Tempting Finds, May Go Back for a Few Things

Welcome to the 682nd Metamorphosis Monday!

No big “Before and After” happening around here for today but I did get some inspiration from antiquing this weekend. The first place I visited was The Market in Woodstock, Georgia.

Saw this big guy just inside the front door.

I don’t know why I’m always drawn to sleds and toboggans since I absolutely can’t stand cold weather. They just make me think of happy, good times, I guess. These would be so fun to decorate a porch with during the fall and winter. The toboggan was priced at $150.

Another sled…love it mounted on the wall!

Beautiful Burlwood Highboy, $1,099

I was super tempted by these. They aren’t showing up well in this photo but the matting was a pretty green color. I may go back for these because I think they would work great on a wall in the hall/passage area off of my downstairs den/living room.

Interesting lamp! It was only $39.50. Love looking for lamps when I’m out antiquing.

Authentic Antique French Armoire: I couldn’t get over how reasonably priced this beautiful piece is! It was originally priced at $1,295 and is currently marked down to $895.

Beautiful details! You would never find this in furniture being manufactured today.

Just in awe of this piece!

I wish I had a place in my home for it. It’s pretty big and tall so would look great in a large room with high ceilings.

To give you an idea of how the booths look throughout this antique mall, I snapped a photo of the room. There’s that beautiful armoire on the right.

Antique High Chair: $350

Wish I’d had the time to look through all the books in this booth–they had a lot!

In the center of the store was this pretty gardening/greenhouse-looking area.

A peek inside…

Just across the street from The Market is another antique shoppe, Woodstock Antiques.

Lots of vintage dishes…

Can you imagine sewing on these today? I didn’t check the prices on all of them but one of the ones on the second shelf down was $45.

I was intrigued by this 19th Century Swiss music box.

I guess these are the songs that it plays.

Look at the gorgeous inlay!

I think it was priced at $4,200, must be a pretty rare piece. I remember years ago going into a home on a Christmas home tour and one of the homeowners was in the living room of the home, playing this huge music box in the center of the room. I wonder now if it was a Swiss Music Box. The sound coming from it was HUGE, I couldn’t believe all that gorgeous music was emanating from that small music box–it was like having an orchestra playing in the room! I wonder if this music box would sound the same way.

There were a couple of other things that caught my eye that I may go back for today–trying to decide. If I do, I’ll be sure to share those in an upcoming post. This trip really lit the antiquing bug in me again! I also visited Old Time Pottery but this post is so long, I’ll share that trip in another post. I was super tempted by some flatware I saw in OTP but it was priced a bit higher than I would have liked.

Looking forward to all the wonderful Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday!

Susan, loved the depression glass in pink and green. Reminds me of my maternal grandmother. Do you ever see any Fiesta in the shops you visit. That was another love of my grandmother’s. The garden area was so lovely. Makes me want spring to get here – but no, more bad weather this week. Thanks for sharing your shopping. Gayle

  2. I love reading about your antiquing escapades! A beautiful antique mall with gorgeous pieces! That armoire was exquisite and well priced. It would look wonderful in a stately home. I wish I had places like this near my new home. There is only one and not much furniture. I am visiting Charleston next month looking to find consignment stores. Anyone have suggestions? I will be in Town of Mount Pleasant and driving from upstate New York! I hope I bring treasures home! Keep visiting these stores as it is a feast for my eyes !

  3. Thank you Susan! I always enjoy your shopping photos when you go antiquing. I’m surprised the person who owns the Swiss music box hasn’t had it appraised and placed in a Sotheby’s or Christie’s auction. It is exquisite!

  4. Oh, had to laugh when I saw the “vintage dishes”! We had Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne until just a few years ago. My mom bought it for me in 1976 and we collected almost every piece made over the years. Living near York, PA and the outlet…it was such fun. I would go once a year or so and stock up. My best friend had the Village pattern so it was a great time for us. I divided up the pieces between my great nieces who were starting out in apartments or college, and sold the rest at a yard sale. What a beautiful store…have to put it on my “someday to visit” list.

    • Gorgeous Antique Mall! So jealous. Would love to do a walk through! Loved the organization of dish sets by pattern and set out horizontally! Those Pfaltzgraff dishes were the best of their time to collect! I still have the America pattern and really can’t let it go-yet! Really loved collecting pieces from trips to York PA. Dishes are my thing!

Those bird prints are beautiful. What a treat to go antiquing with you! Thank you Susan for sharing!

  6. Thank you Susan! I enjoyed all your antiquing finds, fun shopping trip!

You DO have the “best eye!!!” Oh, the “credit card damage” we could do….franki

  8. Fun places to look and find treasures! Thanks for hosting.

  9. Ah the memories … ! I grew up with a sewing machine just like those – it had a wooden bottom and an arched wood top that you could attach when you wanted to carry it somewhere. It went forwards and backwards! 🙂 Thanks for taking us shoppping with you – it’s been ages since I’ve gone antiquing. If Georgia wasn’t so far away and there was a chance in the world I could get that big armoire up the narrow, twisty stairs to my bedroom, I’d snap it right up! Hope you’re having a lovely Monday, and thanks as always for hosting!

  10. Wow! I’d be in heaven strolling through there! So many pretties. Hope you’re doing fine and I’m glad to join your party today.
    Be a sweetie,
    Sheila 😉

  11. I love a good antique and vintage market! Thanks for taking us along. And thanks for hosting, Susan. Have a great week!

  12. The Market would be a place I’d frequent! Go back for the pictures! I am always amazed at the quality artwork I find at resale or charity shops. They are usually very well priced and classic in design. I have used Rub n Buff to doctor the frames in the past. I too love the armoire but have no place to put something that big without parting with other pieces. Thank you for sharing.

  13. Love these posts! A tip to anyone looking for a sewing machine to get started on ~ don’t overlook those old machines. I currently use one made in 1924 and it works like a champ. They are very simple, so most sewing machine repair places can get them up and running. And, unlike today’s machines, are made of metal. I do have other, more current machines I use as well, but the oldie is still a goodie, plus it’s pretty.

  14. Hi Susan- What a fun trip! Thanks for sharing it with us. That armoire stole my heart as well. And all the depression glass would make me giddy. I have the itch to go antiquing now. lol. XO- MaryJo

  15. I loved seeing the photos of the music box! My husband will be inheriting one like this soon and we’ve always wondered where and how to get it appraised. When his parents inherited it many years ago, they were never able to get it appraised around our area – of course that was long before the internet. Not that we would ever sell it, but would love to be able to know it’s insured properly.

  16. Linda Practical Parsimony says

The post was not too long! I only wish I were in the antique store.

  17. Those low prices on those mammoth sized furniture pieces are the reason why my sisters and I no longer will handle most furniture! It just doesn’t pay to have to haul it, clean it, and let it sit on the rented space in the booth. It’s a shame that beautiful furniture like that sells so cheaply (not for the buyers, of course). I like the prints and lamp you found! I recently bought a large acrylic painting from our antique mall to change up the art in my dining room for spring. Shopping antique malls make so much sense!

  18. I love to search antique shops for vintage barware. It is getting harder and harder to find! What a fun thing to do in bad weather.

  19. Oh My!!! What is the green iron looking something at front in the garden section?? I think I love that! Almost worth the drive over to shop there!!!

    • I think it’s designed to look like a sleigh, maybe to display potted plants. It would be a neat form to grow ivy or some type of climbing vine.

  20. Sabrina Holmes says

I love the bird prints! Definitely go back for them.

  21. Thanks again for hosting this lovely party every week! I know how much time goes into doing so and I want you to know that it is greatly appreciated!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  22. I just utterly love your posts on antiquing. I would positively enjoy the experience of the two malls. Thanks for scouting stuff out, Susan.

  23. Lots of gorgeous furniture and those dish/glass shelves were amazing. Thanks for hosting, fun post! Sandi

  24. If you were in Woodstock I hope you stopped in at Felber Home. They are friends of ours and have the best prices.

  25. Susan, you always manage to find such great pieces, and so often, at great prices! Those armoires. *Swoon.*

I also love your trips to the antique stores and the only thing that would make them better is if I accompanied you, lol. Personally, I love the fact that those pieces have been around for so long and loved by many others over the years. It’s sad to me that generally, the younger generation doesn’t care for antiques. 🙁 Maybe that will change with the next generation.

The third picture down shows a sled like the one I had. I remember zipping down icy hills in the city, dodging cars like an expert. At the time, it seemed perfectly normal. Now I think, the poor drivers!

I followed the link to the music box. The innovation! Can you imagine the work that went into creating those, to precisely place each little marker to play the tune correctly? And as if that wasn’t enough, they made the boxes so beautiful! That was a nice find, thanks for posting that link. I hope you have a wonderful week.

  26. Tina Reynolds says

What a wonderful shopping trip! I would go back for those bird prints. HURRY! Go now!

    • Lol, so many people told me I should have gotten the bird prints, I decided to go back for them. So I went back today and purchased them. Thanks for the encouragement Tina, they look awesome hanging in my paneled hallway off of the living room.

  27. I am definitely going to put those places on my treasure hunting bucket list the next time I got to GA. They look amazing! Thanks so much for hosting as always, CoCo

  28. Cyndi Raines says

What a beautiful store and I would love to stroll through it with you. I have a pink small dish that I found at a flea market and a green depression plate that was my moms. I really cherish those pieces. I put the pink one out for Valentine’s and the green for St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas and Easter. Love their simple beauty. Go back for the bird pictures! Lol
