Winter Table Setting with Swarovski Crystal Ornament Centerpiece

Welcome to the 12th Tablescape Tuesday!

Let’s celebrate the approach of the holiday season with a tablescape that has the feel of a snowy evening. I’ve dimmed the lights and lit the candles…so glad you’ve stopped by this chilly winter night.

Winter Tablescape with Swarovski Crystal Ornament Centerpiece (Between Naps on the Porch)
The centerpiece for our winter-scape is a silver “tree” covered in 17 Swarovski crystal ornaments. I’ve been collecting them since 1991, when Swarovski created the first ornament in this collection. Each year Swarovski alternates the style of the ornament…producing a snowflake ornament one year and a star ornament the next. I’m always amazed that they can come up with a new design each year.

Winter Tablescape with Swarovski Crystal Ornament Centerpiece (Between Naps on the Porch)

The first year I started the collection, I hung the ornament on our regular live Christmas tree. By the second year, I realized how easy it would be to accidentally toss a crystal ornament right out with the tree. So I bought a little silver tree for this collection and boy, did those two little ornaments look pitiful hanging on that tree all alone that second year. It’s been fun adding one little ornament at a time each year and gradually watching the tree fill up. I actually had to purchase a second tree two years ago, as the first little tree became full…scary how quickly the years do pass.

The china is Colburn by Noritake and the sterling flatware is King Richard by Towle. This was the china and sterling pattern I chose as a bride-to-be back in 1978. I still love both, after all these years.

The Colburn pattern is a soft blue and gray…just perfect for a winter tablescape.

Icy crystal salt cellars continue the wintery feel.

The crystal I chose to go with the Colburn china so many years ago is by Lenox. It has an etched design around the upper half and a platinum rim that coordinates nicely with the Colburn china.

A little hard to photograph the etched design…can you see it?

Reindeer, all dressed in silver…

…they give this tablescape a whimsical feel…and every table needs a touch of whimsy, don’t you think? 🙂

A few more close-ups…

Added some sparkly snow drifts around the base of the ornament tree.

I placed a glittery silver ornament at each place setting. Thought they would make wonderful little gifts for dinner guests to take home…a little reminder of a night spent dining among snowflakes, stars and silvery reindeer.

Hope you enjoyed this winter themed tablescape. Please take time to visit and comment on the tablescapes posted on the blogs listed at the top of this posting. You are sure to come away with lots of new ideas for your own holiday tables.

  6. Susan, This is so beautiful!!! WOW!!! I collect Swarovski ornaments too, but mine hang on a small artificial tree on the sideboard. I think I’ll look for a silver tree like yours!!! :0} Diane

Yes, just lovely! The tree is just wonderful! Your china is beautiful, My china, I got as a gift from where I worked the whole set and serving pieces. The day before we got married, teenager was moving things for me and did a spin out and out went my china, I have a cup and a plate. That was 1977, so now I decided it was time to have china, so I am collecting the Old Country Roses off Ebay. The deer are so cute, I love the ornament, yes I think I could use a few for my chandlier! have a great day its 1:45 am here, been one of those sleepless nights. So I hope I will be sleeping in! Drink a cup of tea for me!

So elegant! I can hear the jingle of bells now! Stop by my blog…it’s giveaway time!
    Blessings!

  11. Like Ceekay and Lana G!, I am very attracted to the candle holders. Your centerpiece is enough to spur any collector. What a treasure.
Your choice of your wedding china, flatware, and glassware shows that you were literally born with good taste, for it to be demonstrated at such a tender age as when you married in 1978.

  12. This is incredible. I wouldn’t know how to act sitting at a table set like this, it is truely beautiful.

    Hugs,
    Chris

  13. Oh Susan…how do you do it…each & every one of your tablescapes are perfection! This one is especially elegant…I could just sit & stare at it! 😉 Bo

Ahh ! magnificient ! Everything tastes better on a beautiful table.

  20. At my age, living in a ‘snow belt’ region (Canada) I hate to even think about ice ‘n snow; however your tablescape made them very enchanting. 🙂

Thanks you so much Susan for mentioning where you purchased the ornament tree, as while reading I was wondering where you got it. (I’m still trying to track down something similar that Crate ‘n Barrel carried two years ago which isn’t/wasn’t near as elaborate as the one pictured here.)

Wishing you a beautiful day! Hugs

  21. Such EYE candy….Thanks for the wonderful inspiration! Sigh, Lori

  22. Cathy Miller says

Gorgeous! The crystal ornaments are stunning. I love this tablescape! Thanks so much for inspring us all!!

  23. Hi again Susan. I checked out the Ross and Simons site and found the tree, but in your opinion what size of decorations would be suitable?
The tree is 25″ in height, so I am just trying to determine the appropriate scale. ie: They feature two different sizes of snowflakes.
    Thanks!!!!

  24. I can’t thank you enough for listing where you purchased the ornament tree from. This is so beautifully elegant and I love it!!!

  25. Susan (Moonlight and Magnolias on RMS) says

Mrs. Ben: I just measured the Swarovski ornaments and the largest one measures 3″ x 3″, but some of them are just a bit smaller…maybe more like 2 1/2″. But since they are crystal, they don’t “appear” to be that large to the eye. I definitely wouldn’t go larger than 3″. Hope that helps. Love to see what you do! 🙂 Susan

  34. GM Susan, Your table reminds me of something one might see in the crystal ice palace in Sweden. I saw a show on it and when I viewed your table that was the first they I thought of. You truly captured the feeling of a crystally, icey snow flake table. I love it!

  35. Love it, but I can’t help but think how gorgeous that would be in the dining room with the rich color and other touches that I won’t reveal until you do.

  36. Absolutely beautiful! You really carried through your theme in a magical way. Sally

  37. Beautiful winter table setting. I enjoy all the elements you useed to create the setting.

I have the same silver ornament tree from Ross Simons. I used it in my office to display the set of annual ornaments put out by the college. Each one depicts a building on campus. Lately I’ve used it for nativity ornaments.

I did a TT post last night:

  38. Susan, My entertaining is a much more casual style, but it was more formal back in the late 60’s and into the 70’s. Unforunately I lost ‘custody’ of my Noritake china when I took leave of ‘my previous life’! No worries, as my current life has been wonderful, albiet more casual and spontaneous, for the last 25 years. My Noritake was silver trimmed with a tone on tone dainty white pattern. Now I look forward to my Grandmother’s fine china that my Mom has willed me when she is gone. At 91, she is still going strong so I am not holding my breath… 🙂 I agree with Sally and Ann. Your tables ARE magical and you really should do a tablescape book. Think of the sales you would have just from your friends! Hugs, Jan

  39. Breath taking. I’m going to look up the sites you mentioned online.. You have the touch. Thanks for all you do both creating Tablescapes and sharing.
    Nanette

  40. Oh, dear Susan, you’ve done it again! Your table is truly stunning! Those little crystal ornaments are darling and who would think, but you, to use the little tree as a centerpiece. Those reindeer candlesticks are so beautiful, your china, stemware and flatware. Thanks for a beautiful post!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  42. Miss Janice says

Susan, this is gorgeous. The noritake china, towle flatware, and lenox stemware all work together to create a classic setting. The crystals and the lighting help to make it magical! You did an awesome job. Thank you for hosting this fun event.

  49. Oh Susan, I think this is one of your most beautiful tables. And you must have gotten married when you were 10! The chargers rock. I have some crystal snowflakes (different brand), but I’d never thought of putting them on a small tree. Would have been wise b/c some have chipped. Great idea!

  50. So elegant and beautiful!!!!! Love the bling of the Swarovski stars and snowflakes and I like how they have the year attached to them. The silver tree, the reindeer candle holders, stemware, silverware and the china are all wonderful. Truly a winter wondertable!….Christine

  67. imjacobsmom says

Susan, this is another beautiful table. It is so elegant, yet whimsical with all of the ornaments and reindeer. I may have to borrow your idea and order one of those trees to hang crystal ornaments. I have a whole collection of Waterford ornaments that i bought each year since Jacob was born – so now this year I will have 14! ~ Robyn

  68. So pretty! I love the crystal ornaments! The winter/icy looks is enchanting!

  69. Rosey Owings says

WOW! is not enough of a good word for this gorgeous tablesetting!! I have been looking for something for my dining room for an after-Christmas-Winter/New Year’s Theme and VOILA; here it is! I have an assortment of snowflake ornaments but they’re not Swarovski although we had been stationed in Germany in the ’80’s & should have gotten some then (boohoo). Anyway, I tweeked my decor a little by hanging my assortment of ornaments from my Italian chandelier that I bought in Murano!! Also, don’t have the adorable silver reindeer (will have to work on that for next year?) but decided to use 3 of my snow covered churches as a centerpiece in the middle of the table. Then surronded them witl white netting for snow and an assortment of white candles in crystal & silver candleholders. My china is also from the ’70’s (I married in 1974) and I still love it. Its “Twilight Dell” by Oxford which has been bought out by Lenox, sterling silver is “Country Manor” by Towle and my crystal is “First Lady” by Gorham (it has a silver rim which goes well with my china). I still haven’t mastered doing pictures but I think its pretty and my hubby gave it an “oooooooh wow!” so I’m good with that!! Oh, I also have a couple of snowglobes that I am using as well. They are both off white; one has an angel inside the globe & the other has a group of Victorian singers inside also in off white. Put those on top of the curio/china cabinet in our dining room. Thank you so very, very much for your lovely ideas and I wish you a most Blessed New Year in Christ!!

  70. I love the ornament tree, I went to Ross simon website but didn’t see it anywhere, did you get it recently? my sister and I both collect the snowflakes and we are looking for a way to display them as they don’t show up very well on the tree. if you can help me find it I would be grateful

    • No, unfortunately I purchased many years ago. Maybe if enough folks asked Ross Simon to bring them back, they will. A lot of folks do ask about it so I think they would sell if they brought them back again. If you ever see them again, let me know and I’ll announce it on the blog since so many folks have asked about them.

    • I just googled “silverplate ornament trees” and this site came up. I don’t know anything about the company but this one is very similar to the ones I have. http://jewelrybymarks.com/orn_tree.html

  71. I love this setting! My bridal China was also Noritake- Magnificence. I like the silver ornament idea, that is such a nice idea!
