just a 7-day period, we’ve celebrated my son’s birthday, my youngest grandson’s birthday and today is my daughter-in-law’s birthday. For this week’s Met Monday, I had hoped to share some of the decorations, including some info about how I made this balloon arch, but I couldn’t get all the pictures ready in time since the balloon arch was just completed late last night. I’ll definitely share that info in an upcoming post, along with some tips on how to make the process go quickly.

DIY Balloon Arch for Decorating Birthday

For today’s Met Monday, I’m sharing how I keep my favorite leather handbags clean and looking their best. One of my favorite bags for summer is the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis in this Cream and Rose Beige color. Love this color because of how well it works with all my spring/summer clothes.

A few days ago I was shocked to see the corners were looking really dirty. Not sure how they got this way since I’m always careful with my bags and where I set them down.

I didn’t panic, though, because I’ve had great success in the past cleaning both handbags and boots with these Weiman Leather Wipes.

You may remember this previous post where I shared how I removed an ugly jelly stain from my favorite L.L. Bean Boots with these same leather wipes. (Read that post here: Tips on Using a Sweater Shave & How I Almost Ruined my L.L. Bean Boots.)

Here’s how the corner of the bag looked after a light cleaning with one of the leather wipes.

I love these wipes and how well they work! My daughter-in-law loves them, too. She couldn’t believe the difference they made when she used them on her boots just before she put them away at the end of winter.

I also love how convenient they are in the canister form. I used one canister up over the space of a year and didn’t have any issues with them drying out. This is def one of those products I like to keep on hand at all times–can’t do without them! You’ll find them available here: Leather Wipes.

Happy Birthday to Nancy. We share a birthday. Our household is like yours-three Geminis! Hope everyone enjoys/enjoyed their celebrations.

    • I’m not sure what my oldest grandson thinks of this. He’s all alone out there with a birthday in Feb and the rest of his whole family celebrates in the same week of June. lol I wish I had a June birthday, never liked having one in January when it’s so miserably cold. Hope your birthday were/are all fabulous!

  3. Great post. Very pretty LV handbag. I’m not a big LV girl, but I do like their patent leather bags. I’ve always used a pencil eraser to remove dirt and scuffs from leather bags and shoes that are of a lighter shade. Any ideas or words of wisdom on cleaning suede?

    • I’ve also heard of using a special kind of eraser for denim transfer on bags.
Umm, I don’t own a lot of suede, only my Uggs which are sorta suede-like. I tend to shy away from it since I always end up getting it dirty.
I just did a search and this one has great reviews: https://amzn.to/30knBlJ
Lisa, if you try it and it works, please let me know. I would love to try it on a pair of my Uggs.

Morning. Like everyone else I love your informative posts and your “favorite things”. I’m wondering if you would give me some information of plank flooring. We recently experienced a flood in the front rooms of our home, two bedrooms/closet, linen closet, bath, hallway and into eating area – a toilet water value broke and went unnoticed for several hours (very late evening). Now that we must replace our rug I’m looking at plank flooring but not sure how to go about it. We have a lot of dark antique wood furniture so is a light color recommended, wide or smaller planks, smooth or textured, or do we go with just what we like. etc. We are still in the “drying out” stage and will be working with our insurance to see how we proceed. At this point and time I’m very overwhelmed. Any suggestions you may have are appreciated. Thank you so much.

You are a wonderful mother in law Susan!!

  6. Happy Birthday to everyone over there! I hope grandson #1 doesn’t feel left out! 🙂 And thanks for the great leather cleaning tip – I’m definitely going to try those wipes. Can’t wait to see how you did the balloon arch, too. Happy celebrating in the meantime!

    • I was worried about that, too. Nancy bought a few things for him so he wouldn’t feel left out. It’s got to be weird to him that his brother, mother and father all have their birthdays in one 7-day period and his birthday is months away in February. He had a blast helping his younger brother play with his new toys and they had some fun joint adventures planned by dad. To make it even more strange, my son and dil’s anniversary was just a few days before all the birthdays started happening…so there were 3 birthday celebrations and an anniversary celebration all in the space of two weeks.

  7. Thanks so much for hosting each week!! Stay safe, healthy, happy!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

Happy birthday to all! Well, your oldest grandson is a special sweetheart with his birthday in February! Eager to hear how you made the balloon arch.

  9. I’m glad you didn’t have all the pictures ready for the ballon post ; ) because I will be getting those leather wipes for sure. I can think of 3 uses immediately. Thanks so much for sharing your wealth of information. Now I can’t wait to see the balloons next week. Thnx for hosting.

    XO- MaryJo

  10. Thank you so much for hosting! This week I am excited to share my summer cottage tablescape! Hope you are staying safe and doing well!

    • Kristin, be sure and come back on Thursday to link up to the Tablescape Thursday party. That’s the perfect party for your tablescape!

  11. Thank you for this tip! I picked up a used leather bag and it has some scuffs on the bottom. Just ordered some leather wipes for it!
