Renovating on a Miniature Scale

Welcome to the 59th Metamorphosis Monday!

Metamorphosis Monday:
I know you’re going to be shocked, but I’ve been thinking about moving. Yes, you read that right.  Your eyes have not deceived you. You see, I found this old house and you know how I love old homes. It’s a great house, just a bit smaller than my current home. Problem is, it’s a real fixer-upper. we’re talking fodder for Met Monday posts from here to Christmas.

I’ve taken some “Before” pics of the house to share–don’t have any “Afters,” just yet, since it will be a work in progress for quite a while. Come on in and I’ll show you all the work that needs to be done.

Starting here at the front door, take a look here at this hole. Not sure what used to be there…maybe a doorbell? A welcome sign?

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Here’s the living room, I will definitely need to do some repair work and caulking in some areas.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

The hardwoods floors will need work…they are popping up in places.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

There’s a piece of window trim missing off a window–now, how does that happen?  Ummm

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Not sure what this wall surface is.  I might leave it since it reminds me a little of grass cloth. But that baseboard trim has got to be fixed.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

You can see it was around Christmas when I took pics in the house. This is the kitchen.  I like the window seat in the bay window.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

The parquet flooring in the kitchen is definitely outdated, but it gives the house a bit of a vintage feel. I think I may leave it.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Kitchen wallpaper definitely has to go.  You can see it’s damaged.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

I think the whole kitchen will need to be renovated.  I’m picturing a sunny kitchen with white cabinetry.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Let’s head upstairs and I’ll show you around the bedrooms. Looks like the crown molding is coming down in the Master Bedroom.  You know how these older homes can be. They left the curtains behind in this room. I’ll probably leave them for now.  I can always change them out later.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

I like the wainscotting.  That will definitely be staying.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Wallpaper is kind of cute–yellow irises and butterflies. I’ve sort of missed having a bedroom with wallpaper in my current home, so I’d probably leave it if it were in better condition. Unfortunately, it’s stained, so it will need to go.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

They left the curtain rods. Not sure I’ll keep them, though.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Let’s take a look in another bedroom. The pink gingham curtains make me think this room may have been a nursery. More hardwood floor issues to fix.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

It has an attic.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

And, the attic has two really cute dormer windows with plantation shutters. Well, as you can see it’s definitely a fixer-upper. Oh,  I forgot to show you the exterior of the home.

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Here it is! As you can see, it’s the only house around for miles, so, it’s a really quiet neighborhood.  I’ll keep you posted on the renovations. 😉

Dollhouse Renovation Plans

Looking forward to your “Before and Afters!”

I totally thought that was a real house from looking at the first few pictures and I thought to myself….wow that's a fixer-upper. And, how on earth could someone leave that many cracks in the woodworking! It wasn't until I saw the curtain rods that I realized, um, that's a dollhouse! Good one!

  40. I think that I posted mine in last weeks Monday. Sorry about that.

  41. Lara Harris says

It reminds me of the little dollhouse we had when I was little…I was devastated when I found out my father had thrown it away :o(

OMG, you had me going. I could not BELIEVE you would be moving there, no matter what the renovations were! I just couldn't imagine why you would trade down for that. Especially that you were considering keeping the curtain rod that looks like a toilet plunger. I thought you had had one too many glasses of wine! LOL! Whew! I'm relieved. You haven't lost it, after all! 🙂 Can't wait to see what you do for April Fool's Day!

  54. Patriotic Mom says

Susan, you're going to have to get pretty small to live in that house. Hope you find a white rabbit! he-he Cute post and I thought it was real and something must have happened for you to leave your lovely home. I was getting sicker by the minute until the end. You are a very bad girl to do that to us! At least the repair costs shouldn't be bad on this fixer upper, Joan

  55. Great post…you had me at first, but seeing the curtains clued me in!

  56. Susan? said in a "motherly" voice, lol you had me going girl. 🙂 too funny. If I only knew how to add my redoing of things (like my entire living room ) right now I would add to your Monday thing. No, the instructions didn't help (sorry) do I need a widget, gadget? Mr. Linky, actually I have it on my blog and don't have any idea of what to do with him, so I just leave him alone and he doesn't bother me, so… actually I would really love to do the Monday thing, can you help??? Thanks girlfriend.

    Love it!

  82. Now Susan … I believe you've mentioned once or twice that you might like to downsize someday, but THIS house might be just a WEE bit too small!

You and Mr. Max would need one of those machines like the one used in the film, "Honey I Shrunk the Kids!" And where would you put all your dishes??? And your linens … and your … oh well … this just won't do!

    Fun post, Susan! 😉

  86. Well, you had me fooled….I thought that those curtains were kind of weird and your comments were a little surprising, but then when I saw the exterior, I was OH SHE's Pulled one over on me!!
I thought that our little courtyard renovation was a lot of work, but it looked like you had a MAJOR project on your hands.

  94. Michael Lee West says

At first, I BELIEVED you. LOL At first I was so excited for you even though I dearly love your house and feel like I "know" the rooms and decor like a best friend…but a vintage house can be so exciting…but the absent trim and the floors…then I gradually realized it was your doll house. Huge LOL
    This was so much fun!

  95. sweet european dreams says

Great post! I was actually drooling over the gingham curtains and couldn't believe that someone left them behind! You have a wonderful blog – I'm following!
