I’ve been busy this last week decorating for Christmas and preparing for the neighborhood Ladies Cookie Party that will be at my house Sunday afternoon. Even though the weather is a bit chilly for hanging out on the screened-in porch, I thought I’d dress it up a bit since it’s visible from inside. And maybe, just maybe, Sunday will be nice enough to venture out for a bit. Last week was in the 30’s and today the temps reached the 60’s here…Georgia weather is crazy!
Here are a few views of the porch…so far. This tree is in a large urn so I think I’ll just remove the star and leave it out here year round. It would be kind of nice to have some soft lights in that corner on those sweet summer nights on the porch.
Dragonflies love being on the porch, too.
A little candlelight…
What? How did this picture get in here? If you have seen my porch on RMS, you may remember this little chair that acts as a plant stand on the porch during the summer.
Since it’s too cold for a big ole fat, red geranium, I stuffed this large clay pot with several strands of white lights and threw some sparkly ornaments on top.
This only cost around $4 to do. I already had the clay pot and the lights…and the ornaments came from Dollar Tree. The ornaments were in canisters that each contained five ornaments…for $1…so that’s twenty ornaments for $4. Can’t beat that dollar store. Ummm, I’m thinking I might need to weave some lit garland around the top of the chair…what do you think?

The tree is pretty lighted on your porch! I love, love, love, the dragonflys! The clay pot is all spruced up! A little garland or strands of ice cycles from Dollar Tree would look great. But I know you, will find something very special! Is that a swing I see for the first time or a hammock?
Katherine…yep…that’s a swing…it’s the same one that’s in my header pic…I’ve disguised the chains. 🙂 Diane, the dragonfly lights came from Smith Hawkin online and the tree came from Michaels…on sale from $225 to $99 because it supposedly leans…I didn’t see a lean. 🙂
Wow Susan… I LOVE your porch and you tree is stunning…I think it would look great out there all year… you could even make it an all occasion tree… We use to have on by our front door… When we had a house… LOL LOL Those little dragonflies are adorable… What a cute idea the planter is too… Have a great night

Oh so lovely! My girlfriend just said today that she wanted a tree that she could keep up year round and decorate for seasons and holidays. So hearing you say that you were going to keep your tree on your porch made me smile and think of her. Knowing how wonderfully creative you are, I can see how you would decorate it for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, spring, summer, 4th of July, someone’s birthday or anniversary, etc. Okay, now I want one too. LOL.

You might consider a garland that has lights incorporated, to go across the back and wind down the sides of your chair.
One thing about the weather in Georgia, if you don’t like it, hang around for a day or so, and it’s bound to change. It’s 63 degrees at 12.30 a.m. right now here in Middle Georgia and Sunday night it is supposed to be 25 degrees. I think that is why so many people have trouble staying well in Winter. The body has a hard time adjusting to such rapidly changing conditions.

I admit to being an afternoon napper. My favorite nappie is to cuddle up with my Granddaughter Mady and her soft pink blanket on my big king bed. She is a cuddler!

Susan…this is so cozy and pretty! I love the dragonflies! what a clever way to “winter up” your chair! Yes, I think lit garland around the back of the chair and even the base of the pot would be a wonderful addition, but it looks great without it, too!

I had to work today (literally–had to go sign books with local authors at a humongous thing for senior citizens) and I just came home and read your comment about the gray china.
But first–I have to tell you that I enjoyed your porch decorations so much. You have such a magical touch–I just love it all. The idea with the clay pot is fantastic. I’d outline that chair with lights in a heartbeat!
Those gray-blue dishes are 25% off, and it’s a place-setting for 6. I called the store and said, Gollumize it, baby! lol Now to find some placemats. LOL I did look on Ebay, but there aren’t many pieces of this. It’s from the 50s.

P.S. Now, listen: you simply MUST buy more plates. A china closet would be heaven, but until then, buy those dishes, girl! Put them in Gollumy places, under the bed, under the sofa, under chairs. LOL You can hang plates and just take them off the wall a la Bunny Williams when you need them. Or just buy pairs! I once saw a darling tablesetting for two (mismatched dishes) in Martha Stewart’s Gardening book.
