Installing Hardwood Floors: Part 1

Come along for the journey.

Here’s the room this morning.

This was my son’s baseball-themed bedroom and I removed all the furniture recently to create a home office since he’s all grown up and has flown the nest.

Bye-bye old carpet…

Wish blogs had sound and smell-a-vision. Imagine the sound of saws, air compressors and the smell of fresh wood. Sounds and smells like progress. 🙂 See you a little later with an update…

  1. This may seem a bit warped, but I LOVE the smell of freshly cut wood. It reminds me of going to work with my dad when I was young.

You seem to find the best crews for your work. Have you ever had a bad crew or job done? Do things always go as you plan? I love how things just get accomplished on time at your place. Where do you find such good workers?

Nothing like the smell of fresh wood but the noise, I can do without.

Do you have some earplugs? You will need them.

Try Downy (sp)? fabric softener and water for wall paper removal. I saw it on This Old House, its how some wallpaper was removed. Seem to work great and fast.

    Keeping up with your progress.

  3. I am so glad you're posting this. We are getting ready to rip out old carpet and go in with new hardwood floors. To save money, we're going to give it a shot ourselves so your blog is going to be a great resource for us!! Thank you!

  4. We redid all the floors in our home, changing from carpet and laminate to hardwood. It took us 3 years to complete-ugh! Wish we had just bit the bullet and hired it out. Looking forward to seeing your new office. I absolutely love the PB furniture you chose.

I LOVE the smell of progress! 🙂 (I love doing projects with my saws, just so I can smell the wood being cut..ahhh!!)
Gosh, your room is undergoing an amazing transformation right before our eyes! 🙂
Can't wait to see more! 🙂

  6. I use to be scared to death of saws! But as life as gone on, I have learned to cope and even enjoy sawing away a piece of wood. I even do some woodwork stuff. It's weird how a fear can change into a hobby. Enjoy making and transforming your new room.

  7. The Quintessential Magpie says

Glad it's you and not me! LOL! But this is exciting. 🙂

    Susan,
YOU are too funny! Sounds and smells. Has all that wallpaper remover gone to your head? HA!
Looks like the progress is moving right along. .. what's next?
    Fondly,
    Pat

  9. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Pat, Ha! YES, it has! LOL
Next is a continuation of my life long quest to get the wallpaper off the walls! I'm heading to Lowes tomorrow and buying myself a steamer! This is war!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
