A Little Porch Decorating to Celebrate the Holidays

Happy Weekend to you!

Hard to believe Christmas will be here in just 9 days! I’ve had the porch decorated for a while now, but just haven’t gotten around to sharing photos of how it turned out this year.

Decorate Outside Windows With Wreaths

Probably the biggest change for this year are the benches I added to the porch this past summer.

Porch Decorated for Christmas, Christmas Benches

I never realized how much I would enjoy having them here. They are the perfect spot to sit and open the day’s mail, or a nice place to rest with a glass of iced tea in between my gardening chores.

Christmas Porch Decorating Ideas

I didn’t bother to blow off the leaves because I love how they look scattered across the porch.

Benches for Porch, Decorated for Christmas

I kept things pretty simple this year, no lit topiary trees on the porch, just a few of my faves like the old sled and a couple of new lanterns I found this season.

Reindeer Pillows for Porch Benches

I left the wreath as I found it, choosing to not add any embellishments this year. It smells wonderful each time I open the door to go in and or come out.

Decorate Porch for Christmas with Pine Garland

The other side of the porch is ready for a bit of relaxing and snuggling under a warm woolly blanket.

Traditional Decorations for Christmas Front Porch

Red Christmas Door with Live Wreath and Garland

Hot chocolate is definitely a comfort in the cold weather we’ve been having.

I love these cute tumblers from Starbucks this year. They put them on sale half-price a week or so ago and I purchased one for myself and another as a gift for a friend who likes their drinks. The adorable reindeer cozy came from here: Reindeer Cozy.

Speaking of cozy, Hunter has a lot of their boots and clothing on sale right now, 40% off. I purchased two pairs of boots to give as gifts. My daughter-in-law purchased the Azure blue boots, a gorgeous cobalt blue. It’s an awesome sale and something you don’t see very often. You’ll find the sale here: Hunter Boots 40% Off Sale

Merry Christmas to you, dear Friends!

So appreciate your visits and kind words this past year. YOU are the very best part of blogging, so thanks for being here and reading. I’m so looking forward to 2017! ♥♥♥  Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Love the new lamps they are gorgeous and I wish it was cold here so we could have a rug like yours.

Hope you have a very Happy and Safe Christmas.

  2. not only do I keep things simple…I think this ends up being the most tasteful
overall I have become a minimalist.
Your home decor is pretty, I like the natural undercoated door wreath.

Not sure the purpose of the benches. The stone of your porch is very pretty on its own

  3. Merry Christmas to you! Thanks for all your lovely posts throughout the year that keep us entertained and informed and happy!

  4. Your home always looks beautiful with your wreaths on every window. I enjoy seeing your front porch decorations each year, and this year is just as pretty and cozy. The benches are wonderful and add perfect spots for interesting and warm accessories. I’d love to wrap up in that “bear and ski” blanket. Hot chocolate is a bonus! Merry Christmas!

  5. Beautiful as always! Merry Christmas

  6. You did a wonderful job on your porch. Those benches are the best. You didn’t mention those big vases with the deer heads on them. Are they new or antiques? As I’m admiring all you’ve done I’m staring at this snow laden environment of mine already and realizing how impossible it would be to create this kind of presentation outside my home! I enjoy seeing yours each year and have often found your home come up on the internet while searching for something. The wreaths look fantastic!

  7. My credit card would like to thank you for his visit to Amazon. A few days ago you posted pictures of around the Christmas, showing a vintage truck and car. I could not get the image of that old red truck out of my head. It probably will not arrive here until after Christmas, but I got the last one Amazon had. Thank you.

  8. Love your home decor for Christmas, Susan. Uh oh…seems the reindeer cozy link was broken. waah.

  9. Love your porch and your blog – always inspiring! Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous 2017

  10. I love all of the reindeer on stuff! How cute! Your house looks “mauvelous dahling”!!! Merry Christmas! Hope you have a fantastic time in Ohio!

I just LOVE your front porch, and the red door just makes everything pop! I haven’t written as much as I would like, for various reasons of care-giving and keeping things going here, but I always love it when I can stop in for a peek. I love having seating near my front door, too, and spend much time early mornings sitting there with cozy cushions and pillows. Yours looks so inviting. I do love the natural evergreens without a lot of embellishments. Well done! And a very Merry Christmas to you, Susan, and great Blessings in the New Year!! Love, Jane xoxo

  12. Susan,
The porch and the house look beautiful. I have so enjoyed your blog this year. Thank you for all your delightful decorating and tablescape ideas. Have a wonderful holiday (and a pastry for me at the French bakery in Marietta!).

  13. Your porch is so inviting Susan! I love how you have decorated it, it looks so beautiful. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hugs, Brenda

  16. Absolutely picture perfect and beautiful Susan however if you would like a small dusting of snow I will gladly send you some … 😉 . (It is currently snowing here and we already have over 4″ of it.)
In closing; do hope you have a wonderful Christmas and want to thank you for all your valuable input pertaining to the occasion. Speaking namely for myself; I certainly appreciate all your tips and of course your shopping lists (plus the provision of their links) but more importantly your time and effort it takes to provide them. With warmest holiday hugs. -Brenda-

    • lol That’s okay, I’ll let you keep that white stuff! 🙂
Thanks so much, Brenda! I appreciate all the wonderful comments and advice you’ve offered over this last year!
Stay warm, hope you get just enough to enjoy but not enough to be a problem.

  17. I love all the greenery–so beautiful. Wish I could smell the wreath from here. Those benches are so inviting, even a warm-weather-loving person like me would brave the cold and enjoy them. Hot cocoa and warm cozy throw a must though 🙂

  18. Bunny Rogers says

How pretty! And the lanterns are beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  19. Hi Susan, I found your blog in October this year and am really enjoying it. Your decor is gorgeous and I love what you did on your front porch. Thanks for sharing your ideas and even where you find the things you buy. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  20. Susan, I love your traditional home and Christmas decor…perfectly done! I still love the benches, a perfect 2016 addition! Wishing you a joyous weekend!

    • Thanks so much, Pam! Wish I had thought of them much earlier, have really enjoyed those.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  21. Susan,
Your house and porch look wonderful. Very pretty for the holidays.
I’ve enjoyed all your posts this year. You are such an inspiration.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family,

  22. I really enjoy seeing your porch each Christmas, and each one has been lovely, but I have to say this is my favorite. It just so suits your house style and is so inviting yet somehow understated. Awesome job, and thanks for all the wonderful tips, tours, and eye candy you provide us year long. Merry Christmas!

  23. Super cute porch decorations. You have captured the perfect holiday spirit.

  24. Love your decorations again this year. The porch looks beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and family.

  25. Beautiful as usual! Look forward to all your posts. You have been a blessing and a great inspiration in my life (my husband may say a curse, haha). Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

  26. Just curious where you found the bear ski blanket. I read your posts and love to see how you decorate. Each post is a gift. Mary

    • Thanks so much, Mary! It’s been so long, I can’t remember now where I found it. I’ve had it for about 10-15 years. I just looked to see if there was a tag on it, but as usual, I’ve cut it off at some point. I can’t stand tags on anything so almost always cut them off. Sorry I can’t remember where I found it. I’m pretty sure it was in a local store because back then, I never ordered anything online.

  27. Yvonne Smith says

Susan, I’m a new subscriber and I’m definitely a HUGE fan. You have great taste. I look forward to your posts and I’m excited to see what 2017 will bring.

  28. I certainly enjoy reading your blog thank you for sharing with us

  29. Leah Turner says

Looks great! I watched the Pottery Barn video you posted and tried the big ornament display on my porch, looks great during the day, did have to put a spotlight on it at night because it looked like a black hole on the porch. Video was very good since last year I hung it over the light – not pretty. Love following you merry Christmas

  30. I’m leaving this comment even though I don’t even celebrate Christmas!
I enjoy your blog and really do love your winter porch and all your lovely
    Tablescapes. Kindest thoughts……

  31. Your porch is beautiful! I love the benches.
Thanks for making my 2016 a great year via your blogging and links to many gorgeous things I purchased. You are wonderful.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas Susan. Thanks for all you do. I’m looking forward to our cyber 2017 together! Safe Holidays.

  32. donna zoltanski says

I love your porch – and your new benches are perfect for a hot cuppa tea, coffee, or cocoa – so inviting! Very pretty – Merry Christmas

  33. If I ever get it done, I will take a picture of my porch entrance. It is so much like yours, except my porch seems to go forever beyond the doorway. I move my white benches to either side of the entrance and pile them with pillows and a throw. Unfortunately, last year the sun really did a number on the throw, so I had to say good bye to it. It served me well, it was a very tasteful quilt that was suppose to be hung. You will never guess where I got it! BJ’s, the first year it opened in this area which has to be almost 25 years ago. No could belive that that is where I found it. Now I shop at Costco as my big wharehouse choice. I found lots of new pillows from everywhere this year. I stopped buying a wreath, since a very nice realtor, who help us find renters when we moved to Cincinnati for three
years, has been sending us one, since we came back. It is so fresh and gorgeous, right from a farm in Maine. What are the white jars with raindeer on them? Are they the Lanterns you are referring to? They are so cute. Where did you find them?

  34. Juanita in OH says

The finishing touches on the porch are just like every thing else you do, magnificent! I LOVE the benches and lanterns. You might wake up one morning and find me taking a nap out there, lol. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas and New Year. Thank you for blessing me with your posts all through the year. Peace and great health to you and yours.

  35. bobbi duncan says

Susan, the porch, as always, looks marvelous! Weren’t the benches a great find? Gives you another area to decorate. Doesn’t do me any good up here in Dec. as we just got our 2nd. light dusting of snow, and this one was mixed with ice–wet, soggy items don’t look so great on the porch. Anyhow, I get to enjoy yours, and it always looks divine. Hugs!

  36. Susan, the front of your house looks gorgeous! I love every inch of it. The red front door and the garland are the star of the show! I love your beautiful wreaths on every window. They certainly scream Christmas! Even though I don’t comment very often, I want you to know I love your blog, your stories, your tablescapes and your pictures. You are the best! Can’t wait to see what is in store for 2017. Have a blessed Christmas and New Year to you and your family. xo

    • Thanks so much, Nancie! ♥ I noticed the garland was slipping down a bit after I took all the pictures. Why don’t I notice these thing before I take pics. lol Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas!

  37. Thanks for sharing your porch with us. I keep looking for the boots you use on the porch sometimes. I think I would put a red ribbon on the sled but that’s the only change. Those benches were a good purchase to be loved for years.
    Merry Christmas to all

    • Myrna, so funny you should say that. After I took the pictures, I thought the same thing about the ribbon. I think I used a plaid ribbon one year. The boots would be cute, too. And practical! 🙂 I wish I had added the benches ages ago, they definitely transformed the porch in appearance and function.
Merry Christmas to you, hope you have a wonderful one!

  38. Susan, we’re leaving for OH Monday from Memphis. That is, providing the weather is OK. We’re under a tornado watch here tonight and are expecting sleet tomorrow morning! Really?? It’s going to be some kind of cold in OH. Hope we all don’t freeze! But the babies make it all worthwhile, don’t they? Have a very Merry Christmas! Your porch looks fabulous, BTW!

    • I know, my dil warned me in a text to dress warmly. I’m not looking forward to the OH cold. I’ll be wearing long underwear the entire visit, I’m sure. lol Have fun, Martha!

      • Leaving tomorrow, and my long underwear is right on top! Lots of warm socks and lots of layers, too! You have a wonderful Christmas with your little ones!

  39. Diane Dixon says

Susan, Your house looks so pretty inside and out with its Christmas finery. I often say to myself…I saw that in April.

  40. Cyndi Raines says

Great job on the porch. Like it! This must be the year for keeping things simple which is what I’ve done this year, have really only put out half of what I usually do, but the Christmas china was a must. haha. Actually, it’s a little refreshing and Lord knows I need it! Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration you’ve given this past year. Looking forward to more in 2017!

  41. Your entry is festive, lovely and welcoming. Perfect for Christmas!! Thank you for another wonderful year of BNOTP, Susan. I start my day looking for your post, and you never disappoint. Enjoy your holidays, and if you are traveling, do so safely, and enjoy yourself!! Rosie

  42. Absolutely lovely! Enjoyy this holiday season!

  43. Love it ! Nice job!

  44. Susan, are your Hunter boots red or bright coral? Did you dil get the tall boots or the short ones? My daughter is trying to decide on color, shiny/flat, tall or short!

    • Mine are the “original, tall, gloss” boots and the color I went with is called “Military Red.” It’s nice true red, very much like my front door. I love the shiny, gloss finish but they also make it in a more matte finish. It comes in a ton of colors! I’d like to get a pastel color this spring…maybe one of the pale pinks or pale blues.

  45. I love your porch and the new benches!
    Shelley

  46. I love how real the greens look! I remember back in the day, the fake greens always looked so… fake but these are just stunning and will last you for many years in your new home. Can’t wait to see your other Christmas decorations! Hugs, Holly

    • Thanks, Holly! Actually, everything is live/real. The wreath came from a garden nursery and the garland from a local farmer’s market. I always love using live garland and a live wreath although the garland was hard to find this year.

  47. Love your porch and especially the black benches, so classic. Red rain boots; I’ll be opening those up on Christmas morning .. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  48. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog! I really look forward to it and love your ideas and taste!
Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!!

  49. Kevin Reilly says

Love your porch. Where did you purchase the benches.
