Summer Dresses: Flowing and Oh, So Feminine!

When I was packing to take off to Ireland last summer, it dawned on me that I should take along a summer maxi dress. I wanted something pretty and flowing, a dress that would be perfect for a summer evening or dinner in Ireland.

I searched in vain that evening but never found anything I really liked. I ended up buying a navy, floral dress that was really a little too big, but I knew I could camouflage it with a sweater I was also taking along. Navy isn’t the best color on my complexion but it was the best I could do having waited so late to shop. I vowed then to keep my eye out for some pretty, summer, maxi-style dresses when I returned, so I wouldn’t have to go through another one of those last-minute, panicked shopping trips ever again.

That was one of the reasons I purchased these two maxi dresses while in Maui a few weeks ago when I tripped over them in one of the shops there. These will be perfect for casual summer parties or dinners out.

Both dresses have side or back slits giving them a fun summer vibe. I would still like to find something a little dressier for summer dinner parties that call for something a little less casual.

Nordstrom is having its big Anniversary sale that only comes around once a year. I’m not a card member, so I can’t shop the Early Access sale just yet. If you have a Nordstrom Credit Card, lucky you! You’ll find the sale here: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

Though I can’t shop the sale yet, I checked out their Clearance items and found some long, summer dresses that are tempting me. These would be beautiful for dinner out, or a summer event/party.

Love this feminine off-the-shoulder dress. The color is beautiful and so soft…perfect for a summer evening. It’s available here: Dress.

This one makes me think of that wonderfully, romantic song, Lady in Red. Again, very feminine and so pretty with all the beautiful tiered layers. Dresses like this tend to be very figure-flattering. It’s available here: Dress.

The last one that caught my eye is this one. I love dresses where they are designed higher in the front. They add a bit of height and are just more feminine for us vertically challenged folks.

This dress is also available in a beautiful floral pattern. Both dresses are on sale 40% off so really an awesome price. You’ll find them here: Dress. I’m seriously thinking of ordering this one below and the red one. Love both!

Have a wonderful summer weekend, dear Friends!

Update:

This bag isn’t on sale, but I’m obsessed with the color! It seems to be sold out everywhere but here: Straw Bag by Prada.

Get them all! They are lovely! Then host a party.

  2. I had already seen the red one and had loved it too. All of them looked good for an evening out.

  3. All so pretty and feminine; it would be tough to choose. Can’t wait to see which ones you get.

  4. Hi. Enjoyed the blog. Interested in the orange layered maxi dress–do not have the site to purchase. Thx!

  5. Can you put in the link to the red dress — it’s beautiful!

I pick the floral for you! It’s very feminine and pretty flowers like in your yard!

  7. Love your choices. The one that reminds you of “The Lady in Red” song is gorgeous. The cream floral is elegant and romantic. Order them before they run out of your size.

I’m a dress girl. Love them all. The pink off the shoulder and the red are faves. I’m not a high low fan. Beautiful picks!

  9. Oh Susan,
I ♥ all of those dresses, especially that off-the-shoulder one and that tiered ruffle one! They are feminine and romantic, too! 🙂
Actually, all I wear during summer are dresses and bohemian (gypsy) skirts, which make me feel… good. 🙂 I remember one day, a few years ago, the little granddaughter of my neighbor (I think she was 6-7 years old back then) coming to me and she touched gently the long ruffled skirt I wore that day and said: ‘Oh, Mrs. De Angelis, you look like a woman!’ LOL
(She was so cute and I knew exactly what she meant!) 🙂

  10. Susan, I have a wedding to go to in Sept. and have been SEARCHING for a dress!!! I want a maxi dress but either a cold shoulder or an elbow length sleeve dress. Can NOT find anything. If you find something could you let me know. I am getting desperate:):)

  11. Normally not a fan of red, however do love the three-layered ruffle tiered one. Also like that there has been a revival of midi and maxi lengths as IMO not only very feminine but they are also very easy to wear. -Brenda-

  12. Very pretty! I think the peach one would look very complimentary with your complexion and hair color.

  13. Charlotte says

I love them all! You can’t go wrong no matter which you choose. Add a cute sandal and you are good to go!

  14. I adore those dresses but that off the shoulder dress is so darling Susan. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
