Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Georgia

Sharing a few more pics I took while touring the Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Georgia:

The staircase going down to the terrace level was painted. I have a back stairway in my home where I’d so love to do this type treatment.

This pic below came from the Southern Living online site. Check out the cool use of the space under the stairs! Love it!

The family room was downstairs on the terrace level, as well. How do you like the doors into the family room. Note the closing mechanism. Is this what they call a barn door style?

The family room….

This pic taken from the SL site shows a close up of the “family” calendar in the family room. You’ll find a tutorial showing how to make this calendar at Southern Living online.

Another shot of the family room…

See you tomorrow evening for Metamorphosis Monday. I’ll be sharing a Pottery Barn hack…I think you’re gonna like it. 🙂

I really like this home except the family room might be softened up a bit with some rugs. The floor looks a little uncomfortable. Otherwise the house is beautiful and I, too, love the painted stairs.

I can't wait to see tomorrows post!! ;-D

Beautiful House. I Love the Barn style door! Its sooo cool:)

  4. Always so neat to see what is out there…old, new, indifferent.

I like a more traditional house so having the barn look doesn't turn my crank, but still enjoyed seeing what you have shared.

God bless and have a terrific Thanksgiving Day,

We had a SL house in Savannah a couple of years ago. I went to visit three times. They always come up with something new each year. Thanks again. Ginger

Good morning! Love this house, the painted stairs are beautiful and I, too, wouold love to pint ours going down to the lower level. Our family room is down there too! Is that a real brick floor in the SL family room? When we were children my Uncle lived in a VERY small house and he made every tread on the stairs so that you could lift it and there was storage in there!!!! I thought it was the greatest thing, even as a child! Thanks for the tour!!!!! I have a new post up. XO, Pinky

Susan, this is so cute! I love the staircase. That is a cool idea about the painted rug. And I love the drawers under the stairs. And I'm crazy about the barn door. SO neat!

Speaking of crazy, I have been crazy busy lately, and I wish you were around the corner so you could come by and help me figure out which runners to use on the table for this thing coming up. I am going to have to make some, I finally decided, out of a Christmas plaid tablecloth. The group went with my "Nantucket" Christmas salad plates. So I have been trying to find some runners that will work with them to give them an option for the table.

I also want to thank you for popping over to Eddie's for my roast. I appreciate it more than you know and love you bunches!

I have fall tablescapes, but it looks like it might be winter before I get them posted. LOL! MAYBE next week and the week after, though that's sort of anti-climatic. Also have a Christmas one ready that I hope you will like.

    XO,

    Sheila 🙂

  21. Susan, do you have any photos of your back staircase that you would share with us? Is it like a servant's stairway? I just love back staircases!

  22. Handy Man, Crafty Woman says

PS, I meant to say, OUCH about your wrist, hope it doesn't hurt too badly. that sounds like something I'd do.

    and…Nice new banner!! Love it!

  23. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

    Hi Amy,
My house was just built when back stairways were popular and it goes from my upstairs family room to my downstairs laundry room. It wasn't a servants stairway. I do see those on historic home tours, though. Here are links to two posts that show the top of the steps and the bottom where they come out in the laundry room. When I hard wood the upstairs family room, I want to paint that stairway then. 🙂

  24. Your porch looks so pretty!

  25. Jennifer Tidwell says

Your house already looks like it belongs in a magazine. Great job!

  26. Did I read this right? You have a back stairway? Have you posted pics of it yet? And when/why did it become the standard to locate it facing the front door? So awkward and lacks privacy.
