Seaside-Themed Table Setting–Elegant Sophistication with a Casual Vibe

Welcome to the 723rd Tablescape Thursday!

How is your week going? Are you staying inside out of the heat? Things have gotten pretty busy here the last few days. I just returned from visiting family on Tuesday and on Wednesday afternoon the first phase of installing the garage floor took place. The final part of the process will be completed today. I’ve taken a few photos and look forward to sharing those and how the floor looks real soon.

Granite Garage Floors, Garage Floor Makeover

While I was out of town, I received a lovely email from Toni who had just hosted a special luncheon for a good friend. Toni’s friend really loves the ocean life so Toni decided to create a pretty seaside-themed tablescape. She decorated the hutch in her dining room for this fun gathering. Toni said, “I’ve hand-picked up every shell you see….from beaches around the world, the sea glass as well–kind of my favorite souvenir from a trip, if possible. I’ve purchased just a few like the large white skinny sea stars.”

Beach House Style

Soo many pretty shells and I love the beautiful blue sea glass Toni has collected over the years! Sea glass really feels like finding treasure when you come across it, doesn’t it?

Decorating with Shells

Toni drew her inspiration for her table setting from her friend’s love of neutrals. Toni said, “My friend loves neutrals so I wanted to keep the table more neutral. I used a painter’s cloth for the tablecloth because of its more rustic feel.” I love that idea! The dropcloth tablecloth makes me think of a sandy beach, the perfect backdrop for a seaside-themed table!

Toni said, “I found the fish net and the place card holders at a garage sale. I collected all the shells and sea glass, a friend made the cute white chocolate anchors for favors.” Love the little shell name card holders!

Soft Neutral Color for a Beachy, Nautical Table Setting

Toni shared more details saying, “The dishes are Mikasa Italian Countryside. The napkins and shell napkin rings are from Homegoods. My silver is Roger’s International Silver Lace (wedding silver) and my water goblets were Gorham Reizart, First Lady.” I love the mix and contrast of the more casual elements (painter’s cloth tablecloth and fishnet, shell centerpiece) paired with the elegant dinnerware and crystal. The contrast adds that air of excitement and awakens the senses! So beautiful!

About the centerpiece, Toni shared, “The antique bottles and floats, I’ve found here and there. My candle holders were from Homegoods as well.  The silver and crystal are from my wedding almost 50 years ago!” I love the pretty sea glass Toni has collected from her various beach trips over the years. It’s those personal touches that really add so much to a beautiful table.

The lovely friend who made the white chocolate anchors seen at each place setting, also made the party favors pictured below. Toni said, “The cute little “matchbox” type packages contained another chocolate. The same friend made all the favors, including the white chocolate anchors at the table.” Ohhh, I would love to bite into one of those luscious, white shells right now!

Party Favors for Special Beach-Themed Dinner

I love how this ocean-themed table setting with its neutral color scheme is elegant and sophisticated but still maintains a relaxed, casual feel. What a fun summer gathering of great friends!

  1. Very pretty! Toni’s table has a very tranquil feeling. Everything goes together so well. I love color, but I have to say that Toni’s neutral tablescape is beautiful. It definitely has that relaxed, beachy vibe. And I love the vessels she used to display the shells. Really, everything is so pretty. I love the plates and I love those goblets. Your friend must have felt very special, Toni. Thanks for sharing your tablescape with us.

Glad you’re home safe and sound, Susan! Can’t wait to see the garage reveal. 😀

My outdoor lights which I purchased on your recommendation are really lovely. We moved them from the sidewalk leading up to the porch to the azalea beds on eithside of the walk. The greenery softens the look of the lights and are quite lovely at night. So glad you posted about them.

    • That sounds beautiful! I think I may buy a few more and place them in other areas, too. I’m so glad they are working great in your landscape, Gayle!

  3. Lovely, soooo wonderful how the soft colors just blend and make this tablescape so “see-worthy’! 🙂 I always do goodie bags too… giving guests a treat to take home always brings a smile. LOVE the chocolate goodies here….bet the lunch was a great success.

  4. Toni, such a lovely theme table, and I sooo love themes! You styled it beautifully. How lucky your friend is! Thanks for sharing with Susan and us.
