Nautical-Themed Table Setting with Patriotic Vibes

Welcome to the 668th Tablescape Thursday, a blog party sharing beautiful table settings for all occasions!

Yesterday was super busy so by the time I was able to set a table for this week, it was already late evening. When I started taking photos, I was happy to see the Blue Hour had arrived. Do you see it there peeking through the treetops? (Read more about the Blue Hour in this previous post: The Secret of the Blue Hour.)

I’m sharing this table in reverse, starting with photos taken late last night and ending with those taken early this morning. I turned off all the lights on the porch for this picture. I also forgot to light one of the little star candles on the table. Drat! lol I always notice these things after I start taking photos. That little light did eventually get lit.

Turned on a couple of lights for this picture.

A view from overhead…

I know the 4th of July has passed, but I’m still feeling patriotic these days, so I decided to mix this beach-themed table with a patriotic vibe.

You can’t see it in this picture, but there’s a beautiful American flag flying proudly on the salad plates which helps tie them back nicely to the flag dinner plates. It will be visible in the daytime photos, so watch for it there.

A few photos from this morning…

I think I found this lantern in Marshalls one summer…been so long, hard to remember. It always makes me think of a lighthouse so it works great with the salad plates in this patriotic, nautical-themed tablescape.

The salad plates are by Warren Kimble from 1998 and the pattern is Coastal Breeze. I love that name! Those were a find on eBay many years ago. The blue wine glasses are from Dollar Tree several years back.

Now you can see our star-spangled banner majestically flying atop the light-keeper’s house. Love that!

The driftwood chargers were from Pier 1 a few years back. I purchased a set for my son and dil during a visit one summer and I liked them so much, I bought a set for myself once I was back home. The dinner plate is another design by Warren Kimble from 1997 and the pattern is called, Colonial.

I wanted to keep the feel of this table very casual so went with my DIY denim napkin rings made from recycled jeans. (Find that no-sew, tutorial here: Make Napkin Rings from Old Denim Jeans.) Star covered napkins were from Pottery Barn a few years back. Can’t remember where I found the red and white napkins–probably Pier 1.

Some of the jeans had a decorative waistband (did you have jeans like that back in the day?) which enhanced the napkin rings a bit more. The cobalt/royal blue flatware is Cambridge Silversmith Neapolitan flatware. I couldn’t find it online–seems to be out of stock in most places.

A little candlelight early this morning…and I actually remembered to light all the candles this time. lol

Simple and yet enough pizazz to elevate a meal. Those charges are fabulous. Thanks for today’s patriotic theme valid year round.

  2. franki Parde says

Right down my alley as “they say!” I use the Kimble (what few I have) all the time when eating at the boathouse! Salute your tablescape!! franki

  3. Perfect summer table Susan, I love all the red white and blue, and of course candlelight makes it extra special!

  4. So perfectly beachy Susan! Love the driftwood chargers, and your blue hour photos are gorgeous! Thanks for all the continued inspiration, and, of course, for hosting. Hope you’re having a lovely week!

    • Thanks so much, Barbara! The trees have grown so high in the backyard now, it’s hard to catch the Blue Hour in photos these days. Hope you have an awesome weekend!

  5. Susan, you’re so funny. I feel bad for you when that happens (when you notice something in the pictures that you missed while working.) I know how much time and care you put into these tablescapes and I can relate to how frustrated you must feel when you miss something. Luckily (I think I can speak for most everybody) we don’t mind! Lol. (Some of us wonder if you’re even human, with all that energy you have!) This type of thing reminds us that you are.

A combo beach and patriotic theme seems like a natural. Hope you have a great weekend. I’m currently embroiled in a furniture painting project I wish I’d never begun!! Pray for me. :o)

    • Arrrgggh! lol I know! It was too late to take some of those photos all over again, plus the Blue Hour was probably gone by the time I noticed. So I just went with it. lol I’m definitely human! I’m always doing something goofy around here! Honestly, I need a keeper! 😉
Whatcha painting? Painting furniture if not one of my favorite things to do. Painting anything is a challenge since I’m too much of a perfectionist and want every brush struck to be invisible…which never happens when I’m painting!

  6. Yea! We need more red white and blue tables 🙂

  7. I have so much respect for your commitment to patriotism! Lovely, relaxed and special table, especially as dusk was falling, Susan!

  8. Susan, I love your summery, patriotic tablescape! You are definitely an artist with tablescapes! I like it that you are not afraid to “get off the beaten path” when you are choosing the different elements. The result, when you assemble everything, looks so unique and amazing! I always get great ideas from you… thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks so much, Dianne! I started out with a whole different concept using colorful Adirondack chairs purchased on Etsy last year…or maybe it was the year before. I couldn’t get them to work since they are all different colors, so went a totally different direction. I’m determined to get those chairs to work in a table before summer is gone! lol
Hope you have an awesome weekend!

  9. Susan, this is such a pretty patriotic summer table! I especially love your Blue Hour photos. I also noticed a couple of pieces of Ma Maison in the background of your table LOL! As you know, I fell madly in love with Ma Maison the first time I saw it on BNOTP. Thanks for another lovely Tablescape Thursday. XO

    • Thanks so much, Elena! Oh, good eye! Yeah, I bought a couple of those larger plates/platters back when I purchased the china. I think that plate you saw may be the same size as the ones you use as chargers. I never thought to use them that way but I love that idea. I only have two…one to display on the porch and one I display on the kitchen counter during the summer months. I’m always worried I’ll break one since they are so dang hard to find.

  10. I think this is my most favorite table setting Susan! I love everything about it. It’s just so patriotic, but yet beachy, all American! Like you can visualize being in a quaint little beach town for the 4th of July. Hugs, Brenda

    • Thanks so much, Brenda! I don’t know why I see beachy and patriotic going together, but I love that combo. So glad you like it, Brenda! I love the idea of a little beach town for the 4th of July. ♥

  11. Susan, I love your beach/patriotic table! You have such a knack for mixing plates that always turns out to be gorgeous. I can totally relate to those “missed something” photos – it happens to me all the time – and I usually discover it after the table has been dismantled lol!

    • Oh, yes! I’ve done that so many times! Once I took all my photos and hours later realized I never put the glasses on the table! How does one do that???!!! lol Some days I worry about me! Glad to hear I’m not alone, Kim!

  12. Kathleen says

Love red, white and blue. The blue glasses are so pretty. I just picked up high ball glasses at the Dollar Tree. They are made in Columbia of all places, have just a hint of color at the base and are very sturdy.

    • Don’t you love all the little surprises you can find in that store! I love popping in to check out their glassware because they always have unique pieces/patterns. I’ll have to go by to check out the highball glasses! Thanks, Kathleen!

  13. Martha Karen Lovell says

Enjoyed this tablescape. I need more red in mine. Maybe finding those Colonial plates might help! Thank you for sharing.

  14. Thanks, Martha! Hope you can find some…several companies I think have made these flag plates in the past. They def pop up on eBay occasionally but I’ve seen them on Amazon in the past.
    Have a wonderful weekend, Martha!

  15. Cyndi Raines says

Love this tablescape as it covers two of my favorites: a patriotic tablescape and a beach setting which is always a winner and my happy place. Tomorrow I am headed for an afternoon at the beach and then was considering removing the patriotic tablescape for a beach setting, so this is so timely! Never thought about combining the two, may have to try it out. Thanks Susan!
