In the BNOTP Library: Barclay Butera Living on the Coast

Barclay Butera is a designer I only recently discovered back in spring of last year. I immediately loved what I saw of his work and ordered the book, Living on the Coast in April 2013.

By the way, this is another one of those books where the “preview” at Amazon is misleading and doesn’t do the book justice. So many of the interiors they show are very neutral, but the book is filled with beautiful coastal homes loaded with lots of color like the one pictured on the front of the book. So if you love color, you’ll love this book.

Update: Ummm, maybe the “previews” change because the pics I’m seeing now at Amazon are of rooms with lots of color, not seeing the neutral  ones now.

Living on the Coast by Barclay Butera

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • The rooms in this book look lived in and they aren’t sparsely furnished like it’s a showhome that’s on the market and stripped of its personality. In other words, the rooms are heavily furnished and beautiful decorated with a feel that things have been “collected” over time…my fave!
  • A great mix of homes decorated with traditional “nautical” feel and rooms with a more subtle beach cottage look.
  • Unbelievable amount of inspiration packed into one book. Love Barclay Butera’s style of decorating…the rooms just feel so balanced and pulled together! Butera is a talented designer, for sure!

You can read more about this book and preview it at Amazon, where I normally buy my books, via the picture link below. Be sure and check out some of the reviews for a better feel for the book.

  1. I ordered “At Home with Carolyn Roehm” and just finished reading it. I loved her style, her “voice” AND her recipes! (Although I suspect they were the cook Nancy’s recipes.) Thanks for recommending this lovely book!

I have this book and love it! Thank you for sharing the books you own and love. I’m ordering the Decorating with White wicker cover book –based on your BNOTP recommendation!

  3. Mmmm, another coastal décor book to swoon over. I took a peek over at Amazon and like how the book is organized by styles: cottage beach, classic beach, elegant beach, etc. It may still be on the cool side here, but now I can’t wait any longer; I’m getting out my summer décor this weekend!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
