Seaside Dreaming for Tablescape Thursday

Welcome to the 674th Tablescape Thursday!

It’s a dreary day out so I decided to set this table in the breakfast room this week. If we get some sunshine today, I’ll take a few pics in natural lighting which is always so much nicer and prettier.

Tablescape Thursday, Beach Themed Table Setting

With summer slowly coming to an end, I was in the mood for a beach/nautical/seaside-themed table setting.

Lobster Plate in Seaside Beach Table Setting

I brought out the shell chargers I made several years back along with these fun lobster and crab salad plates.

Crab Salad Plates

If you would like to make your own shell charger plates, you’ll find a pretty detailed tutorial here: DIY Shell Charger Plates.

I made six more shell chargers a few years later incorporating in some blue “seaglass” I purchased in Marshalls.

The lobster and crab salad plates were a find many years ago in World Market.

Lobster Plates and Fish Flatware

Not sure if you recognize the plaid napkins–they are the ones I purchased recently during a shopping trip to HomeGoods. I paired them with simple “sand” colored napkins found in Pier 1 many years ago. Starfish napkin rings were an Etsy purchase from THIS shop a few years back. The shark flatware is no longer available, I think I found it on Amazon but it’s been so long, I’m not sure now.

Here’s a close up from a previous table setting. Update: It was available on Amazon here: Shark Flatware.

Love these adorable crab placecard holders!

They were a Pottery Barn find HERE a few summers back.

For my centerpiece, I’m using the tiered server I shared in my recent HomeGoods shopping haul. You guys really like this server and so did I!

I love it filled with shells–some store-bought and many collected on Captiva and Sanibel Islands during a trip there many, many years ago.

If Mr. Sun makes an appearance today, I’ll add some sunshine pictures to this post later in the day. Hope you are having a great week and seeing lots of sunshine this beautiful August day!

Update: Here are a few photos taken in natural lighting which I much prefer.

  1. Your new napkins are perfect with the lobster/crab plates, just enough color when paired with the “sand” toned ones. And I love the tiered tray filled with shells. That’s the one I would have kept, and if I can get to a Home Goods and they have them here, that’s the one I’ll get. I like the turned up edges to corral whatever is in the trays. I’m seaside dreaming, too – not going to get there in person this year.

    • Thanks so much! Hope you are able to find one, Joy! I know, me neither and I could really use a walk right now down a sandy beach and feel those ocean breezes.

  2. I love the fish flatware, how cute! Did you glue the bird to the top of your server? Very fun and cute summer table, thanks Susan!

    • Thanks, Jenna! No, he’s just a shorebird I picked up somewhere–can’t remember where now, probably Marshalls–and he’s just sitting on the top. 🙂

  3. Very adorable! You are so creative and talented!

  4. Yet another instance of, ” I never would have thought to…” in your tablescape. Those fall plaid napkins are perfect in late summer–with the touch of gold color, and combined with the plain ones. The red in them also pairs so well with the crabs and lobsters. Good job And that shark flatware never fails to crack me up!

    • Thanks, Mia! It is hysterical! I was thinking today, I need to break down and buy some shell flatware, too…I love the beach themed tables for summer. Happy Weekend!

  5. I really like both versions of those seashell chargers you made! Your new server makes a great centerpiece, adorned with your shells that hold happy memories of past summers at the beach! I love summer, too, so I’m happy to hold on to summer vibes a little longer.

  6. I love this end of summer table setting Susan! It is so fun and cute. Your new napkins look great with the plain napkins and I just love your tiered tray with the shells from vacation memories of past summers, a great way to use a tied tray! I have loved your shell chargers since you made them, they never get old! I’m not ready to let go of summer yet. I know it’s been hot, but summer is always so short and I missed half my summer being laid up with a fractured knee for 8 weeks. So I’m going to hold on to it as long as I can. lol Hugs, Brenda

    • Thanks so much, Brenda! I so agree, we have to hold onto to summer as long as we can! Argggh, that’s awful and sounds painful. I hope you are healing quickly now so you can get some summer fun before fall comes along.

  7. I hate that summer is coming to an end, so thanks for one last tablescape for us to hold onto and look back on when we need a little summer “fix”. And speaking of looking back…..I recently had a small addition added to my master bedroom and it includes a walk in closet with higher-than-expected shelves. I figured pretty quickly that I would need to get a step stool somewhere, and then I remembered you had a recent post about a step stool you really liked. It didn’t take long to find that post, and I bought it on the spot! Thank you so much for keeping prior posts available to us.

  8. Susan your table is perfect for summer, and I love love the crab and clam plates! The napkins look great too, and I must remember your tier idea for the centerpiece. And yes, if only summer could last longer – like maybe all winter? lol.

  9. I LOVE your DIY shell charger plates, that’s a project I need to buckle down on and and try. As everyone tries to hurry into autumn, I love looking at and lingering on this summer beachy tablescape. The red crab place card holders are hilarious, I love them! Happy Tablescape Thursday!
