Problem Solved: Hide Those Not-So-Attractive Toothbrushes and Toothpaste

Earlier this week I shared some new additions to my master bath. I’m hoping to fully renovate at least one of my baths next year but in the meantime, I’m appeasing myself by adding little improvements and touches that make my heart happy.

For example, I ordered this adorable birdie-themed tissue holder for the counter here in my master bath. Apparently, it’s my favorite tissue holder since this is the 4th one I’ve purchased. lol It just works great everywhere in my home so I keep using it. (Birdie tissue holder is available here: Birdie Tissue Holder.)

Another change I made was that I brought in a beautiful, little tray that I normally have in the guest room and filled it with things I use on a daily basis instead of just having them sitting directly on the counter. I also ordered a set of these pretty glass dispensers. This one shown below holds Cetaphil facial cleanser and I have hand soap in the other one which is over near the second sink in this bathroom. (Dispensers are available here in sets of 2: Soap Dispensers.)

I also ordered these beautiful, “bathroom” tumblers for the two sinks in this bathroom. I had a regular kitchen glass here before and it was really too big for what I needed in this area. (Tumblers are available here: Tumblers.)

Bathroom Glasses, Elegant

After adding all these pretties to my bath, the colorful toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes suddenly stuck out like a sore thumb. Ugh.

Birdie Themed Tissue Box for Bathroom

I had ordered this pretty toothbrush/toothpaste holder shown below (available HERE) and I do like it, but I just kept thinking how awesome it would be if I could make the toothbrushes and toothpaste just disappear. I really didn’t want them to be visible at all. They were totally messing up my aesthetic in this room. Ha!

As I always do when I run into a little conundrum, I started searching online for a solution. I guess I’m not the only one who isn’t overly thrilled about having their toothbrushes and toothpaste out on display because I found the perfect solution! It was as if someone had read my mind!

Toothbrush Holder Hides Toothbrushes

Here’s how this area looks now–no more brightly colored toothbrushes and toothpaste messing up my pretty vignette here in the bathroom.

Best Toothbrush Holder, Hides Toothbrushes and Toothpaste

I am obsessed with this toothbrush/toothpaste holder! Obsessed! It’s designed to hold up to 4 toothbrushes and a large (or small) tube of toothpaste. Since it holds so many toothbrushes, it would easily work in a bathroom that’s being used by more than one person. The center compartment holds any standard size toothpaste tube. A large 6 oz tube of toothpaste fits comfortably, as will two smaller tubes.

I like to use a different toothpaste at night because sometimes mint (which is in almost all toothpaste) will cause my nose to block up, and there’s nothing worse than trying to sleep with a blocked nose. In case you have this issue, this is the toothpaste I use at night: Non-mint Toothpaste.

So, it’s possible to store both the 4.1 oz tube of Crest 3D White that I use in the morning, along with the 3.5 oz tube of non-mint toothpaste that I prefer to use at night in the center compartment. If you buy toothpaste in large tubes, those will fit, as well. I tried a large 6.0 oz Colgate Enamel Heath toothpaste inside and it fit just fine.

Hide Toothbrushes in Bathroom, Toothbrush Holder

The container is designed with ventilation slots along the top and the bottom. I usually dry my toothbrush off before putting it away, but if you don’t do that, it will dry anyway since this container is not airtight and allows for airflow.

This holder takes up very little counter space and I love how it hides the necessary, not-so-attractive stuff that I really don’t want to see on my counter during the day. If you are spiffing up your bathroom and could use one of these, you’ll find it where I purchased mine here: Toothbrush/Toothpaste Holder.

  1. Love it – I hated the toothbrushes out in the open too. Never saw this holder before! When we upgraded the countertops in the main bath last year I had the workers take out the false drawer in front of each sink and had them put those pull out trays in – like you find in front of kitchen sinks. I bought the trays and hardware on Amazon. I love them – hold our toothbrushes, paste, and floss…and tucks away ! But had I know this holder was out there…WOW!

    • Oh, I know what you’re talking about, Ann. I had those pull down compartments in front of the sink in my second home and loved them. I never thought about that for the bathroom…love that idea!

Hm, I’ll admit it looks nice, but I’m thinking germs, if you have other people with their toothbrushes in there, enclosed inside the holder, it’s conducive to passing them around.

    • Maybe if someone is sick they wouldn’t use it, but otherwise, families pass germs around to each other all day, every day by just living in the same house, especially a husband and wife. Newer homes all have separate bathrooms for each bedroom. If I lived in a new home, I’d love to have one in each bathroom.

      • Hubby & I have separate vanities so even though our toothbrushes are separated, I always poor a little Listerine over my brush after using to kill germs. I also use a new toothbrush every 6 mos. which helps to eliminate the possibility of germs.

      • Forgot to add, I love the holder and am going to buy one. Thanks for sharing! Mine lies in a small plaster basket in the drawer but even that’s an open environment for stuff like dust to settle on your brush. I like that you don’t have to worry about that with this container.

I love the idea and it looks great, but storing wet toothbrushes in a dark, enclosed container does not allow them to dry out and it can promote the growth of bacteria. Yikes. Just something to think about.

    • I always dry mine off before I put it back in the container. I don’t place it in there wet. It also has vents at the top and the bottom for ventilation.

  4. Susan, one thing you might consider when you redo your bathroom is a medicine cabinet and the have an outlet installed inside. We use electric toothbrushes and I use an electric face brush. They are out of sight and charging! There are some really pretty medicine cabinets out there.

  5. Looks nice…but…I guess I just dont care that much about the vanity aesthetic! Besides, I, and everyone else in my family, use a Sonicare toothbrush!

  6. That looks sleek. I use steripods for each of my/our individual toothbrushes and I love them. They have what is basically a denture cleanser tablet inside the slip that prevents bacteria from growing on the potentially wet brush. It might even fit inside your holder. Here’s a link to what they look like: https://www.amazon.com/Steripod-Clip-Toothbrush-Protector-Steripods/dp/B005F0IZBQ

  7. Hey Susan! What is the Clinque product and do you recommend it?

    Wendy

  8. Susan, I love those toothbrush holders…what a brilliant idea! Like Rita, I also use the Steripod Protector and would be interested to see if it would fit inside the holder. Might give it a shot. Also, Susan, do you have a link where you got your pretty glass liquid containers? They are also very pretty and well as the tissue box! Love them all!

  9. It’s just a spare, I always have quite a few around. I keep new ones in the guest bath for guests and I change out my own toothbrush about every 3 months, as soon as I notice the bristles starting to spread out. I brush my teeth frequently, usually 4-5 times a day so I go through toothbrushes pretty quickly. I tried the electric ones in the past because my sister used one and liked it and recommended it, but I didn’t care for it. Honestly, it felt like it didn’t do a very good job, at least not as good as I can do with just a normal toothbrush.

  10. I had a toothbrush holder similar to yours. Watch for rust inside.

    • Cindi, what brand was that?

      • I don’t remember. I got it at Lowe’s.

        • Hopefully this won’t do that. It’s a brand that’s usually really good and known for their metal trashcans, so hopefully, that won’t happen. I just bought a second one as a backup in case anything ever happens to this one. I just how it works/looks on my counter in the bath.

  11. I love it. All for pretty. Does the bottom come off to clean it ?
Some years back, I visited a client who had a painted goblet on her desk.
It was her water glass. Why not treat yourself the way you would send a gift ?

    • I so agree, life is short, we have to use the good stuff now! 🙂
The whole section that holds the toothbrushes and toothpaste comes completely out for cleaning and there are big vents at the bottom and the top of the container, so I think you just rinse out the container when needed.

  12. Cyndi Raines says

It’s the little changes that sometimes make a big impact! You did well. My beautiful bird kleenex box came the other day and it is sitting on my dresser. I love it! You are so right about how lovely it is, it is even prettier in person! Now I just need to purchase a box of kleenex for it! Hehe.
