Happy Labor Day weekend! Do you have any special plans this weekend? This weekend, the Dollhouse movie room will be turned into a game-viewing room.

I have family, along with a few Georgia fans, coming over for the first Georgia game of the season. I know very little about football, but tomorrow should be a fun day.

This post is a bit late to be sharing for games that are happening tomorrow, but I thought I’d share a few of the preparations I’ve made in case it’s helpful for future games this season. I’m keeping everything super casual and relaxed. I ordered this 6-foot folding table that should be arriving via FedEx tomorrow. Based on when FedEx normally delivers, it should get here before the food I’ve ordered arrives. By the way, I want to thank everyone who previously offered suggestions for foods to serve on game day. I loved all your suggestions and will keep those in mind for future games. For tomorrow, I decided to keep it as stress-free as possible since I’ve been having some back issues lately. I went to the doctor today, so I should be feeling much better by tomorrow.
This is the table that I ordered. It had great reviews and appears to be coming from Staples. If you are looking for a folding table for future game day parties in an area of your home that’s not near the kitchen or dining room, you’ll find this very affordable folding table here: 6-Foot Folding Table. It comes in a bunch of sizes, and I went with the 6-foot size.

I ordered a green tablecloth for the table, and it arrived today. (Tablecloth is available in 45 colors here: Banquet Tablecloth, Wrinkle-Resistant, Available in 45 Colors.

Of course, you know I’ll be firing up the Popcorn Machine, but I’ve also ordered one of the “Party Packs” from City Barbecue, a popular BBQ restaurant here in this area. I just checked, and it appears they are presently in 10 states, including Georgia. Per their website, they are in the following states: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. We’ll be having Pulled Pork, Brisket, Wings, Green Beans with Bacon, Mac & Cheese, Potato Salad, and their amazing Banana Pudding. Their collard greens are really good, too! I really like their barbecue and their side dishes! Everything they make tastes exactly the way I’m used to barbecue and the fixin’s tasting in the south. Sooo good!

The Georgia glasses that I ordered a few weeks ago are out and ready for drinks.

I wanted to keep it super casual, so I ordered a Football party pack of plates and napkins. I was pleased to see that the plates feel nice and sturdy (Plates and napkins are available here: Disposable Football-themed Plates and Napkins).

A few weeks back, I ordered this awesome wooden puzzle from Iconic Puzzles online. The pieces are very thick, and many are cut in the shape of various sports themes/poses. The puzzle was available in three sizes, and I went with the larger size that comes with a little kit for hanging the puzzle once it’s complete. It took about 10 days for my puzzle to arrive, but it was worth the wait. I love the quality of this wooden puzzle!

For working on the puzzle, I ordered this firm puzzle mat. It’s stiff enough that it could be used on a softer surface like an ottoman. My initial idea was to place the mat/puzzle on the ottoman so we could work on the puzzle during commercial breaks or whenever a little stress relief/distraction was needed. But I think I’m going to leave it on a wooden card table that I have down in the movie room. I love the mat, it’s exactly what I had envisioned when I ordered it. Unfortunately, it’s not currently available, but maybe it will come back in stock. Here’s where it was available when I ordered it a few weeks back: Puzzle Mat.

You can see some of the table peeking out under the mat in this photo below. It’s a beautiful, hand-crafted wood table that I purchased over 40 years ago at a crafts fair. A few weeks back, I purchased these puzzle trays that are designed with an open edge. The open edge is supposed to make it easy to slide pieces off onto a table. As you can see, my grandsons have already started working on the puzzle. It’s challenging, so they didn’t get very far, which is good since it’s supposed to be for game day! lol (Puzzle trays are available here: Puzzle Trays.)

Tomorrow should be a fun day. If it gets too stressful, I’ll run and hide upstairs for a bit. Ha! Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend! Will you be watching a game or two tomorrow? For what team will you be cheering?

Love City Barbecue, always stop there for a meal when we’re visiting the Cincy area! I like their cucumber & onion salad side, which I think is a seasonal (summertime) offering. Go team!
Oh, I bet I would love that. I need to try it before it’s gone for the season.
Wisconsin of course…do they make the puzzles in pro football teams? Source please if they do.
I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised. It came from Iconic Puzzles. Here’s their website: https://iconic-puzzles.com/
Rebecca, I just did a search at their website and found this: https://iconic-puzzles.com/search?q=green+bay&options%5Bprefix%5D=last
There may be more Wisconsin team puzzles, those are just the ones I saw when I did a search.
A Google search showed these: https://iconic-puzzles.com/collections/milwaukee-brewers%E2%84%A2?srsltid=AfmBOoqb8zukw-uzy-15Jo1qQ8gGflWtKi27DzLEwJLQ7ATkg0K8DTeH
Envious of such a fun day! Everyone will have such fun whether they like football or not. Wish my family was closer; miss those game days.
LSU, of course…..being an alum! In fact, Georgia is a competitor in our SEC division. Good Luck to yall tomorrow….maybe!! Heheheh!
My family loves City BBQ – there’s one right here in my small town. I don’t eat bbq so I don’t get it too often but it is perfect for game day. Now you partially live in Ohio we need to get you to be an Ohio State Buckeye fan too. ♥ My daughter and son-in-law almost always go to the home games. We have perfect game day weather. YAY. GO BUCKS! And go Georgia too!! Have fun.
Well, I hope you have a fun game as. But…GO VOLS!
Susan! Fun day for you all, good luck to your team! (Of course, we are all about the Minnesota Golden Gophers here! :))
I retired to Florida but you can’t take Tennessee Vols out of this long standing fan!!!GBO
Have fun and enjoy the weekend.
From Gainesville, home of UFL we’re doing our first game of the season with family too! Our kids actually walk to the stadium to tailgate with friends and then come here to watch the game in our pool house. Still too hot to sit in the stadium! We’re playing an unknown (to me) team, Long Island University. We will grill burgers and dogs this time but love the stress free catered bbq idea! Enjoy the game and the long weekend!
GO GATORS!
I love to take a break upstairs. Introverts need to their limits.
Smart!
Wendy
Omg…writing to you from Kenya. My brother a huge UGA is going nuts to watch the games. Like you, I don’t follow but he and my SIL already bought bulldog color maasai bracelets and some other red/black souvenirs. I can’t wait to show them your post. You do exemplify the “more is better” philosophy. Good night dear friend. Muuah
Your football decorations look great & the food sounds amazing! I’m glad college football season is finally here! Looking forward to the games today and I have to give a shout out to Alabama. Roll Tide Roll!!
Good for you, hosting a UGA game in your new home. We traditionally have game-day chili, air-fryer baked potatoes, and slaw here.
Not particularly a football fan, but can confirm that I would have a most delightful time at your place! Those football-themed plates, napkins, and glasses are perfect. Hope you post a photo of the puzzle’s status by evening’s end. And even if you did need to briefly escape for a bit, I’m sure you rather enjoyed the gathering.
Beautiful work on your vintage house! When will you replace and restore those wall lights in the living room-that are definitely not vintage-to the house?? They look very 70’s or 80’s. Not original. I think they need to look like original fixtures.
I’m not sure when those were added, but you could be right and they may not be original. I love the soft light that they add. I wonder if they replaced an older light that was once there.
