Spots and Spotlights: A Live Interview with the Mid-Morning Show on WBCL

Shaking in my boots.  Okay, it was more like shaking in my sneakers. 😉

This morning I had the pleasure of being interviewed LIVE for the radio show, Spots and Spotlights, hosted by Lynne Ford and Bekah Shaffer.
Mid-Morning Show with Lynne and Bekah

It was that “live” part that had me just a tad nervous but Lynne and Bekah are so wonderful, they quickly put me at ease. If you’re here visiting for the first time, Welcome!  So glad you’re here…we have a good time around these parts! 🙂

If you would like to listen to the interview, you’ll find it here:  Spots and Spotlights with Lynne Ford and Bekah Shaffer

Just click on the “♫ Listen Now” link and a little box will pop up where you’ll press the arrow to start the show.

On the Air

I recommend listening to the whole show because these ladies are funny!  They had me laughing out loud at the beginning of the show as they talked about the unexpected visits the author of the Mitford series, Jan Karon, used to get from visitors who went searching, hoping to find the real town of Mitford after reading her books.

If you’re short on time, you’ll find the BNOTP interview starts right around the 42.30  spot in the broadcast.  Hope you can’t tell how nervous I was and there’s no escaping my southern accent!

Note to self: When being interviewed, try to NOT start sentences with “Wellllll.” 🙂

Bekah and Lynne also have a blog, you’ll find it here: Mid-Morning with Lynne and Bekah  They have a neat “recipe” for making compost “tea” for your plants.  Great time of the year for this as our gardens begin waking up after their long winter’s nap.  Also, Bekah has a blog called Bekah’s Bits where she writes from the heart.  I’ve really enjoyed reading it.

Thanks again to Bekah and Lynne for a fun interview on their fabulous Mid-Morning show!

    Susan,

You did not sound nervous at all.

I even got a few tips during the interview. Who knew that ceiling fans
blades would droop if not made for outdoors.

  3. congrats! Now we know how you sound. Have a great day! Carol

  4. Congrats and I think you did a great job! You didn’t sound nervous. What a thrill and fun it must have been.

  10. I loved hearing your southern accent! Makes me miss my Louisiana friends and being called “Miss Amy”. I’m in Missouri now…people don’t have southern manners here. 😉 You didn’t sound nervous at all…great job! Have a wonderful day!

  14. What a wonderful interview, Susan! You didn’t sound nervous at all, and I didn’t notice the Southern accent, either. Of course, being from Georgia, I probably wouldn’t, would I? You did great, sounded very comfortable , like you’ve been giving interviews for years. 🙂

  15. You are a pro Susan….you sounded great and not one bit nervous! Your beautiful porch brought me to your blog and I have enjoyed everything about your creativity since….thanks for sharing your life! — Marti

Susan, it was a great interview and you sounded wonderful and confident. It was very nice to hear your voice (love the southern accent). Now when reading your blog it will be as though you are actually speaking; a lovely voice to go with the words.

  19. Margo Kuhn says

Can’t wait to listen to it. Will have to do it after I get home from work.

  20. Well, if you didn’t sound like Miss Professional! You know what I thought first? When I read what you wrote, I was thinking the CDC had contacted you and you were being interviewed about the e-coli incident! So glad it was the porch instead!!! What a nice compliment to you that the hosts enjoy your blogs just like us regular folks. I detected no nerves and thought you came across like a real pro, congrats!

  21. Cecilia says

    Hi, Susan!
I just got back from my trip to Italy. We visited the lake Como which has been dreamy but stressful, too, because of the streets that seemed to consist of scary, tight hairpin turns, only!
I am glad hubby and I are still alive! lol
Susan, I am also glad you are doing well and I so loved to hear your voice, again! 🙂
I think you sounded very relaxed and professional, not nervous at all: You are a star! 🙂
Lynne and Bekah are so right: you are the blogger at the “ever-so-inviting” BNOTP blog!
Actually, I have been thinking about you and sweet Max every day, (ask my husband! lol) and I’ve been missing my favorite porch so much! 🙂
    ~Hugs to you~
    Cecilia

    • Cecilia, you lucky duck! I want to hear all about your trip! I so want to go to Italy one day. I bet the streets are scary! Glad you made it back in one piece. 🙂 Thanks, Cecilia…appreciate those good thoughts! XO

  22. This was fun. You sounded great. Very confident and knowledgeable. I don’t know how you find your way into such interesting situations.

  23. kathleen says

Yes, you had your lovely soft southern sound, good for you. Of course you did well, you were talking about your passion! You know, those gals did a great job, very conversational. Also…they mentioned Mitford, and I think I might re-read JK’s Mitford series this summer. Who doesn’t love those characters? Congrats on a job well done 🙂 Hope you are feeling healthier every single day 🙂

  24. So nice to put a voice with your blog picture. You did great! What southern accent? Sounds like normal talk ’round here. 😉

  25. Pam ~ Crumpety Cottage says

Susan! I honestly don’t think I would have identified you as southern, based on this interview. I’m not from the south, but have lived here for 20 years and even though I’m further north than you, the native folks in this area sound waaay more southern than you, lol. 😀 And I didn’t even notice the ‘wellll’s’ you were talking about. You did great! Congrats!

  26. Betty819 says

    Susan,
You were great; didn’t sound nervous at all! What great advertisement you just received! Bet you’ll will gain a lot more blog fans now after that interview. I was so proud of you! Keep up the good work!

  27. Susan, you should have a BNOTP radio show – you did such a fantastic job, don’t be surprised if someone contacts you about just that! You sounded like you’d done this a million times before – you’re a natural! Terrific job, my friend! 🙂

  28. I meant to add : You do not have an accent !!! 😀
    Enjoy your evening !

  29. Hi Susan,
I loved listening to your interview. I love your blog and happy for you and your success with growing your blog to such popularity. My prayers are with you and yours. You are my inspiration…

  30. I truly enjoyed the interview, Susan. You sounded great and very professional. You have an accent? Ha, wait until you hear my strong Spanish accent! 🙂

  31. Susan, you did a fantastic job in that interview and sounded very cool, calm, and collected. It was fun to hear your voice. I kept thinking that I couldn’t believe you were able to do this after being so sick not that long ago. Very impressive!

  32. You did great on your interview, Susan! Congrats on the well deserved recognition for your blog. So glad for you.
Hugs to you and sweet Max.

  33. Sharon Avinger says

I am so proud of you, Susan! I listened to the entire interview.. I always talk too fast, but you sounded very cool and calm. Being from South Carolina, I didn’t hear any accent at all! Tee hee.

  34. Well, you did a fantastic job, Susan! I learned a lot about how your great porch “came to be”. Maybe it’s ’cause I’m from Alabama but I didn’t notice you have a strong Southern accent…just a nice voice!

  35. Great interview Susan! You didn’t sound nervous at all. Hmm, maybe you should start adding videos on your blog! Those 2 gals do a great job. Did you know that Leo worked in radio for over 30 years? Paula Dean used to advertise her restaurant on his show, and I remember them doing live commercials with her. She was a hoot and a real character, even way back then!

    • Really? I had no idea he did that…very cool! She is a hoot, I think that’s why she is so popular. I’ve met her once in person at a book signing. It was super quick since there was a giant line. I took my sister to meet her that day…fun day! When I see you guys at Haven, Leo will have to tell me more about his radio career!

  36. Dear Susan it was a great interview to you, you did wonderful and I’m so proud of you! I was so happy to hear your sweet voice and how you talk about your porch, things I didn’t know about, like how you came about building it with your contructors and all! I also love the Home Alone house and my oldest daughter was a bout that age too, like your Chip and now she’s got children of her own, lol.. Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed it so much! Big hugs,
    FABBY

  37. Susan, Bravo!!! I must say that you sounded as if you had your own radio show and now I’m thinking why don’t you? I heard no nerves….such a smooth Southern accent! You’re a natural! Congratulations!

  38. Susan, You didn’t sound nervous at all and your Southern accent is barely noticeable compared! 🙂

  39. Susan – Lynne and I were on the road yesterday afternoon taking our “BLT” show to a church banquet – so we were huddled in the church bathroom redoing our hair and reading your post. What a SWEET post about your experience on Mid-Morning. We were both SO excited to talk to you and you did a FANTASTIC job. I’ve only been in radio 2 years and I still shake in my sneakers to DO interviews, so we were a pair. Oh how thankful I am to have found your blog and love all the the inviting, warm things you post.

Thanks for the shout out to our blogs too!! 🙂 Much love!

    • Thanks, Bekah! You guys are great! So nice to hear even the pros get a bit of nerves sometime. 🙂 Love your voice and Lynne’s too…so beautiful and great to listen to! Thanks so much, Bekah! Love you guys!

  40. I listened to the entire program and enjoyed it all. Great interview! You did well, and I could not tell you were nervous.

  41. What fun to hear you talk about your home, your porch and what has inspired you. Hearing your voice made you seem like an even more real person. It’s quite a community you have created with your blog.

  42. Frances says

Hi Susan. Welllll, I’m from Texas and your accent sounds like normal people LOL. Enjoyed the interview. Enjoy to blog.

  43. Susan, you sounded so relaxed-like you are on the radio all the time. Good job!
    Rita

  44. Susan – I really enjoyed listening to your interview. I am just confused about one thing – what southern accent??? It sounded normal to me – hahahaha!!

  45. Loved hearing your voice..although, I thought interview we get to SEE YOU…oh well maybe next time.
I need you to know, you are the first thing I open in the morning when I open my email, I want your porch!!!!!!
Please keep up the pics and lovely ideas….
Bless you for coming into my home every morning and brining sunshine to my house…
    p.s.
After you set up these wonderful tablesetting, do you have a lunch for guest????

    • Thanks, Rosie! Appreciate that! Sometimes I do if I have friends coming for dinner or for the weekend. Then I’ll often leave it up. The pollen is so bad today, I think I’ll go ahead and take this one down, though before it’s covered in the yellow stuff.

  46. Susan,
I just listened to your radio interview. It was so nice to hear your voice. You sounded just like I thought you would…a classy southern lady.
I am so proud of your successes. I remember when you were posting to Rate My Space. I think you had magnolia in your name. Wow, how your star has risen and deservedly so!
    Blessings for the weekend, Ginger

    • Thanks, Ginger, really appreciate that. 🙂 I remember those RMS days…I was so amazed when I found that site, then not long after, came across my first blog. Blogs still amaze me! I met so many wonderful ladies on RMS and I still remain friends with them today. How awesome is this thing called the internet! RMS seems like a million years ago now, so much has happened since then. Hope your weekend is wonderful in lovely Savannah! 🙂

  47. Shelly Powell says

I am new to your blog. LOVE IT!! I have a screened in porch and it is the best money I have ever spent! I am out there every chance I get and even take an occasional nap out there. My porch is very much like yours except I have more of a shabby chic look. My wicker is all white, but I have other primitive antique furniture out there. While I like what I have out there very much, I noticed you stick mainly to a white theme, which I think gives it more of a uniform look that I like. I too have white sheers from Walmart, this will be their 3rd year . I take them down from November through February for the winter. I wash them and store them until spring. I used tension rods instead of a permanent rod.
Loved your interview, you sound so nice. 🙂 I am glad I found your blog. I am obsessed with decorating and viewing other homes as well.
    Blessings to you…
    Shelly

    • Shelly, I love a shabby look, too…your porch sounds wonderful! I sometimes take my sheers down in the winter to wash and then leave them down for a while. Kind of nice to see it wide open without them for a few months. The tension rods sound like a great way to hang them. Thanks so much about the interview…it was scary and fun! 🙂 So glad you are here! You are def among friends if you love decorating and home tours. 🙂

  48. Mary from Virginia says

I just got a chance to listen to the radio show! You sounded great, not nervous, and your southern voice is perfect! Glad you got such a fun opportunity.

  49. Susan, I just listened to the radio show…you did fantastic…I heard no “boots shaking”…So happy for you that they found you!!…Loved it!!

  50. Hi Susan,
