So Close Now–Almost Done!

Welcome to the 747th Metamorphosis Monday! The basement storage room is so close to being finished now. When I last shared this space, this is how it looked.

Here’s a quick update on where things are as of this morning. Baseboard was installed and the walls and baseboard have been painted. I went with Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace for the walls and the trim–semi-gloss for the trim and eggshell for the walls. Chantilly Lace is a bright white with an LRV of 92.2. It’s the same color I chose for the trim on the finished side of the basement. The painter will finish today, just have the window and door trim left to go.

Terrace Level Room During Makeover

A new cabinet was delivered on Friday and I managed to put this one together without any major calamity. lol All went well this time around–thank goodness! I still need to purchase/assemble one more.

Late last night, I added the doors to one of the cabinets. The doors are super heavy and a pain in the you-know-what to attach, so I have to psyche myself up to add those.

Basement Storage, Room Makeover in Progress

When I moved the cabinets back into the room yesterday, I positioned them so that if I ever need to, I can easily add a couple more along that wall. I doubt I’ll ever need five cabinets, but you never know.

I hope to add a door to the storage room at the very end sometime soon. The ceiling will remain open since so much of the plumbing and HVAC is on this side. Plus, this is just a storage area so I don’t mind having it open. I’ve thought about having it all painted white, but doubt I’ll ever do that since I would worry about it flaking off the ductwork.

We’ve come a long way since the unfinished part of the basement looked like this, haven’t we? It’s funny how the brain works because this seems like a million years ago. I barely can remember it looking like this now. Crazy!

I’m looking forward to getting the freezer moved back in, along with my workbench which I have plans to paint. That will be an interesting project! Thanks so much for coming along on this storage room/workroom renovation! Looking forward to all the great Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday!

  1. Thank you for hosting, Susan! Your storage area is coming along nicely! Enjoy your week. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  2. Wow, it really does look great! Thanks Susan~

  3. Things look great Susan, You’re a pro at those cabinets now!! Have a great week!

You wouldn’t need to paint the ductwork, just the rafters. As a matter of fact, you need to do that to make the area cohesive.

    • When I did a search online to read more about the process, I found that most people spray the ceilings since it would take a lot of time and work to paint all those floor joists, wiring, plumbing, etc…, so I will never do it. But I do think it would look great done that way.

  5. That was a big project to complete. Very rewarding I’m sure! Looks great!

  6. Wow, I love this, I REALLY wish I had one like this. For a large house we have limited storage. (Not because I have collected too much stuff, of course) Who does that? Great job.

  7. Looking good! Thanks for sharing it – it’s so fun to follow along. And thanks for hosting the party. Happy Monday!

  8. Oh, Susan, you have outdone yourself!! I know you’ve worked extremely hard, but please be assured all your tremendous efforts have most certainly paid off. Your storage space is WONDERFUL!! It’s attractive and functional. You are a force of nature, for sure. You should be so proud of yourself. If I were you, I’d be going downstairs every few hours just to admire the fruits of my labor!! Bravo!

Your storage room looks great! Thank you for sharing the slim table yesterday. I’m hoping to downsize later this year and would get it for my living room.

  10. Allen Valerie says

Wow; Susan! Your new storage room looks great! I love following your posts; you brighten my day!

  11. Tina W Reynolds says

What a wonderful project. All of this work is a definite asset for your home and will serve you so well. That is the most important thing, having our homes set up to be useful, functional and pleasant for us. Sounds simple, but needs change over time and our wishes become more defined! I see the end of the work part of your project and the beginning of enjoying the area and having it work for you.

  12. Susan, you have done a great job in what seems like a short time. We really appreciate you showing us every detail if a ‘before and after’ project. Lot of labor intense work and expense. Electricians aren’t cheap. Sometimes I worry you overdo it- like lifting those cabinets and putting the doors on. I hope everyone appreciates this isn’t an entertainment show with lots of stage hands. Maybe a mini vacation is due ?
BTW Did the dress arrive ?

    • Yeah, you’re not kidding! Electrical work is always so expensive, understandably I guess since it’s kinda dangerous. lol It definitely makes a huge difference in how a room looks, though. The dress did arrive and I was dissappointed by the color. I like the dress itself a lot, but instead of being the pink that it appeared online, or at least on my monitor, it was a faded Nantucket Red. Not sure if you’re familiar with that color. I like that color, I think it’s a popular color in the northeast, but it’s not I wanted for a beautiful, floral maxi dress. So I ended up returning it in person at my local store. I’m back on the hunt for a cotton linen maxi dress again.

  13. Teresa M. says

Looks fantastic. What a beautiful space. You are so organized.

  14. Teresa Pasquariello says

Susan, your project is looking great! Definitely an improvement! You really have a lot of space for things. Love your news, I’m still emptying cupboards. I did purchase a few of the storage bins for our glasses and mugs, I didn’t want to wrap in newspaper and chance them getting broken. but the bins are nice from Wayfair in case you are looking for your many dishes and glassware.

  15. If one had not seen the before photo’s, one might not believe the difference! This area is like night and day! So beautiful, so light, bright and airy that you feel like there is no way it could be the same space….but it is! The flooring looks just as it should now too. A delightful storage space now and is totally so you. I love it! Hugs, Brenda

  16. Cynthia Blaylock says

What a nice, bright, clean storage space! It looks terrific!

  17. This is a space I could walk into without fear! So bright and clean. And serves to inspire others with all or any of the steps to get there. The floor treatment alone could work in so many places.

  18. I agree with what you said about our brains. I ‘remember’ the before, and yet I didn’t remember it being so dark and dreary looking. What a difference! What a GREAT difference. Such a nice, friendly space now. Less like a ‘cellar’ and more like just another storage space off a garage. Looks great, Susan. I’m so happy for you.
