Friendships…

Friendships made on RMS are unique, because often times, we never actually get to meet each other face to face. We share so much in RMS land…the good times (front page) as well as the bad (troll, trolls, trolls). And sometimes bonds are made that in some ways feel stronger than many of the friendships we have right here at home.

Then, every once in a while, if you’re lucky, you get to meet face to face. Last night was one of those special nights for me. Rose (SantaMaker on RMS) came to hear a special guest by the name of Brooks Garcia, speak to my garden club.

You think we can chat up a storm on RMS…you ain’t seen nothing! We had sooo much fun, that even our futile attempts to take a photo of the two of us, only to find the batteries in the camera were dead, didn’t dampen our spirits. Rose is just as adorable and funny in person as she is on RMS!

And look at this precious bird she brought me…does she know me, or what? Didn’t I just post a tablescape all decked out with bird’s nest and little birdie napkin rings?! Rose, you are just the best!!!

I do love this sweet little bird! I placed him here long enough to take his picture, but he is now perched right here in my office, near my computer, where he watches over me each evening as I visit my RMS friends and work on my blog.

I feel so blessed to have made so many wonderful friends on RMS. And my hope for all of you is that someday, you will get to meet your RMS friends…

face to face…

and heart to heart.

“The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch swing with, never say a word, then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation that you ever had.”

Rose, you are definitely that kind of friend!

What a wonderful experience for both of you. I am sure, between your two great minds, that you figured a way to straighten out the troll situation on RMS. I await your instructions on what I can do to help remedy the problem, so that everyone can have more “good times” and fewer “bad times” on RMS.
    Viva la friendship!

  2. Susan, what a great post. It’s fun to hear that you got to meet Santamaker. I love her posts and her blog too. I just met one of my RMS friends (HeatherF1) face to face this weekend too. 🙂 We live about 100 miles apart, but a big antique show was all it took to get me down her way. And she is just as sweet in person as she is on RMS! I never would’ve expected to meet so many great people (whether online or in person)when I logged on for the first time about a month ago! What a pleasant surprise. Have a wonderful day! Pam (pc25)

  3. Susan isn’t it just wonderful to be able to meet such lovely people in person, I just recently met a very lovely lady from blog-land on my recent trip to NYC, I happened to mention to her that I loved the “Flat-Iron Building” and the next thing I know, a package arrives and Pat had sent me a beautiful framed print of the Flat-Iron that she had picked up for me at the Washington Square Outdoor Art exhibit, with a note saying, I saw this and thought of you. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed meeting Pat and how the wonderful people here have enriched my life, what a beautiful gift Rose gave to you, I am delighted that you both had such a lovely time. Kathy

Several years ago, just as we were planning to build our home, I joined an online decorating board. This was in 2002. Over the years I’ve “met” many wonderful people. As time went by, the decision was made to make the board private.

Many of the members of the board have moved to blogland. This has made our “relationship” even better. We’ve been through good times and bad times, together. I’ve met a few of my friends, who are just as wonderful in person as they are online. It is amazing how we feel like we’ve known each other for years.

I’ve only posted rooms on RMS sporadically. I wasn’t totally ripped up one side and down the other, but I did have snarky comments left, now and then, which made me very uncomfortable. I’ve met many RMSer’s since I began blogging last year. It has been an enriching experience.

  5. This entry was so sweet. It’s so nice you were able to meet in person and I’m sure it’s the first of many meetings. The figurine is adorable and a well thought out gift.

There is no better gift than a friend…the little bird was a bonus…I’m sure it was wonderful to meet another fellow RMS with as much talent as you have…Santamaker’s personality explodes from her post and now her blog..It is too bad both of you failed to get pictures..glad to hear there is another chance next month…hugs ~lynne~

  7. Susan, I am lucky to have some wonderful friends and a great social circle, but, I must say rms and blogland has been a new journey for me. I feel as if I have met so many kindred spirits. You are one of those beautiful spirits. I still find it uncanny how many ways we are alike about little things like waiting forever to find the perfect piece for our homes. Then there are the love of books OH! how we love the decorating books. How wonderful for you and santa maker to meet. You both come across in print as warm and wonderful women. Thanks for opening up the dialog of friendships of the heart. Your friend Kathysue[rms]

  11. Oh Susan how very special to be able to meet Santmaker she is one of the good guys on RMS..and the bonus of the little bird is like someone to watch over you!!!
I too have met so many kind and sweet friends from RMS…what a special night you 2 had…I have to share my favorite quote with you…The best and most beautiful things in life can’t not be seen or touched but felted in the heart..that is by Helen Keller !928 is that not the neatest thing?? I feel this way about my RMS firends I will never see them but I feel them in my heart..Great post today Susan.. Hugs and smiles

  12. Hi Susan, I’m so envious! You got to meet eye to eye? Love the little bird and yes, santamaker definitely knows who you are, doesn’t she? I’ll bet you had so much fun and laughed until your faces hurt! What a wonderful bonus for you. I just love the friends I’ve made on RMS. I still feel a little out of it because I’m not in blogland but that’s just not going to happen. Have a great week my Friend! Carol

  13. Hi neighbor and friend,
Your post today meant a lot to me and I certainly feel the same way about you! Thank you so very much for highlighting our meeting and friendship! We have to do it again! I would love to go touring homes with you! I had to go by myself last year, we had just moved to Ga and I didn’t know a single person.. and of course hubby would have rather chewed on tin foil than endure a tour of homes!! ( I give him a hard time, but he REALLY is the best husband in the world ). Penny from Dunwoody mentioned on my blog several different tours and maybe we could go together!
The humble little bird I gave you never suspected he would be the focus of one of you gorgeous posts! You showcased him beautifully ! I am so glad he hit the mark. ( I believe that is a magnolia he is perched on, don’tcha think?) :o)
Let me know if you ever want to go to Scott Antique market, I’ve been there once, 5 years ago and loved it. It’s open this weekend but I have my big 5-0 Bday (.. ugh.. I hate to even type that number..) this weekend and my girls are coming down to visit.
Thanks again, you are a sweetie!
    Be Good!
    Santa

What a wonderful experience and thanks for sharing, Susan. We often talk about hoping to meet but I wonder how many ever really meet. Well, this is one instance and another is frenckilt and kiakai. I wish I could be in one of future instances.

  15. Susan,

I am so happy that you got to meet Rose. I love her chairs, particularly Tallulah Tassel. I remember Brooks Garcia; I think he used to be on the Lynnette Jennings Show sometimes. Funny, just hearing his name I can see him and hear his voice. Amazing what a profound influence some TV shows have on us.

    Janet

  16. What a wonderful gift! The gift of a RL friend! *winks* As well as that darling little birdie! I can tell you two have tons of fun times ahead of you! I hope to someday make a tour of all my RMS friends. Wouldn’t that be some party if we all got together? Maybe a little trip to Vegas is called for! *winks* Vanna

  17. Susan, I am so envious of you and Rose! Two of my favs. on RMS. I can’t even imagine how much fun you had, and now she’s talking about home tours and flea market. I am SO jealous! I loved Ann’s quote too. I’ve said many times that when I accidently ended up finding RMS, I never suspected that I would make friends while looking at pix of people’s homes, but it is just as you so wisely said… sometimes they seem like better friends than some who are right here with me. It is so surprising to me that I have grown to love people that I’ve never met. How lucky you 2 were to get to meet. Maybe we should plan an RMS convention and get everyone together! Love your pretty bird and love you and Rose! Laurie (bargainhunr)

  18. Susan (Moonlight and Magnolias on RMS) says

Laurie…I agree! Wish we could all get together…the fun we would have!!! 🙂 Count me in!

  19. Well isn’t that nice that the two of you live close enough that you can get together. It sounds like you will have many more fun times ahead! ~ Robyn

What a lovely gift. There surely are some amazing and sweet ladies on RMS. Sometimes I tend to forget the great people I met there. I don’t go back anymore…in fact I’ll probably break down and delete my rooms…but the friendships will always be treasured. And I’m so very glad most of those great ladies are here in blogland and I can visit them every day!

  22. Terrie's Lil' Piece of Serenity says

Oh, fun!! I bet the two of you had a blast!! I wish we could all meet someday!! The little bird is as sweet as can be. And what a treasure. A gift from a RMS friend watching over you!! Have a great day!! Hugs, Terrie

  23. You are so fortunate that you and Rose could actually meet in person! There are SO many “friends” from RMS that I would so love to meet in person too! Your little bird is precious and I know you love it. Thanks for all you post. Maybe someday I will get to meet a felow RMSer! Hugs, Pinky

  24. What a sweet post, Susan. And what an adorable little figurine.

Your sincere comments made me wonder if RMS still exists. I had never heard of it until you mentioned it sometime in a post. And does Rose still follow you here? I know we have a couple of Rose’s who post here. How wonderful if you two are still in touch! I can so see you two putting your heads together and gabbing into the wee hours. 😀

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
