Visual Motivation Tools to Help Me Reach My Goals

Welcome to the 685th Metamorphosis Monday!

Happy Monday! Did you weather the time change okay this weekend? Are you loving these longer daylight hours? I do like the longer days but I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night–but then, I pretty much have that problem every night. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a night owl. My sister was the exact same way. Left to our own doing, we could easily stay up working until 2:00 AM, then sleep until 10:00 AM. Any other night owls out there?

For this week’s Met Monday, I am sharing something I just ordered that is actually arriving today. I don’t remember how I came across it, but I instantly loved the idea. It’s a colorful way to keep track of goals or habits you are trying to incorporate into your life. It could be anything from drinking more water during the day to exercising or just setting a goal to go to bed earlier at night. I especially love how it creates a clear, visual picture showing which goals have been accomplished for the day. I think that visual display will help keep me more motivated. This particular calendar below creates a spiral pattern as you complete and color in each day’s goal. It’s available here: Habit and Goal Tracking Calendar.

After looking at a bunch of the trackers available online, I ended up going with this one below. It looked like it would be a bit easier to read, though I do love the look of the spiral design above. I had a hard time choosing which one to go with, but ultimately I went with the one below that shows the pattern in a straight line. Kinda wish I had done the spiral one now. Argggh. The one I ordered below (that’s arriving today) is available here: Goal and Habit Tracking Calendar. The spiral one above is available here: Habit and Goal Tracking Calendar.

I also ordered this water bottle below that helps track how much water you’ve consumed during the day. I had been doing really well with drinking a lot of water during the day, but I realized Saturday evening that I had not had any water the entire day and had only been drinking iced coffee and iced tea. That’s not good. So I ordered this 64oz water tracker bottle below–it should be arriving today, too. I love how it provides a visual display of how much water has been consumed throughout the day. (Water bottle below is available here: Water Tracker Bottle.)

Not sure why the inside container looks dark in the photo above since it’s supposed to be this color. Maybe they just made it look that way for the photo so the writing on the bottle would be visible.

It comes in a bunch of pretty designs!

I had a hard time choosing which one to go with. I may end up ordering a second one at some point because all the patterns are so pretty! Never hurts to have a spare, right? You can see all the various designs it comes in here: Water Tracker.

Ultimately, I went with this cute lemon design available here: Water Tracker. There’s a pocket on the side of the cover for holding cash, a credit card, or a cellphone. That would come in handy on walks or working out in a gym where you want to keep your cell phone nearby. I doubt I’ll use the pocket since I’ll probably just be using this water tracker bottle at home.

I’ll have to share a progress report in a month or so to let you know if my habit tracker calendar and my new water bottle are keeping me on track with my goals. I really love these visuals and think they will help push me toward whatever goals I set for myself–like getting more sleep, drinking more water, etc…

Looking forward to all the wonderful Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday!

  1. Hi Susan,
Used your link to order one of these bottles in black color for relative in Guam. Decided to buy for an aging family member who just doesn’t get thirsty – so critical to stay hydrated so blood doesn’t get sluggish.
Good luck with your colorful tracker.

    • I hope it helps! Yes, def important to keep that body hydrated! I thought mine was coming today but it’s actually tomorrow. Looking forward to using it.

  2. I hear you on the night-owl business. I’m not an early morning person. at all. Thanks for having us over Susan. Love those water bottles!

  3. Wow you have taken being super organized to another level! I hope you schedule some relaxation time into your busy days 🙂 Thanks for the party Susan and enjoy your new cute water bottle!

  4. Thank you, again, for all your product research! I ordered both the tracker and the bottle. I ordered the same tracker you did. For me, it will be easier to see my progress and see if I’ve missed a task if the chart is in a straight line. Visually I think the spiral is prettier! But I know me, if it’s not super use to use…I won’t!!!!!

    • I know, I love how the spiral one looks as it grows, too but I think it would be tricky trying to stay on the correct line. Peggy, let me know how you do. I’m going to start mine tomorrow. I would have started it today but I got sick this afternoon so didn’t feel like doing anything.

  5. Susan, I don’t know how you find these things! But I love the idea of both of these items. I’m definitely going to order the habit tracker. And I love the pretty options on the water bottle, but drinking water isn’t an issue for me. Besides, that thing holds half a gallon! It looks so pretty, but I imagine it’s going to be a beast. I’ll be curious to hear what you say about the size and if it’s comfortable to carry around. Even if it isn’t, just keeping it in the fridge and knowing you want to finish it will help I bet.

Thanks for the good tips! And btw, no, I did not weather the time change very well, lol. I HATE daylight savings. I know I might be in the minority, but I don’t like it when it’s light outside at 9:00 p.m. I don’t think it’s good for our circadian rhythms. I like to have some darkness for a while before I go to sleep. But I know the government likes to keep the days long so people will continue to shop and spend money. I too am a natural night owl, but over the years I’ve trained myself to go to sleep earlier. Still not early – early, but earlier than you! Lol.

We had snow this weekend, but today is a beautiful, early Spring day. Yay!! I hope it’s beautiful where you are too.

    • I won’t be carrying it around, although it can be carried with the strap. I bought it for my office. It holds eight, 8 ozs glasses of water which is the recommended daily amount that everyone should at least drink each day. That’s why it holds 64 ozs. It’s big enough to hold ice in addition to the water so I’m going to keep it on my desk, otherwise, I’d forget about it. Also, the cover keeps it from sweating on the desk–love that. Glad your snow is over and you’re seeing some sun! It’s gorgeous here today, too–sunny and I’m loving it!

  6. I can’t stand the time change. It messes with my internal alarm clock and makes me grumpy. Just stop it, one way or another, pick a time and keep it. It cost the nation so much money – it’s stupid. Can you tell I’m still adjusting? I don’t see many posts on IG, do you post there on the reg?

    • I can see how it does that, especially if you’re really good at sticking to a set time getting up and going to bed. My body stays confused so I don’t think I notice as much as some people would. I’ve seen several posts on IG about it, too. I haven’t been posting very much for several reasons. When I post, they don’t let all the folks who follow see the posts. That happens on Facebook, as well. Facebook wants Bloggers to pay to have their posts seen and it’s pretty expensive. Not sure why they don’t share posts with all the people who follow but a lot of people complain about it. I’m not giving up on posting there, just frustrated with how it works.

  7. Theresa M McDaniel says

I am up early no matter what time I go to bed. I try to stay in bed till 5:30am my son gets up at 4 am when. I was working full time sometimes I got up before my husband went to bed.

  8. Cyndi Raines says

Yes, I’m a nightowl as you can tell from the time I am posting this.lol If I have to get up early for something fun, I can do it, but I seem to gain more energy as the day wears on. When I am camping, I do like to see the sunrise, but only if I haven’t sat up all night by the campfire, lol. Hope the tracker helps you with your goals. I too have noticed lately I haven’t been drinking as much water as I normally do, so I need to get back on track. Like that water bottle, but I have enough. Just need to fill one and get drinking!

  9. Such a great way to keep track of your habits! We use the motivational water bottle now and it’s been a total game-changer – the visual reminder is super helpful. Thanks so much for hosting, I hope you’re having a great week, CoCo
