Tour The Beautiful Library & Bedrooms Inside The Historic Tate House, aka, The Pink Palace.

Seems like I start every post lately with, “I know Christmas has passed now, but….”  There just weren’t enough days in December to share everything with you that I thought you would enjoy. So, as we trudge our way through the cold weather of January (maybe I’m the only one trudging as I long for warmer days), I thought you would enjoy seeing more photos inside the beautiful Tate House, aka, The Pink Palace, located in Tate, Georgia.

A Visit to Tate House in Tate, GA

A beautiful wreath hanging on a side or back door…forgotten which now. I often got turned around in this huge home.

This door had a double entry, of sorts. I think the first room would be considered a vestibule or antechamber, which is a room designed to reduce heat loss. The vestibule creates a buffer between the outside and the main foyer.

This entrance is where the beautiful grand staircase is located.

The mural isn’t original to the home. If I’m remembering correctly, I believe it was added by the current owner, Mrs. Marsha Holbrook Mann.

A beautiful paneled library/study.

I believe this portrait hanging above the fireplace in the library is Colonel Sam Tate, the original owner who oversaw the construction of the Tate House from 1921 to 1926. I wonder what he would think about having thousands of people touring his beautiful home. I would like to think that he would be relieved and pleased knowing that it was saved from ruin (it came close) and has been preserved for another 100+ years.

The beautiful Christmas tree in this room…

Gorgeous antique hutch in this room.

Let’s check out all the opulently decorated bedrooms. I’ve numbered the bedrooms just to separate the photos for each room.

Every bedroom had its own fully decorated Christmas tree.

Gorgeous mirror, reflecting my wonderful friend who planned this fun tour for us. Thanks, Michelle!

Bedroom #3

I must have missed photographing the tree in this room.

A beautiful display elsewhere in the home…

I thought this wallpaper going up a back staircase was so beautiful, I had to take a photo of it.

A closer view…

This narrow room was off a hall in the upstairs part of the home. I’m guessing it may have been for linen storage for all the bedrooms.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of the library and some of the bedrooms in this Pink Palace, aka, the Tate House. Constructed of beautiful, pink, Georgia marble, it truly is a delight to tour!

  4. See ? You can never have too many Christmas trees or ornaments. How many volunteers and how many hours to decorate for Christmas? Thanks for sharing the photos.

  5. Susan, please never feel you have to apologize for bringing us Christmas in January! I for one never get too tired of Christmas.

This was my favorite post about the Tate house, yet. I love the door wreath, the glass door to the vestibule, the cozy paneled study, and the wallpaper in bedroom 1! I also loved that little linen room (every home should have one,) the life sized Father Christmas in his green robes, the antique hutch, the many trees and the pretty staircase wallpaper. Not to mention the trees, trees, trees and allll those ornaments. What fun.

Seriously though, I don’t know how they created nor kept those ginormous garlands on the mantels! There must be some serious engineering going on there, lol.

That was great fun, Susan. Thanks so much for taking so many pictures to share with us. That is definitely a house that loves Christmas.

  6. Living in NY this makes me need to get to Georgia!

WOW!!!!!!! Thank you, Susan! They really out-did themselves at that beautiful manor, didn’t they? And I agree – Christmas just seemed to go too fast this year and about everyone I know held onto it a little longer than normal. I can’t stand it went so fast, so I am glad you shared this.

  8. The home is beautiful! Thanks for sharing with us, Susan. I really loved all the gorgeous Christmas trees…all unique and all absolutely spectacular! But at the risk of sounding like Scrooge, I did not really like the humongous garlands/swags on the fireplaces and the antique hutch. To my eye they were just too much, too over the top….they seemed to completely smother the beautiful pieces. No doubt they were nice in person but I would like to have seen them scaled back considerably. I did notice and love the cute stuffed doggies that were here and there in different rooms. So cute!!!

  9. We went a few years ago. It is worth a trip and to have dinner while listening to a string quartet (that evening).

There is also A Pink Palace in Memphis, TN. Made of Pink Georgia marble, too! It was the planned home of the founder of Piggly Wiggly grocery stores–who came up with the idea of shopping carts to make it easier for shoppers to gather their groceries. Financial difficulties forced the owner to declare bankruptcy, and the mansion was given to the City of Memphis. It was first a Children’s Museum, I believe, and then evolved into a Science Museum and Planetarium. That’s how I knew of it–from wearing a Science Museum hat here in Nashville, back in the day. If you’re ever in the Bluff City, it’s worth a visit, as well as the other sights in Memphis.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
