In The BNOTP Library: Mary Emmerling’s Romantic Country

Today I’m sharing another book by one of my favorite design authors, Mary Emmerling. This was a book recommended to me by a BNOTP reader last year after I featured Mary’s book about beach cottages. It’s very different from her beach cottage book and a great addition to my decor library.

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed this book and after flipping through it again today, I want to hop up and go do to my rooms, some of the lovely things I saw inside. It’s that kind of book, the kind that puts your head spinning with wonderful ideas. All the decorating ideas shared in this book are doable, nothing out of reach, super expensive or complicated. The photography is lovely and feels real, not plastic like in some books where the pictures have been photoshopped to death.
  • Though my first love will always be English Country, I love a little shabby chic or country style, too. My guest room, upstairs family room and porch are spaces where I can mix in a little country or rustic. This book is filled with lots of romantic touches, but doesn’t go overboard like you sometimes see in a lot Victorian design magazines. I love the mix of white furnishings, candles, silver, ironstone and romantic fabrics seen in the rooms featured throughout this book. There are some great collections on display, so this may not be the ideal book for the minimalist.
  • The author includes a list of shops at the end of the book, alphabetized by states. This is an older book so not sure how many are still open, but I like that she included the list. This is also another one of the many books that can be purchased “Used” for just a penny + shipping on Amazon. Love that!

Hi, I’m a new subscriber to your website, so if you have answered this question before please forgive me. I am absolutely in love with the face image teapot that you featured in your post Mary Emmerling Romantic Country:Style that is Straight from the Heart. Who is the manufacturer and where did you purchase it. Are they still available?

    • Hi Sara, I found the teapot while antiquing in A Classy Flea in Georgia. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a hallmark or any markings of any type. Sorry I don’t have more info on it.

Thanks so much for your quick response. I’ll just have to scour the earth now for one that is similar. LOL. I love quests. My friend, who lives in Kennesaw, and I are always treasure hunting. Next time when I’m down visiting her we’ll have to go to Marietta and visit A Classy Flea, although we probably have been there on one of our adventures.
