Spring Dessert Buffet for An Outdoor Party

Welcome to the 285th Tablescape Thursday!

Yesterday I shared a Pottery Barn inspired potting table I built for my deck, an area where each year I do a lot of container gardening for summer. This was the inspiration table, the Abbott Island Buffet/Potting Table.

Pottery Barn Abbott Potting Table

This was the version I created for around $1,050 less than the inspiration table. 🙂

Pottery Barn Abbott Inspired Potting Table & Buffet Server

One of the neat things about this table is that it can also be used as a server for outdoor parties as shown in this picture from Pottery Barn online. So, last night…

Pottery Barn Abbott Buffet Table

…I had some fun creating a little spring dessert buffet using things I already had. Daffodils and bunnies always say, springtime! The center dragonfly hook made a great hanger for an egg wreath in spring shades of green, yellow and pale pink.

Spring Easter Dessert Buffet with Cupcakes

I didn’t have time to do any baking since this was a last minute idea, so I made a quick run to the market in search of cupcakes. I lucked out and found some dressed in the colors of daffodils, perfect for this spring themed setting.

Everything in this setting has been used in previous table settings here at BNOTP except for the green and white polka dot glasses. Those were a find from the dollar store a year or two ago. Wish I could Photoshop in a lush green backdrop for this tablescape instead of white, unfinished basement walls. Use your imagination and imagine this table against a backdrop of trees or beautiful greenery. I’m looking forward to putting this table on the deck where it belongs real soon.

The white bunnies have made several appearances in previous table settings including an Easter table (Spring Easter Tablescape with a Wisteria Centerpiece) and an Alice in Wonderland tablescape.

Does this put you in the mood for spring?

If spring is still a long ways off where you live, this table setting was created for you! Bringing a little springtime your way!

I’ve used the floral beverage server in other tablescapes like this one: Lemonade on the Porch

Bunny cupcake stands work well with our spring table setting. You may remember them from this previous tablescape: Easter Spring Tablescape with a Tulip Centerpiece

A bunny cake plate covered with a garden cloche, gives a nod to the other purpose for which this table was built.

You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party in order to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.)

If you would like to use the Tablescape Thursday logo button in your post, just copy and paste it to your computer and upload it to your post as you would any photo.

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

  1. So glad to have found your blog! So beautiful!! And yes, unfortunately Spring is a long time off for us here in Indy… So this brings some hope to my day that it’ll come ONE day. 🙂 I LOVE the bunnies with green ribbons and the bunny cupcake stands. Will have to hunt for those.

    • Thanks so much, Kim! Appreciate those sweet words! I hope Spring hurries up and makes it way to Indy! This has been a particularly brutal winter for so many areas. Shhh, don’t tell anyone because they’ll all be gone soon but Pottery Barn has bunny cupcake stands again this year! 🙂 They are slightly different but just as adorable. I couldn’t resist and ordered 6 last night to go with the 6 I have now. I thought it would be fun to mix the two styles. Here’s a link to them. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a terrible influence! 😉 http://www.potterybarn.com/products/easter-best-bunny-stoneware-cupcake-stand/?pkey=ceaster-new&

      • Thank you so much for taking the time to share that with me! I have a rewards certificate burning a hole in my pocket from PB…. SO I will head over now. Really appreciate your taking the time to share the link with me. Have a great night… Look forward to being a regular reader and glad to have connected!

  2. Susan, I am inspired by your cart and how you accomplished it – I pinned it. This is my first time to the tablescape party, and it just so happens my little luncheon tablescape coordinates with your colors on the cart. Love those spring colors – my favorite of all the seasons! Thanks for hosting, and have a great rest of the week.

  3. Susan, I ADORE your cart! So perfect for potting and entertaining too! I had to pop over to see the ‘how-to’, I admire your math skills 🙂

  4. You had mentioned that you felt the potting bench could be used as a “server” too and you nailed it!….What a beautiful dessert “buffetscape”….I love those bunny plates…and just got the new ones this year at PB…so cute!…Again, you did a spectacular job building the bench!

    • Oh, Shirley…I couldn’t resist either! I had put them in my shopping cart a week or so ago and didn’t order them but last night after doing creating that setting, I broke down and ordered 6. I thought it might be fun to mix the two in a table sometime. I also ordered those darling kissing bunny napkin rings…did you see those? ♥ So cute! PB knows just how to reel us in, don’t they?

  5. Thank you for the gorgeous colors! It is a balmy 4 degrees outside today and we need some. Your potting bench is gorgeous and I still absolutely adore those bunny dessert plates. They are the sweetest and I can’t stop staring at them.
Thanks for hosting another wonderful party!
    XO,
    Christine

    • Brrrr…that’s cold! Christine…Pottery Barn has them this year, too. They are a bit different but just as adorable. If you want some, get them now. They never last long because the eBay seller buy them all and then put them on eBay for twice or triple the price.

  6. Just wanted to say thanks for giving the additional info about the potting/serving cart.
AND, you did an awesome job!!!!
What an inspiration you are to all of us who want to try some big project and never get there….thanks!!
    Susan

  7. Thanks for hosting Susan! We had a couple of nice spring-like days, but were back down to 17 degrees this morning.

  8. Oh my goodness, your tablescapes are always out of this world and beautiful! Happy to be joining your party today, it’s always a pleasure! Thanks for hosting-
    Nancy

  9. Rhonda Steelman says

I can’t thank you enough for this tablescape of bunnies and daffodils and colors! Much needed spring teaser for me!

  10. Susan, first I want to write that I think those dragonfly hooks just make your gardening table. Oh, they are wonderful! Second, I want to tell you how I needed to see your spring tablescape! I thought spring had arrived here in Georgia only to be greeted by 30 degree weather this morning – ugh!! Love your bunnies and nothing says “Spring” like daffodils!!

    • Thanks, Diane! I found those at Lowes…they would really be cute for so many applications! I know, not fair is it. We always get teased like this…warms up to the 60-70’s then plummets again. Hang in there Diane, spring is coming!

  11. Your blog brings such sunshine to me!! Thank you for your creativity and interest in all the things I seem to love!

  12. I have a feeling that your new potting bench/server is going to lend itself to lots of tablescaping possibilities!!! It looks so fabulous today!

  13. Susan, you made that cart? Wow! I’m so impressed. I’ll have to go back and read about it. Your Spring buffet is delightful. I love those basket cupcake holders. What a wonderful use for your cart! laurie

  14. This is so cute and really nice ideas, Susan. In fact, it gave me an idea of using my potting bench as a buffet table when I want to serve outside….Christine

  15. I love your potting bench. I love the idea of putting it on wheels.
    Hugs. Becky

  16. This is too stinking cute! Love how you decorated it. The easter theme with the potted daffodils is adorable.
I’m plotting a plan of how to get that upstairs. 🙂

    • LOL It’s going to take at least two strong burly men. The wood felt actually pretty lightweight when I was building it but when it all came together, it weighs a lot now. If it had been summer time, I probably would have built it on the deck itself. One good thing, I measured before I built it and the screened doors are 36 inches wide so I know it will fit through them. It’s got to go through two screened doors to the spot I have planned. :).

  17. You are the best “sister” a gal could have. I am so fired up now about making the cart! Hope you get to Kettering soon to see the little guy!

    • Do it, Anne! You’ll love it! It really wasn’t hard although I was sore from all the squatting and physical work of it. But it felt so good to create something from just a pile of boards. 🙂 It will be a few weeks and I can’t wait to see him! 🙂

  18. This is adorable! It really turned out well and always better to find something at a more reasonable price.

    – Alma, The Tablescaper

  19. Hi Susan,
You have put that potting bench to good use ~ I love the bunnies and the cheerful spring look you created.

    Thank you for hosting,
    Carolyn

  20. I can see why you didn’t have time for baking! Holy Hardware Susan! I can’t believe you made this fabulous cart, and of course you couldn’t wait to play with it! I am beyond impressed, your planning, your saw skills, and figuring the whole thing out~all while becoming a grandmother too! Wow! You are going to have so much fun with this and I look forward to seeing all the ways, it is incredible!

  21. I love the bunny cupcake stands. Just too cute! The entire set up is adorable and makes me anxious for the redbuds and tulips and such to bloom! You did a marvelous job on your potting table. I know you are going to enjoy this for many years. It will be fun to see how you decorate and use it over the next few years. And, YES, we all plan on keeping tabs on you for several years to come. After all, we need to watch that grandson of yours grow up!!!!

  22. Selma Claire says

    Susan-
Your posts always, Always, ALWAYS make me smile! Your potting table is absolutely perfect–I particularly love the use of the dragonfly hooks! Looking forward to seeing how you incorporate it in future tablescapes. Did you draw up a custom plan for that table? You did a wonderful job! That just isn’t something you can throw together without some thought.
I hope you have some egg hunts at your place when your grandson gets a little older–I bet you’d have your home looking like Spring/Easter central!
    Go Susan, Go! 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Selma. I didn’t draw up a plan but I was wondering if there’s a program out there for an amateur like me that will let you draw up a plan. I was thinking if I could do that, I could post it and it would make it so much easier for anyone who wants to build it. I would have killed for a plan! Okay, that’s a little exaggeration, but it sure would have been a lot easier. I’m going to pursue that and see if I can find something that’s not over my head and fairly user-friendly to do that because I’d love to build a few more things in the future.
LOL I just wish he wasn’t so far away. I may have to pack my bags and move to Ohio. I don’t like this long distance grandmother stuff.

  23. This is just too pretty for words! Love it all. I think you are going to be partying more than potting with that gorgeous cart you built!

  24. pam ~ crumpety cottage says

Susan, hee … you’re like a little kid with a new toy. 😀 And what a toy! Oh my gosh, I do so wish I could drop by and help you dispatch those goodies. The little bunnies holding up the cup cakes are too ridiculously cute. The things you find! Love the look of the glass cloche and the egg wreath is so cute too. The colors are all so perfect and hopeful. Sigh. Spring. ~

    • Thanks so much, Pam! Pottery Barn has some more of the cupcake holders in this year, a slightly different style but just as stinkin’ cute if you want some. I never thought about hanging a wreath on the hooks! lol

  25. Cathy Miller says

You are so smart! I love the table and the colors of your buffet are right down my alley. It’s still pretty cold here, but I have seen some daffodils blooming around here lately. Thanks for the cheerful post!!

    • Cathy, you guys are ahead of us! Mine are up out of the grown but no where near blooming yet. I think we have a warm spell coming though so maybe they will soon. I just love them!

  26. Your potting/buffet table is wonderful. It’s going to be a very versatile piece! I loved them before, and still love them — those bunny cupcake stands. Adorable. Thank you for hosting Susan.

    • Thanks, Deborah! Pottery Barn has the bunny cupcake holders again this year. They are a little different but just as cute! If you want some, order them now because they will go in the blink of an eye. I just ordered some to mix with the ones I currently have. I don’t know how they think up all these cute things but they definitely have my number! 🙂

      • thank you Susan! I went over to their website just after I commented and didn’t see them. But after I got your reply I went back again and found them. Not sure how I missed them the first time, but thank you so much!! I ordered three, and can’t wait for spring to come.

  27. Susan, I am feeling very springlike and happy after viewing your post.

  28. So adorable Susan, you made me forget the snow outside and yearn for Spring. I am still wowing at Miss Cart, look how versatile she is!! 🙂

  29. That potting cart is awesome Susan! You did a fabulous job, better than Pottery Barn! The spring cart with all the bunnies is adorable and gorgeous…those bunnies are the best, ever! Thank you for having me at your great party dear Susan.

    Hugs,
    FABBY

  30. Hi, Susan! The Pottery Barn version is against a white wall, so yours works there, too! 🙂

One of these would be perfect for our deck…something I could move around and that sits low enough. I’m not a handy person, and Lord KNOWS my husband isn’t, so I guess we’d be paying that $1050+!!! 🙂 Sometimes I look back on my life and think how different things would be if I’d taken a shop class or two in high school rather than those high-handed classes I opted in on. 🙂

This is a beautiful representation of Spring. I hope it gets here sooner than later! Of course, you ladies in the South are going to see that end of the tunnel before very long. We here in the Midwest are looking at yet another round of snow, sleet, and below freezing temps for the next few days. Yippee. NOT! 🙂

    • That’s a good point, Alycia…makes me feel a little better about mine. lol I wish I had some made photoshop skills, I would have faked one photo and added a pretty background. 🙂
I know, I do the same thing…wishing I had take a shop or tools class. I even tried to find a shop class around here but the ones I found were OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I want someone to teach me how to build shelves. There are so many places in my home where I’d love to add built-in shelves. Wonder if I could find a video to teach me that.
Yikes! I hope that weather doesn’t last long and you guys warm up soon!

  31. NEEDED this! Luv the bell jars, etc. franki

  32. OH MY GOSH! This is absolutely adorable. It’s really a dreary day here and your potting bench decor makes me so excited for Spring. Thank you.

  33. OMG! Susan…

This will be my Easter/Spring inspiration. Thank You so much for inspiring me.

    Love your pieces, dearly.

    Hugs from drizzling Stockholm
    /CC girl

  34. Don’t you love it when a piece intended for one purpose becomes so multifunctional?

  35. Oh Susan, this is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you SO much for this beautiful taste of glorious Spring! It is FRIGID here, going down to MINUS 4 tonight and this weekend we are getting yet ANOTHER major storm. I have never been so sick of Winter. You are one AMAZING woman: I can’t believe you mADE the potting bench! It is fabulous. I wish I had a spot for one. But we have rules here. So, I will have to enjoy yours. I just love this. XO

    • Pinky that is cold! Good gracious, woman…throw some extra blankets on the bed and fire up the hot water bottle! 🙂
Awww, thanks! It really was a lot of fun. I could hardly make myself stop each night and go to bed. 🙂 By rules, do you mean homeowner association rules? Would they not let you have a potting bench/table?

  36. Thanks for getting me excited for Spring/Easter!!! I love your bunnies!!!

  37. Did you build that potting bench yourself? I love it!! I need to show my hubby, heh. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy Tablescape Thursdays. I know you’ve been hosting them for a long while but I so enjoy browsing all the links. I get so many good ideas and find new blogs as a result.

  38. PS: hubby talked to his brother in Minnesota today. It was -17 degrees.

    • Wow, that is cold! Don’t think I’d like that too much. 🙂 Yep, I built it all by my little self. All the sore muscles (and math) were worth it though. 🙂 Thanks, Barbara!

  39. What a delightful buffet for your lovely garden cart! It’s like a much-need breath of Spring air. Here in Chicagoland it is below zero again, so I’m wondering if my bulbs will be up in May!! Your beautiful blog is always such a nice visual escape!

  40. Dear Susan,
Love the serving buffet! I am off to pottery barn tomorrow!
The spring display is so heartwarming!
I’m anxious to see what u will do for St. Patrick’s Day!
    Hugs,
    Ann

  41. Love this idea! Perfect for spring, and your color scheme is so refreshing and cheery.

  42. Love everything about this display! With more of “the white stuff” coming to Ohio again this weekend, I’ll be sure to stare at these photos so I don’t get too depressed! Thanks for always inspiring 🙂

  43. Deonna Bundrick says

You could stand a piece of white lattice behind your table! I thought it looked great against the bare wall, too…..nothing to distract from the beauty of the tablescape.

  44. It looks wonderful! The daffs look so cheerful. It is so cold and another major storm due Sunday. Enough!
    Enjoy your new cart.

  45. I have been wanting a potting table for ages. The one that you made is gorgeous! I am definitely going to have to play copycat on this one. I saw that you posted some more detailed info on your post today. Your dimensions look perfect for the space I have on my patio. Thank you so much for sharing. Thank you for the breath of springtime. And thank you for hosting……… Candy

  46. Beautiful both ways. Can’t wait to see it in all its glory on the porch. I continue to admire your talent and creativity.

  47. Hi Susan, thanks for taking the time to show us your work. I think you are fabulous and very creative.
    Love, hugs and blessings,
    Barbie, The Transcendent Homemaker.
