Navy and White: Great for a Nautical Themed Table Setting

Welcome to the 241st Tablescape Thursday!

Spring is here  and I couldn’t wait to experiment with a summer-beach themed table setting here on the porch.

Nautical Beach Table Setting in Blue and White

I love a blue and white themed tablescape.  They always feel so crisp, so fresh.

Blue and White Beach Coastal Themed Table Setting

This was an inexpensive table setting to create.  The dishes are from a 6 place setting I’ve had for a few years.  The set was only $19.99 at Big Lots and the glasses were just $1 each from the dollar store.

Blue and White Table With Check Place Card Holders and Napkins

The lantern was an inexpensive find a few years ago in Old Time Pottery.

I was in the mood for a table with a crisp, clean feel, so I kept the centerpiece really simple.  Color kept trying to sneak its way into the table but I kept resisting, sticking to my original idea of keeping the setting really simple and in the color scheme of blue and white.

The navy and white check napkins are from HomeGoods several months ago. Flatware is by Hampton Forge and it’s available here: Hampton Forge Argent Sophia

For this tablescape, I skipped the napkin rings in favor of a single, white starfish.

Blue and White Nautical Beach Tablescape

The navy and white check place cards were a lucky find several years ago, but this is the first time I’ve used them in a table setting.  I had been hoping to use them before now but never could work them into a tablescape until I found the blue and white check napkins a few months ago.

The place cards were originally priced at $15.00 for a set of 4.  The “sale price” was $9.99 and that was further reduced to $4.99 for the set of four.  Not bad, right?  Four fabric place cards for only $4.99.  But wait, it gets better.  There were two more discount stickers on each set.  One sticker showed them at $2.49 and the final sticker on top discounted them down to $1.99!  Awesome!  That’s what I paid for a set of four.  So, in the end, I purchased all 8 place card holders for a total of $3.98 + tax.  Hard to believe 8 would have originally cost $30!  I definitely would not have paid that, but I couldn’t pass up 8 for $3.98.

Blue and White Nautical Beach Tablescape

Found the fish pitchers in Marshalls 2-3 months ago.  They will be fun for serving cold beverages this summer.

Love this time of year when the trees are dressed in their spring green foliage.

  1. My favorite part(s) are the gingham napkins and little gingham frames for place cards. I love that. Blue and white are a favorite table combination of mine.

  2. LOVE this. So pretty…makes me ready to go back to the beach!! 🙂

  3. Susan, you are so right! Blue and white tablescapes are perfect for the beach. Love all your bargains – those fabric place cards are adorable. However, I am wild about those fish pitchers – oh my!!

    • Diane, I loved pitchers, too. One of the things I love about Marshall’s is how they carry the cutest items and they are so inexpensive. I sound like an ad for them, but it is one of my fave stores! I forgot to mention, but the fish pitchers were only $9.99 each. I bought them a few months ago but you may still find one in a Marshall’s or TJ Max.

  4. I love the crisp and clean look of a blue and white table. All of your elements are just perfect Susan and it’s hard to say which one I like best but I am leaning toward those adorable blue and white check place cards! Thank you for hosting Susan and I hope that you are feeling great these days.

    Big Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  5. Your table is just beautiful, Susan! The perfect amount of blue mixed in with the white! It’s very crisp and fresh, just like you had wanted it! =) Thanks for hosting this great party! Have a great week! =)

  6. I love your blue and white table. It is so crisp and fresh and those fish pitchers…so cute.

  7. Susan,
Simplistic elegance at its finest in a nautical blue and white palette!
    Those fish pitchers are splendid!!!
What a great find on your placecard holders!!!
    Thanks for hosting Tabletop Thursday!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  8. Hi Susan, I love your blue and white table, the fish pitchers are adorable as well as the fabric place card holders. Thanks so much for hosting each week. fondly ~lynne~

Your table settings are always so beautiful. I will have to copy this one! I just purchased that very same lantern at TJMAXX! its on my mantel right now. Have a wonderful day!

  10. I’m going to keep this in mind for Memorial Day—maybe add some red flowers. Love the place card frames.

  11. Yes Susan, you definitely created a crisp, clean look! That’s exactly what I thought before I read your words! You are also the Queen of Bargains! Very savvy shopping, your table is perfect for summer,
    Jenna

  12. Navy and white is my absolutely favorite color scheme and you did it so perfectly perfect! Still cold up North so this makes me want for summer that much more. Love the nautical touches. Gorgeous!

  13. Peggy Thal says

The table looks so lovely and inviting. I love blue it always looks clean and cool for the summer. They say if you eat your food off of a blue plate you will eat less !

  14. Hi Susan! Thank you for hosting and sharing your lovely porch. Do you mind if I ask where you got your curtain rods and panels? Thanks!

    • Hi Ann, I found the sheers and the rods in Wal-mart about 5 years ago. All the sheers and the rods together for the whole porch were only around $100 and they still look great 5 years later, so definitely would recommend them. The sheers were packaged individually for $4.99 each in their curtain dept. The rods are wood or something like wood. I didn’t go with metal, was afraid it would rust. Hope that helps.
      XO

  15. Lovely, and hopefully this means you are almost back to full steam! Hope so….. because as much as you disclaimed how easy this was, I noticed that your wicker table nearby had been redressed so as not to compete with colors, and that took some thought and time also. You are a stickler for detail which makes your photos sooooo special. Happy to see this tablescape. Thank you.

    • Awww, thanks Vicki! I did remove the plate that’s normally there…just ready for a little change in that area. Those seat cushions do compete (so don’t look at those) lol but they still look great so not ready to change them just yet. 🙂

  16. ~Susan~
Hope all is well with you !
Your table setting is so pretty. Is the big white plate a charger?
Looking forward to warmer weather!! It snowed alittle here yesterday, grrrr.
    Have a wonderful day,
    Paula
    In.

  17. I love your simple navy and white table setting especially because I have all the elements to re-create it. No placecards though.
    Cheers! Rita

  18. Susan, I just love seeing your table settings on your porch. I’m so glad that you’ll be sharing it more often now that the weather is better. This nautical theme is so perfect for “almost” alfresco dining. I love those place cards, and what a deal! Thank you for hosting. laurie

  19. Love the blend of the blue and white and the gingham accents. What a beautiful setting you have created. Visiting from Katherine’s Corner. Happy Thursday!

  20. I love that the designs of the pieces stand out more (especially those fish pitchers) because color was used sparingly and evenly throughout. I know from experience that it’s harder to have restraint than it is to let the “rainbow monster” take over the color scheme! Great job again Susan! PS: Would you mind sharing two things? 1. How many dish sets do you own and 2. Where do you keep them all!

  21. charlottem34 says

My favorite – Navy and White.
    Thank you so much.
    Charlotte

  22. Lovely Susan! Very clean and cool feel. I really like the starfish adornment as well. I just love your porch and I always admire your Summer Breeze sign. Really sets the mood. Good thoughts to you and Max!

    Abby

  23. I do love the clean feel. I really like the color of the stemware.

  24. I applaud your place card holder find!!! What a great bargain! It just makes me wonder sometimes WHY on earth people mark stuff up that doggone high to begin with?!?!?!!

I hope you are feeling 100% better now so that you can fully enjoy the beautiful Spring that has FINALLY come a’knockin’.

  25. I love blue and white too, Susan. This is such a refreshing tablecape…Christine

  26. pam ~ Crumpety Cottage says

Hi Susan, what a pretty table scape! Thanks for creating and sharing it. You definitely inspire me to ‘step it up a notch.’

I too love the color scheme! White and … just about anything is so pretty, isn’t it? Especially in beautiful Spring. I love the white and blue, but also love white and purple, white and green, white and … everything, lol. Like you said, so fresh and crisp. And your little place card holders are adorable. They look like mini picture frames, lol. Love the lantern, love it all. You know me, I’m a check girl too. I have an inexplicable connection to Buffalo check fabrics, in particular. But anyway, I was thinking how you said you hadn’t used the place cards until you found the checked napkins. I think the place cards would look great with a blue and white patterned or blue and white floral napkin as well! Just sayin’, lol.

Maybe I just haven’t seen enough of the site yet, but do you ever address where you store all of your beautiful items when they’re not in use? Or maybe you actually do have them in use in different places around the house and just gather them as you need them for the tablescapes? I ask because you (and Marie too) certainly come up with some gorgeous decorating ideas and I just wonder where you keep your stuff? lol. Maybe you just have huge houses and plenty of storage! It would be so much fun to have a big room (like that one woman who has the huge dish closet … is it Bonnie?) where you go and everything you love is just neatly laid out — you just grab it and go. *Sigh* What fun.

  27. Perfect! I love those placecard holders, just adorable. So nice to see you back on the porch again!
Hope you are taking care of yourself and feeling better.
Thanks for sharing this crisp table!

  28. So relaxing…your blue & white…LOVE the summer breeze sign…I fell for the shabby look sometime ago now…since I love the look of the homes and gardens on Nantucket…I’ve dubbed my look…Shabby washes over Nantucket…I seen an episode of This Old House many yrs ago…they were on Nantucket..the owner and architect walked around looking for inspiration…I got plenty myself that day…one house had climbing roses going across the roof..just BeautiFul…Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend..by guys…I mean You & Max…….

  29. There are leaves on your trees!!! What a wonderful sight!!
Your table is refreshing and bright……….great find on the little place card holders!!!

  30. Love the blue and white! So clean and crisp and perfect for a bright Spring day! Thanks for hosting. Hope you and Max are doing well.

    Linda

  31. Your porch is always a delight and never fails to make me go, “Oohh! That is so cute” 🙂

  32. Love the tablescape; blue and white is so fresh and crisp. Now let’s see, I’ll start with a cup of lobster bisque, and then I’ll have the shrimp scampi. Oh, and for dessert, bring me the Lemon Chiffon Pie and a cup of Lady Grey tea, please.

  33. Oh Susan, I too love blue and white- so crisp and so perfect for a beach theme.
LOVE it ! Thank you for hosting!

  34. Sandi Lee says

Makes me want to jump in the car and head for the beach today! I love blue and white-so clean and cool feeling! Glad you are getting back to your creative self and hope Max is as well.

  35. Hey Susan,
Love your blue and white nautical table. The fish pitchers are perfect and I’m a sucker for the blue and white check in your napkins and place card holders. I have the same blue stemware from dollar store. I picked them up last Christmas to use with my Royal Dalton China on the table I was doing for the ladies Christmas Tea at church. 🙂 I got lots of compliments and everyone was surprised when I told them where I bought them. Has it warmed up for you yet. We are having another cold spell here in SE Virginia…guess we will go from winter to summer and just skip spring this year. Take care…Vikki in Virginia

  36. This is so beautiful and clean. I started to say with just the two colors, but with the trees all bloomed out they became part of the decoration.

  37. Hola, I just find your website, long time ago I had one of your pictures with your table setting but I didnt know who belong this gorgeous picture ( the one with the green house with the flowers. You are really gift, thanks for sharing.

  38. Hi Susan,
So nice to see you back. Hope everything is fine with you and Max now. Keep chillaxing and enjoy.
    As beauty as ever.
    God Bless you always.

    P.S.
BTW, did you read my msg awhile ago? Remember you like the round boxes I had during St. Patrick’s Day? I would love to give you the 4pcs I have. I am pretty sure that you will love them and they are in a safe hands. Let me know, so I can send you that.
Email me at [email protected] (job mail) or to [email protected]

  39. Your table is so beautiful and makes me so ready for summer (although I think I’ve been ready for warmer weather for some time now)! But this really gets me excited to entertain. I think my favorite parts are the checkered place holders. I’ve never seen anything like that before, and for that price, how could you resist?

  40. I love your table. I think I am the only one in blogland that doesn’t have some of those DT goblets..were they from long ago? I haven’t been able to find them…I appreciate your hosting this wonderful party….
    Love, Mona

  41. Love your blue and white clean crisp tablescape. The checked napkins and starfish are perfect along with your great fish pitcher and lantern. What cute little framed place cards and what a bargain.

Blue and white are my all time favorites.
Hope you are back to normal now. What a scare.

  42. Love the crisp blue and white, so refreshing on a spring day! The little gingham frames are adorable for place cards.

Hi; I just listened to the wonderful broadcast on the internet radio show. It was great and I am so happy to have heard your voice now I have something added when I see your photo. I find blogs to be like a treasure hunt, especially when you want to know more about the blogger. I LOVE mysteries so this is understandable to me. The Blue & White table setting is one I would like to sit at. I put the large photo on my Pinterest board about six months ago and have had many likes and pins. I thank you for sharing!
