You’re Invited to a Tea Party!

Recently, I received some delightful pictures of a tea held by Meg, a reader of BNOTP. Meg was originally born in England but now lives in Canada. She wrote to me and said, “I recently gave a British afternoon tea for six friends, including cream horns for which I bought the molds from England last year.”

Meg told me the she went with a teacup theme and the cloth napkins were held by wooden teapots. Love it!

Meg said, “The china is a German set by JL Menau, it was gifted to me, so do not have any more details.”

As you can see, these photos were taken of the table before the food was in place.

Here’s how it looked once Meg filled the serving dishes. Meg told me, “I baked everything myself.” Amazing! I would loved to have been present for this tea. Look at those cream horns and blueberry scones!

The sideboard was set for this festive occasion, too.

Meg, thanks so much for sharing these photos of your wonderful tea! Your friends must have loved every minute at this beautiful table!

See you this evening for Metamorphosis Monday!

  12. Oh how gorgeous. It is warminjg to my heart to see such a lovely spread and reminds me of my childhood. Being a Pom living in New Zealand, it is good to see my fellow Poms keeping up the tradition of afternoon tea so far from Home..

My daughter who is 15 in April has asked me if she can have her birthday party as an English tea party.. So lets hope the next generation still keep up the "Oh so civilised" ritual. Luckily I have enough China to host a party for hoards after I spent a year collecting a complete mismatched (or as I am led to believe by an antique dealer frind of mine, an "eclectic") set.

  13. Hello Susan,
Meg did a perfect job. Everything looks fine and delicious. Would love to join such a party.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Greetings, Johanna

  16. You know…I see items on this beautiful tablescape, like the two-tier serving plates, that look identical to some of the random pieces that my Grandmother gave me…and I think, "Why are these packed away instead of using them?!" I'm digging them out for Easter! Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing your tea party with us! Debi

Do you know where she got the place card holders? I am hosting a Bridal Tea for a friend of mine and would LOVE to have them!

  18. This may sound silly, but one thing I especially like about Meg's table is that it she has kept things simple toward the center, so guests can see each other and converse freely! It's just simple and beautiful, and the food looks WONDERFULLY delicious!
