Valentine’s Day Table Settings, Napkin Folds & Recipes

Welcome to the 332nd Tablescape Thursday!

Before we get into this week’s Tablescape Thursday, I just wanted to say you guys are GOOD! It didn’t take long for you to name every single one of the books yesterday! Can you imagine being the person who designed the Quotes throw. I don’t know how they ever decided what books to feature, that would have been torture!

Saving At Checkout

I also wanted to share something I learned a couple of years ago, something I wish I had known way sooner. Whenever you are about to order something online, Google “coupon for XXX” filling in X with the name of the store where you’re shopping. Have you ever noticed when you’re buying something online, almost always there’s a box on the checkout page that says “coupon” or “promo code” or something similar? If you take a second and Google for a coupon, you will often find quite a few online sites with coupons for the store in which you’re shopping.

For example, while writing yesterday’s post, I visited the Barnes and Noble site to see if they still had the Quotes throw available. While there I saw another throw I really liked. I Googled to see if there were any coupons online to use and immediately found a 20% off coupon at the site, Retail Me Not. (see below) I tried the coupon and it did work! Thinking back now, I’m pretty sure that’s how I got the price down from $39 to $33 when I purchased the Quotes throw; I bet I used a coupon I found online because I always do a search for one before I order anything.

Sometimes you won’t find one when you Google, but more often than not, I’ve found there’s almost always one online that will at least give you free shipping. So if you decide you need a Quotes throw or anything else from Barnes and Noble, use the code I found and added to yesterday’s post, or Google to see if you can find an even better one. Anyone else ever do this, Google for a coupon before buying online? It’s amazing how often it works!

Tablescape Thursday

With Valentine’s Day only a couple of weeks away, I thought I’d share some previous ♥ table settings from years past. Some are romantic and some are just plain fun. One took its inspiration from a book we saw quoted on the throw yesterday. Did you recognize the source of “Curiouser and curiouser?” I know several folks recognized that one. 🙂

Click on the title or on the picture below to view that Valentine’s Day tablescape or tutorial in detail.

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address.

To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate.

That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.)

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared for a previous Tablescape Thursday.

Beautiful ideas for Valentine’s Day, Susan! Thank you so much for hosting Tablescape Thursday–I hope you have a sunny weekend!

  2. Did you EVER think you would be saying the word “GOOGLE” so many times in your lifetime?? I STILL find it amazing!! franki

  3. All of these tables are beautiful, Susan. Even when you set a fun table, it turns out to be a beautiful table. Thank you for hosting.

    • Thanks, Laurie…appreciate that! Shhh, don’t tell anyone but I like the fun ones a lot more than the dressy ones. I think I’m a kid stuck in a grown up body. 😉

  4. Love all your Valentine’s tablescapes. They are so pretty. This year I am doing a cherub theme table. I am anxiously waiting for this large cherub I ordered on line. Also have silver cherub napkin rings. It is so much fun planning the table. You are always coming up with something unique and beautiful. I just love your blog! You are a lady with a new idea cooking all the time.

  5. Thanks for the coupon tips Susan! And your Alice in wonderland table is one of my all time favorites! Valentine’s Day is just so happy and fun! Have a great weekend~

  6. I have another online shopping trick, but it only works if you log-in with the website and they know your correct email. Then put what you want in a cart/shopping bag, but don’t buy it. I almost always get a follow-up email from them telling me my selections are still available and they offer a discount if I will buy them within a certain time period. I also Google for coupons and if nothing comes up, then I Google for free shipping codes. I ALWAYS save money! It’s against my religion to pay full price for anything! 😉

  7. So exciting to see these beautiful tablescapes. I adore them. I too love Alice in Wonderland. Sweet!

  8. Absolutely beautiful! What a talent you have! So glad you share it with all of us! Regarding ordering on-line, if you don’t already, check out Ebates! I really enjoy getting my “big fat check”! I’ll send you the link if you don’t use it already. Nothing better than to be rewarded to shop online!

  9. Thanks for hosting! Terrific V’s Day t’scapes!

  10. Beautiful and romantic Valentine’s Day tables, Susan. Thanks for hosting…Christine

Susan, I can’t keep up with all your posts! You’re so prolific these days.

I too can attest to the success of the online coupon. I too also wish I had figured it out sooner, lol. D’oh! I’ve had the most success with RetailMeNot, as you mentioned. Some of the other sites simply aren’t as good at providing current coupons that actually work. And there seem to be some sites that never have coupon discounts, like Wafair, as an example. 🙁 But for a lot of sites there is often at least one coupon or offer that saves you money and that’s always good!

Thanks for the Valentine’s inspiration. Oh!!! I just remembered, yesterday I was browsing around on youtube and stumbled upon tablescapes. Who knew? Anyway, I watched one short video that featured Thanksgiving tablescapes and guess whose dining room and beautiful tablescapes were featured … TWICE?!! That’s right … I was sitting there watching these still pictures of tablescapes and up pops your beautiful Georgia dining room, Venetian mirror and all, beautifully dressed and I thought … Haha, I know that dining room!! And then a few seconds later, another view with the table dressed differently came up. Soo fun! 😀 Susan, aren’t you amazed at how many people around the world you have touched through your blog? I was just chatting with a woman in Scotland who says your blog is one of her favorites! That must make you feel so good. 😀

    • I’ve noticed that…seems like it’s usually RetailMeNot where they actually have a decent coupon. What I don’t like is when you click on it and it tells you that there isn’t a coupon and the discount is already at the site…meaning they are just promoting the sales that are already at the store.
Well, that doesn’t make me happy that they are posting pictures on YouTube without asking first. 🙁 If you see it again, let me know so I can see who it is.
I am amazed every day at the beautiful people I meet and who stop by to visit. Feel so blessed! Take nothing for granted! 🙂

      • pam ~ crumpety cottage says

You know, it’s funny you say that because I did mention that in my comment but then went back and removed it ~ that the coupon sites will sometimes try to trick you into thinking there is a big coupon, only to take you directly to the site for their ongoing sale. Grrr.

I did a quick check on youtube, and the video was the first one that came up when I searched, “Thanksgiving Tablescapes.” It’s a very short video, less than 1:30. And I’m glad you don’t take anything for granted. You could probably travel all over the world now and meet ‘friends’ you’ve met through the blog. That really is a blessing. 🙂 Take care.

  12. Thanks for the tip about the coupons. I’ll now make a habit of that. And of course, you always have the most gorgeous tablescapes!
    Brenda

  13. Thank you so much for the coupon code. I’ve ordered the throw for my daughter and used the code, and saved $7 bucks. You are the best!

  14. I googled vouchers for an online sphop I use (in Australia) & up it came, with a alert service, so they’re going to alert me! How good is that. Thanks

  15. I use retailmenot also. And I’ve left things in my online cart and got a reminder to complete the purchase, but never got a follow-up message with a discount. Boo. On another note: I know red is traditional for Valentine’s Day, but I’m all red-out from the recent holidays. I would like to see some tablescapes with something like magenta or deep rose. I liked all of yours above–so varied–but liked the pink one best.

    • Yeah, the only online company I can think of that’s sent me a discount after I left something in my basket was L.L. Bean. I kept eyeing their cream Heritage flannel sheets (already had the plaid ones but needed the cream after I redid my bedding to a plaid this winter). They sent me a 10% off code and they had free shipping going on, so I finally did order them. I refuse to pay shipping. I’ve noticed that Nordstrom has gone the way of Zappos and shipping is free now, as are returns. Love that! Maybe eventually all the stores will start offering it. I think they would sell a whole lot more if they did.
You’re too cute about being all red out. Hang in there, spring is coming! I can’t wait! 🙂

  16. Lovely tables and thanks for the tip!

  17. Hi Susan, I linked up my one and only Valentine tablescape post I have… it is a repeat from last week, hope that’s ok? Thanks for hosting! great ideas! Liz http://www.HometoCottage.com

  18. I love all the romantic tables, specially the one with the cards, wow!
Thank you for the great party.
    Blessings,

  19. I was going to tell you the same thing as Kelly about leaving things in your cart. Thanks so much for continuing to host TT! I love your party! have a beautiful weekend. It is snowing here:(

Suson this comment doesn’t have anything to do with your latest post, which btw is lovely but as I was trying to find an older post and was clicking on your pages at the bottom of all your other posts, the pages does not go past page 19 and then it jumps from 2014 back to 2012. Just FYI. I follow all your posts and I love your blog although I don’t always leave a comment. I did not know if anyone else has brought this to your attention. I love to go back and get tutorials or recipes. Thank you for your blog. Respectively, Norma

    • Thanks, Norma…it definitely shouldn’t do that. I’ll get my tech guy to check it out. Thanks for letting me know!

    • Norma, I forgot to ask if I could help you find the post. One thing you might try or find helpful until we can get the pagination straightened out is the search feature at the top of the sidebar on the right. See where it says Subscribe, About, FAQ, Contact and Search. Click on “Search” and then type a couple of words to search…like “soup recipe” or whatever it is. I use that search feature all the time myself to find an older post and it works pretty well. Also, you may want to try using the categories across the top. I just emailed the person who does work on my site for me so hopefully he can figure out what’s going on. Thanks again for letting me know! XO

  21. Hi Susan,

Okay, this is the year I must have the white feather Valentine tree. Where did you get it? Where should I look? When I Google it really spindly trees show up. Thanks! Alley

  22. Connie Callahan says

I would love to know where you got that beautiful white feather tree. Wow, it makes quite a statement. I would love to have one. Your blog is wonderful.
