A Thanksgiving Table Setting with Spode Woodland

Welcome to the 14th Tablescape Tuesday!

Recently I had a “china” panic attack! A china panic attack is what happens when you hear or read that a particular china manufacturer is trying to sell their business because they are fast headed in the direction of closing their doors. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of that type news going around these days.

The company I heard about was Spode and my little panic attack was due to the fact I have been drooling for some time over a particular china made by Spode…and I suddenly had visions of it becoming unavailable. Now I’ve never done anything illegal, well at least knowingly…but if there’s a black market for china, I might just cross that line! 🙂 This recent Spode news sent me scurrying to purchase a china they make called “Woodland.”

Hope you enjoy this Thanksgiving tablescape set with Spode, Woodland.

Thanksgiving Table Setting with Spode Woodland

Since Woodland is all about animals, particularly “game” animals, I decided to go with a woodland/hunt feel in this tablescape.

Thanksgiving Table Setting

For a centerpiece, I used cuttings from the Leyland Cypress and Fire Power Nandina I have growing in my yard. I placed the cypress and nandina in a cache pot I had.

Thanksgiving Table Setting

The pheasants were the only thing new that I purchased for this tablescape, well…except for the china. 🙂 I enjoy the challenge of trying to put together a tablescape that has a completely different feel from any tablescape I’ve done previously, but without having to spend a lot of money on the decorative pieces.

Thanksgiving Table Setting

You may recognize Mr. Duck from my family room post and my recent Trim the Tree Thursday post. He’s sitting on a small wooden box I bought years ago. I love to collect old boxes.

This vintage pheasant plate is usually in another room, but I thought it looked nice here on the sideboard for this tablescape.

Thanksgiving Table Setting

The Spode Woodland salad plate shows a male and female Red Grouse…

Thanksgiving Table Setting

The dinner plate depicts a male and female pheasant…

Thanksgiving Table Setting

The bread plate shows a male and female snipe…

Thanksgiving Table Setting

The cup depicts a quail…I think it’s a male…

Thanksgiving Table Setting

A snipe is inside the tea cup…wonder why they didn’t put a female quail in there?

Thanksgiving Table Setting

And the saucer shows a rabbit running along through a field…

Thanksgiving Table Setting

I sprinkled some cinnamon-scented pine cones here and there. Then it dawned on me what nice placecard holders pine cones make.

That china is beautiful! Of course, I won’t ever get it if Spode is closing it’s doors. I love their Christmas china too.

I too learned that I will have to happen upon a jackpot before I get any of the Herend China patterns. I love looking you and the linked tablescapes each Tuesday. I am so thankful that I am not the only one obsessed with how a table should look. I am working on Thanksgiving as we speak. I have to finish ironing the napkins tonight and then work on the dining room mantle at my grandmothers. Then tomorrow and Weds I shall work like a busy bee.
    Have a wonderful Holiday weekend.
    Newlywed Hostess

Wow Susan I love the wall color! What a classic shade of true red. Your chandelier is magnificent as well. A stunning display for TT. It was just brought to my attention that I have my flatware placed wrong on my post. I know I knew better I just wasn’t thinking. UMM, “BOTH” times I’ve participated. I’m a bit embarrassed but I know I can’t redo it all and take new pics as suggested. I will just have to laugh at myself and leave a note on my post. Thanks for the nice comments tonight. ~Melissa

Good morning Susan…Now you know you are going to cause me to go out and seek more of this wonderful pattern. I have a post with a variety of tablescapes (past). Forgot to e-mail the link.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment on my angst over my son flying back to college after Thanksgiving break. I know that you know what I am going through this year – I am sorry that your son is far away from home too. I am trying to fill my time with my new church family and in the Spring I will be starting up my college courses again to get into the nursing program. It is now MY turn to find out who I am!
I have a post planned for tomorrow that you might be interested in – it involves the “Classy Flea” and a recent find there. 🙂

    Hi Susan,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. That darn Hashimotos is difficult, isn’t it? Lately I’ve added bioidentical progesterone and Vitamins B and D too. And I’m feeling much better.
The Spode rumor is scary! Just this spring, I wanted to order more of my Spode Tower Pink and discovered they discontinued it!!! I kicked myself for DAYS over that one: why didn’t I order last winter, why didn’t I keep closer tabs on it, why, why, why?
Anyway, your Woodland tablescape is gorgeous. And let’s hope Spode never goes out of business.
    ~Laura

  72. Susan, I was looking for inspiration for a table scape using my Keltcraft Pursuit hunt plates and found this oldie but goodie. This is such a lovely inspiring tablescape. I just love it.

  73. Where did you get the wood pheasants decorating the table? I too am searching for the best deal on the Woodland series and think I’ve found it.

  74. Absolutely gorgeous!
