Fun Stuff Worth Sharing: Part II

Sometimes I think these are the most fun posts.  I’ve accumulated all these tidbits and ideas to share with you, but somehow I just never found the right day or time to do so.  So here they are, all lumped together.  I dare say, there’s something in here for everyone.

Before Christmas I found this cute little deer door hanger at Lowes for $9.99.  He ended up out here on the porch.

I decided to leave this wreath up for a while.  It may look a bit Christmasy but I don’t mind.  To me it says winter.

And besides, I am still enjoying this silly guy.

He may end up in my  “hunt themed” family room HERE once winter is over…maybe for a wreath on the door to the porch.

Last year I spent a ridiculous amount on a calendar from one of the local office supply stores.  Determined to not do that again this year, I stopped by Dollar Tree and look what I found.

These will be perfect for keeping up with my blogging schedule, personal schedule and other important dates.  The small red one is for logging down mileage expense.  So if you’re in need of a 2012 calendar, these aren’t fancy but they’ll get the job done for only $1.

Of course, you know I had to check out the glassware while I was there.  Do these look familiar?

If you liked how they looked in this tablescape, apparently Dollar Tree still has them in. (Tablescape can be viewed HERE.)

I also used them in this celebration/transformation of the porch for the 4th of July. (Tablescape and porch makeover can be viewed HERE.)  They pack a lot of punch for just $1 each.

They also had these whimsical martini glasses with wavy, silly stems.  They are great for serving desserts if martinis aren’t your thing.

I used martini glasses I found in Dollar Tree for dessert in this tablescape below.  (Tablescape can be viewed HERE.)  Don’t they make cute dessert dishes?

They also still had plenty of these fun lemon glasses.

These are perfect for lemonade during the summer months. (This mini scape can be viewed HERE.)

I also used them in this summer scape,  HERE.

Office Musings:

I’ve been playing in the office AGAIN!

Two wee changes:  I added a little “preserved” boxwood wreath to the mirror for Christmas and I like it so much, I think I’ll leave it up for a while.  Do you see the other tiny change?  (Don’t look at the lamp.  I stole that one from the porch since the lamp I had stolen from the dining room really needed to go back in the dining room for Christmas.  One day I’ll find a lamp I like for this spot.)

I’ve been looking for a crown to top off my dress form, but the ones I found just didn’t quite fit the “crown budget.”  You have a crown budget, right?

I found this adorable mercury glass crown at Marshalls for only $12.99.  I think it’s supposed to be an ornament…note the hanging loop thingy at the top.   It would be one heavy ornament, though–don’t think a Christmas tree limb would support it for long.

I tried to snap the loop off with some ceramic cutters I have, but no going.  I think it will have to be cut off by someone with some serious cutting tools.  Ummm, gotta work on that.

Oh, one last thing…while I was shopping online last night for an ottoman for the office chair, I discovered Pier 1 is flush with Rosalie chairs, now.  So many folks e-mailed me after I posted about this chair last summer, but alas, Pier 1 had only 2 in stock here in the Atlanta area and none on their website back then.  Well, now there are bunches showing online and in the stores; so if you were one of the folks who fell in love with Rosalie, she’s available again.

I just noticed their description in the ad.  Have you ever heard the word “chimerical?”  I just looked it up and it means: whimsical, fanciful, imaginative.  Love that!  I learned a new word today.

Here’s how she looks in the office.  Oh, and the bee pillow is back on sale again at Ballard Designs for $29.

So that’s it!   See ya tonight for Tablescape Thursday!

Love that little boxwood wreath, Susan! I'd leave it up all year, too. I'm going to try my hand at some small coffee filter wreaths for a similar feeling. I was looking at the Pier 1 chairs as I'd like to get an upholstered one for our master and an armless one for the guest room. Unfortunately, I'm looking to get two for at least the price of Rosalie!

  12. I love every inch of your house… the attention to detail is amazing! What I love the most, though, is that it is a normal, lived in, loved HOME – doesn't look fakey, put on and staged for a blog – it looks like a HOME.

Thanks for sharing it with us !

  13. Shannah @ Just Us Four says

Ok, so in love with that little door hanger! He is too cute.

  14. Your wreath is beautiful! It does say winter,I am leaving mine up too, until I find one to replace it.

  15. Love the crown! Perhaps a Dremel would cut the loop off?

And I never realized how cute the stemware is at Dollar Tree! Neat!

  16. I too am a Dollar Tree fan and have been buying my monthly planners there for years. I enjoy reading your blog and discovered your link on the site for Real Housewives of Bucks County. I live in the same area as those gals. Your site is done so beautifully. It's like looking at a magazine. Keep the pictures and ideas coming…Cheryl S.

  17. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Labbie, I have a dremel and now that you mention it, I think there just might be a little wheel in the dremel kit that will do that. I'll definitely give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

  18. What a fun post, Susan. How about putting a jewel in the top of your crown? Emerald? Ruby? Sapphire?

  19. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Chris that would be fancy! 🙂

  20. Sewconsult says

My closest Dollar store has closed. I need to find another one. Thanks for the heads' up on the calendars, etc. I usually spend way too much on them at the office supply stores, too.

I also would leave your wreath up for the winter months sweet.
I go to the Dollar store all the time as you know Susan.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year with your family.
    XXOO Diane

  22. Omg! I'm so excited to see the little calendars are at Dollar Tree!! I'm a teacher and we get these each year from our boss. I dressed mine up a few years back and everybody went crazy for them. So I tried finding them to make for others, and like you said- crazy expensive! Off to go buy a few… or 20! In case you want to dress yours up, I have a free tutorial on my blog! http://pinkbuckaroodesigns.blogspot.com/2010/09/spiral-covers.html
Love the little deer wreath holder! He deserves to be out all year for sure!

Erica, I was hoping that info might come in handy for someone. I was thrilled to find them. I know where I'm shopping each year now. lol I'll check out your tutorial…thanks for the link.

  24. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Thanks, Diane! It was great! I hope you have a blessed and prosperous 2012!

  25. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Gena, thanks soooo much for that comment. That's truly the nicest compliment I could ever get! So appreciate that! 🙂

  26. Phyllis@Around the House says

Hi Susan…love the crown on the head of the dress form (with no name yet)…she just must have a great southern name and a set of long pearls like a true southern lady….love your room of course and adore maxx…love his antics…phyllis

  27. That was fun, Susan.
I broke 3 of my lemonade glasses reaching for something in the basement. I have the blue, but would love the little ones to serve dessert in. They have a squiggley stem?
My little drugstore gives out the calendars, as well as my hair dresser and dentist, and teacher's group I belong to, so I am set. I like to a have a few also. I like a few big calendars too. I don't know why, it's not like I have a lot of dates, LOL!
As for the deer, one of them chewed the bush right by my front steps to nothing even though it was covered with lights! GRRR!

  28. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Kathleen, that must be one yummy tasting bush if she/he chewed on it with lights on it! Too funny! Not funny to you, though! 🙂

  29. Zuni, Chickadee Home Nest says

I don't blame you one bit for wanting to keep that cute deer hanger and the snowy wreath on your door for a while–I would too. I usually keep some "wintery" decorations out as we de-Christmas, because, after all, it IS winter! This was a fun post, Susan. Love the crown! 🙂 Zuni

  30. Thank you for continually inspiring us to look everywhere for items we can use to create a beautiful home.

  31. Susan, you cracked me up with the "Crown Budget" question! I hadn't even realized I needed a line item on our budget for crowns!

I love your finds and the humor in this post.

    Happy New Year!

  32. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

    lol Thanks, Maria. 🙂

  33. Susan–Let me know how it goes with the dremel! 🙂

  34. PS Thanks for the tip on the calendars! I ran right out yesterday and got one! Great price!

  35. Such a fun post!

    ~Linnea

  36. Your eye for detail is amazing. The little things you pick up and then put together is amazing

  37. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Awww, thanks, Judi! Appreciate that so much!

  38. Put a faux jewel on the crown hangy thing.

  39. I agree with Gail! Try a pearl if you don't like her jewel suggestion. I've broken a ton of things during the "fixing" process. Don't risk breaking that gorgeous topper.

  40. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Anon, I'm sure you're right…that would be just my luck! 🙂 Thanks!

  41. Tracy Boyle says

Susan, Italy is my FAVORITE! I went in 2008 for my 25th anniversary and then again in 2010 for the Rome marathon. When you are ready to go, let's do lunch and we can chat all about it! It's my love!

  42. somewhereinthyme says

I hope you do make it to Italy! The food is fantastic, I mean almost indescribably fantastic. And try to make it to Rome – you will never forget it! Love your blog.
