Welcome to the 886th Metamorphosis Monday! If you’ve been reading BNOTP for a while, you know I tend go from zero to 100 when I find something I really like. That’s pretty much what has happened to me since I discovered Bogg Bags. It all started when I gave one as a gift to my lovely DIL. After seeing her bag in person, I was so impressed with how well it was made, I decided I’d one day buy one for myself.
A few months later, Bogg tempted me with a great sale, and I purchased a second one as a gift. During that visit to their website, I fell in love with a just-released bag and purchased it to use when I take my grandsons to a nearby pool this summer. Bogg Bags are the perfect tote for taking to the beach or poolside since they are pretty much impervious to water. (Bag is available here: Bogg Bag.)

One of the fun things about Bogg Bags is due to how they are designed, a bag can be personalized, aka, blinged out with some fun “flare” as they call it in the movie, Office Space. lol Bogg calls the little extras that can be added to your bag—Bogg Bits. I preordered the “Love” and “heart” Bits seen in the picture below when I ordered my bag, but they are not available just yet. They should arrive soon, based on information I’ve received from their customer service.

Checking out their website for other “Bits” that I might want to add to my bag, I discovered they had just released a second “heart” bag. I’ve always had this thing for hearts, buying heart necklaces, bracelets, and earrings over the years. Valentine’s Day tables are one of my favorite tablescapes to create.

This one had an Alice in Wonderland, Queen of Hearts theme to go with AIW plates in that table setting.

How about a Valentine’s Day feather tree? Hard to believe Valentine’s Day is less than a month away now.

I loved the colors in their newest “heart” bag just as much as the colors in the first one! Since these totes are great for grocery shopping, errand running, and a ton of other purposes (I’ve read that nurses and teachers love them!) I decided to add one more to my rotation. So here’s where things get interesting. I ordered this heart bag, along with a bag “Topper” and a couple of their Bits for my existing bag. They were scheduled to be delivered yesterday.

This was the photo I received from FedEx via email confirming my package with my bag, topper, and bits had been delivered. There was just one problem—that was not my porch in the photo. 🙁 Whomp, whomp.

I’m sure you’ve had this happen before, where you’re excited about an upcoming delivery, and then the delivery doesn’t happen due to weather or some other reason. It’s disappointing when that happens. I checked, and the delivery address on the Bogg website was correct, so how did it get delivered to the wrong address?
I reported the missing package to FedEx via their website and received a case number. Next, I called Bogg to let them know the package was delivered to the wrong address. Fortunately, when I purchased my bag on their website, I opted to accept their “Shipping Protection” for $4.15. Unfortunately, the Bogg representative said that I would need to wait 5 days before that protection would activate, then they would either issue me a refund or resend the items, whichever I wanted. I opted for the latter since I still wanted everything I had previously ordered. FYI: I almost didn’t bother to purchase their shipping protection since I paid via American Express, and I’m pretty sure Amex would have covered this loss, but I knew it would be less of a hassle if I didn’t have to file a claim with Amex.
So what happened next? I could not get that photo the FedEx driver had taken out of my mind. It was killing me knowing that my package was here, just sitting on someone else’s porch. So, I decided to put my Sherlock Holmes hat on and see if I could figure this mystery out. The first thing I did was check the porches of my neighbors on either side of me. Amazon has accidentally delivered packages to my neighbor on the left, and Home Depot once delivered a package to my neighbor on the right. Unfortunately, their porches looked nothing like the one in the photo, and there were no packages to be found.
Next, I tried looking up streets online in my area that had similar names to mine and for which the house number was the same. Hopping in my car, I drove slowly down one of those streets, eyeing the various porches. No luck. I tried one more street in a nearby city that had the same house number and almost the exact same street name as mine—again, striking out. I also checked a street that’s one street east of mine, since we share the same alley behind our homes, and Google often takes DoorDash delivery drivers to the alley. Again, no luck.
Back home, I tried to put my mind in the same place as the FedEx driver. The first thought that popped into my mind was that maybe he lost track of what street he was on. Maybe he thought he was on my street but was really on one nearby. I brought up a map of my community online to see the names of the streets near mine. I’m still learning all the street names around here, and half of them, I have no idea how to pronounce. A lot of them start with the letter “S,” so I’m constantly confusing them. They are probably the names of those who were involved in the founding of this community. Anyway, I decided to take a look at the street that’s one street over to the west of mine, one of the many S-named streets. (As mentioned, I had already checked the one that’s one street over to the east that shares an alley with me.)
After finding the name of the street on a map, I searched for the street on Google, selecting the “Street View.” Virtually, I drove down the street, pivoting my mouse to the left and right to view the porches. I was hoping to see one that had similar steps to the one in the FedEx delivery photo, and I found it! Or, at least I was pretty sure I had found it!
Next, using the exact address of the home with similar-looking steps, I did a search for that home online, hoping to find additional photos to verify my hunch. Sometimes, if a home has been listed or sold in the past few years, photos will still be available online. I’m not sure when the home with steps like those in the FedEx photo last sold, but there were quite a few photos of it online, and several showed the porch and its walkway, since it is beautifully lit with in-ground lighting all along the walkway. And guess what—I could see the same lines, cracks, and details in the photos of the steps online as in the FedEx photo! Bingo!

It was dark out, but I drove over to the house to see if there was a package on the porch. In the darkness, I couldn’t see the porch very well, so I decided to wait until this morning to visit and hopefully retrieve my package. I called and left a message on their phone letting them know that FedEx had accidentally delivered a package to their home instead of mine. I left my name, phone number, and address so they would know how to reach me. This morning, having not heard back and figuring they were out of town for the holiday weekend, I drove over to the house. As I approached the porch, I snapped a photo, trying to recreate the one taken by the FedEx delivery person. Yup, definitely the same steps!

I could see a large box on a table near the front door. Apparently, a neighbor or someone had moved it closer to the door. Checking the address, I was so happy to see it was addressed to me! Yay! That’s my yellow note pad. I had planned to leave a note, but realized I had left my pen at home.

Here she is with her “Topper” in place to hold drinks and other goodies poolside, gameside, or lifeside. I’ll do another post sometime soon, sharing additional photos of some of the accessories I’ve purchased on Amazon and from the Bogg website for my two bags. It has been so much fun shopping for the fun accessories that are available for these bags! (Bogg Bag is available here: Bogg Bag. The two Stanley tumblers were purchased here: Pink Stanley 40 oz Tumbler AND Blue Stanley 40 oz Tumbler.) Update: The color of these bags is so much prettier in sunlight. I’ll share some photos of them in better lighting in another post. The colors on the Bogg website are much better than my hastily taken photo from this morning.

I’m still wondering how the FedEx guy delivered my package to a house one street over with a name that’s not even remotely close to the name of my street. They are completely different names, and they share nothing in common. Even our house numbers are completely different, and both my house and the house where the bag was delivered have the house numbers clearly displayed on the front of the house. Soooo strange! Even if the FedEx guy thought he was on my street, why would he leave a package at a house whose house number doesn’t match the house number on the address label? The house number was displayed bigger than life alongside their front door, so there’s no way he could have thought it was the same as the one on the label.
Okay, I’m off to contact FedEx to let them know that I found my package and to let Bogg know that they don’t need to resend all new stuff. Just so happy to have solved this mystery! I felt like a detective yesterday, sorting all this out! Ha!

Tenacity pays! Good sluething work!
Thanks, Toni! It was a challenge! Wish I had found the house earlier during the day on Sunday, so I could have retrieved my package while it was still daylight yesterday instead of having to wait until this morning. My detective skills could use some polishing. lol
Good for you, Sherlock, I mean, Susan! LOL I was visualizing and chuckling as I was reading. Thanks for sharing.
Ha! It was an interesting day, for sure! I still can’t believe I was able to locate it. When I completed the form online at FedEx, I was hoping someone would see it and notify the driver so he could go back and get it and deliver it to me, but I guess they don’t monitor things like that in real time.
Such cute bags! If anyone could sleuth it out, it’s you!! So glad you found it in time. I’ve never heard of a company whose product is not delivered correctly having the customer have to purchase insurance to cover a replacement order before! Something for which I will now be checking! Thanks for the heads-up! Our daughter experienced this twice with the same “wrong house”. First with a TV and the second time it was a gift meat delivery. She was able to retrieve the TV but, sadly, the homeowners refused to give her meat delivery to her even though they knew her from the first wrong delivery. It was replaced by the company, though.
Wow, luck was with you on that adventure! I think the drivers are part of Evelyn Wood’s speed reading course and only spot the house numbers. Good thing those people didn’t report you as a porch pirate. We had a door dash delivery made on our porch in the middle of the night and our cameras picked up the delivery person leaving the food & a couple minutes later there was a person who came and retrieved the order. It was the middle of the night and we were sound asleep, so we figured it was probably a neighbor who had the munchies and tracked down their food by the picture of our porch. Kind of funny watching it unfold on the camera the next morning 🙂
Even our house numbers were different! I know, I thought about that after I got home, especially because I found out later today that the number I called yesterday that was supposedly the number for the people who live there (per our neighborhood directory) was the wrong number. Argh! At least I have the email/photo from FedEx to prove my innocence. lol
Way to go! I’m so glad you found the house and your package. I always cringe when things are being delivered here by FedEx, we’ve had some good results and some not so good with them. Last summer, I got a notification that a package from WalMart had arrived, and a picture showing it sitting by my mailbox, a good distance from the house and not anywhere near a porch. My granddaughter was visiting and she immediately went out to get it – and there was nothing there. The picture showed my mailbox clearly and all we could figure was that the driver put the box down, took the picture, and picked the box back up and kept driving. I live on a dead end street and not many vehicles had gone by. I contacted Walmart and they immediately gave me a refund, no hassle, no questions. That leads me to think this happens fairly often. The joke was on the FedEx driver, however, because the package contained size 3 pull-ups for a local foster children’s ministry. Not exactly a valuable treasure!
You can’t make this stuff up!!! What a story!!
And, they lived happily ever after!!! ❤️

I know! Still don’t understand how it got delivered to the wrong street with the wrong house number. Do you think he was listening to something via his headphones that had him completely distracted?
Yay for you. I don’t think I could have waited until next morning. Maybe the package was up closer to the door because they had notified FedEx of wrong delivery? You definitely passed 100 on this one!
It killed me to drive away, knowing it was probably either on the porch or inside the house, but it was round 8:00, so a bit late to knock on someone’s door after dark. If it had been summertime when it doesn’t get dark until 9:00, I would have done it! lol
The Boggbags are very cool! I wish they had an option to truly personalize a bag. My DIL is a designer and often has to cart around some sort of bag or container with all her carpet/tile/paint/etc. samples for each of her clients. It would be so awesome to be able to order a bag for her that had her business name on it. Maybe they’ll add that option in the future.
That would be cool! Maybe one day they will offer that…love that idea!
Wow – you ARE a detective! Nice work! It’s always great if a neighbor (or someone) moves the packages up out of direct sight of the street. The bags are so cute. Can’t wait to see the Bits. Thanks for sharing, and for hosting, as always!
Wondering what size Bogg bag you ordered to take to the pool this summer. The largest size look tremedous. They are so appealing. Love your Naps post. I just wait to see what you buy and recommend and then place my own order. Thank you!
Thanks, Sonja! I went with the most popular size and the one my daughter-in-law wanted, which is their “Original Bag” or the largest size. It is quite large but it’s perfect for holding towels, snacks, drinks, possibly a change of clothing, etc… It’s great for when you may be carrying a lot of goodies for yourself or your family. The next size down, the medium, which is also called the Baby Bog is a lot more narrow and smaller in general. It would be good for when you only need to carry a few items. You can see all three sizes here: https://bit.ly/45enpW4 .
Wow – What an adventure and so glad you found your package. I have had that happen with Amazon. In our previous home the wind would sometimes blow the package into the shrubs of the house next door. Recently ordered a Travelon purse and got the message it was delivered and signed by the concierge in our lobby. No name – which they always sign with their name. I did what you did…thinking it was left outside and looking at the cottages near our building. No luck – but Amazon sent another! The bag is adorable – use it in good health!
It was! I’m so glad you were able to get your bag replaced! I wonder who signed for it…maybe they went to the wrong building.
What I’m super impressed with is how you found their phone number to call the folks and let them know. Nextdoor.com frequently shows photos asking “does anyone recognize this porch”. That apparently works too. You went the extra mile to drive around and figure it out! Congrats on the sleuth work.
I just looked up their number in our neighborhood directory. Unfortunately, I found out today that the number is completely wrong. When I called today to leave a message saying I had picked up the package, a nice man answered and told me that they didn’t live on that street and lived much further away. So the directory is wrong. Hopefully, their neighbors won’t tell them a porch pirate hit their house while they were out of town. lol
Thanks so much for hosting this wonderful party!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!! I hope you are having a great week!!
Hugs,

Thanks, Debbie! Have a fabulous week!
Those bags are so cute! I’m so glad you were able to retrieve it.
I had something sorta-kinda similar happen to me, but from the receiving side. One day I happened to be passing my front doors and saw a bunch of grocery bags sitting on my front stoop. I was shocked because I hadn’t ordered anything. I texted my neighbors asking, but none claimed the order. So I called the delivery service to report the mis-delivery. They weren’t much help and didn’t know where the order was supposed to go. All they could tell me was that they would not be able to pick up the items and resell or redeliver them, so for me to keep them! I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking, there is someone out there planning to make dinner with this food.
Anyway, I initially left the bags there thinking someone would realize the mistake and come for them. But after a while, I decided to take them in because some of the items required refrigeration.
Then it happened. A knock on my door and an embarrassed young woman and her children were asking if I had received a delivery. She did the same thing as you, looked carefully at the porch delivery picture, got in her car and went looking. I was happy to give her her items and glad the mystery was solved.
Here’s the weird thing. Her house was in a different neighborhood, looked completely different than mine, the street names were not similar at all, the street numbers were very different, AND her house was even on the opposite side of the street. So how or why the delivery driver decided my house was the right house remains a mystery.
Well done, Sherlock! Or should I say, Ludwig? 😀
Thanks! Just wish I’d figured the mystery out earlier in the day so I could have found the package that same day.
All I can think is maybe delivery folks are literally just following what their GPS seems to be saying, even if it doesn’t match the actual delivery address. I can’t imagine doing that, though! Glad they were able to track down the groceries and find them. Amazing that she was able to do that!
Once again your patience, brilliance and tenacity amaze me. I thought up till now you were amazing but you took it to a whole new level, Susan. WOW. And OMGosh I loooove that bag and your two matching Stanleys. You are going to be SET for pool time. Isn’t this bitter cold in Ohio something else? Supposed to get lots of snow this weekend too. It’s winter. Be SURE to run very hot water through your plumbing every so often so your pipes don’t freeze. Or if you aren’t at the DH have your son just have a tiny slow drip – that helps too. Freezing bursting pipes is not something you want to happen. It’s devastating.
Aww, you are so nice, Michele! I just couldn’t stand knowing it was someone close, maybe sitting out in the weather. I think if something like that ever happens again, I’ll be better at finding it more quickly.
Thanks for that warning about the pipes. I would be beyond upset if that happened here! I’ll def take your advice!
I share your frustration. USPS, FedEx and UPS. It’s happened to me as well. I usually call them to ream them out for an illiterate driver screwing up a simple McJob. “READ the address and deliver to THAT SAME ADDRESS!”
They’re in such a rush, they deliver hundreds of packages a day. They’re literally hardly paying attention most of the time. Or they could be new on the job, or filling in from a different area. And in general, people are just more careless, low IQ, more distracted, and don’t care these days.
