Warming Up With a Fall Mantel

Though the days are still nice and warm here, there’s a definite chill in the air each evening.  I haven’t decorated my mantel this year yet, but I thought I’d share a few pics from a previous year.

Mantel Decorated for Fall

I’ve had this wreath for several years, but I still love it.  It’s probably the most realistic “faux” wreath I’ve ever come across.

Books warm up any room…you can never go wrong with a few good fireside tales.

Have some polished brass candlesticks?  Fall is a great time to pull them out…they are beautiful mixed in with any fall display.

Love the rich colors of autumn…such a gorgeous time of the year!

  1. I tackled the my mantle last week. I have a few more tables and another mantle to go….It is always such a challenge for me. Thank you for the great ideas that you shared today!

  2. All the colors are so lovely, Susan, and I love the blend of brass, foliage, leather and those pretty ceramic pumpkins. I hope you feel better soon!

  3. What beautiful Fall colours. My mantel is the only thing left undone…. my TV sits about it a few inches on the wall and I am finding it a challenge to get to my liking this year. Still tweaking.
    Have a wonderful Wednesday!!!
    Cheers, Gee

  4. This is beautiful!

  5. Wow the wreath does look real and I’m in love with the wood duck!! It all looks wonderful together!

  6. Hi, Susan!
Normally, I don’t like to be repetitive but I “MUST” say… I LOVE all the colors of your family room! So warm and cozy! (I don’t know a synonym for “LOVE”!) 😉
And your fall mantel is a dream! All your display objects are what I love the most, especially the pumpkins and of course… the books! Sooo beautiful! (I have Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, too, but it doesn’t have pictures in it.) I, too, love to involve my books when I decorate and sometimes I buy a book only because of its color (Ok, I read it too, of course 🙂 ) and because I have a particular vignette in my mind I wish to realize! Isn’t it the perfect, “artistic” way to combine the useful with the beautiful? 🙂

  7. Love it Sue! That is a very nice wreath! It’s hard to find faux that looks believable! I like the ceramic pumpkins and the open book by the candlestick! Great look!
I have yet to get my mantel done…it is my next project!
Too bad I wasn’t ready for this mantel party you’ve joined! Everyone is moving too fast for me!
I hear a lot of sinus infections are running around- I hope you didn’t catch one of those!

  8. Susan,
Your mantle is lovely. I am so eager for Autumn. We’ve had a little taste the last few days and it is so wonderful!

  9. The mantel is just beautiful. The wreath is stunning, and I love the idea of the little opened book! Lovely!!
    Nancy

  10. Each time you let us into your family room, I instantly feel cozy and would love to sit by the fire with a book. Your mantle is just lovely. I too am sick at the moment and we leave for Vegas in a few days. The only Fall thing I have done, is a wreath similar to yours on the front door. Will have to wait until we return. The duck is a nice addition. Feel better soon Susan.

  11. I’m new to subscribing to your blog but I am enjoying it so much! I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but how do you hang your wreath?

    • Welcome Diana! Glad you are here! The wreath above the fireplace is hanging on a skinny nail I have there. You don’t really notice the nail when a wreath isn’t there because it sort of just blends in with the top of the mirror that’s just below it. I use that same nail at Christmastime to for a Christmas wreath.

  12. I love the warm tones too and have lots of orange/red in my living room, so Fall to me is a great welcome…where did you get your lovely firescreen? It is so beautiful!

  13. Love the mantel and the cardinals on that fireplace screen are gorgeous.

    Cynthia

  14. I love your mantel. Very warm and charming. But what I really covet is your fireplace screen. That is absolutely gorgeous.

  15. Lovely mantle, yes the wreath is so real looking!

  16. Beaautiful mantle Susan…I have yet to do mine either…hopefully soon…I just love the way you kept the book open with the candlestick…..great effect..

  17. So pretty I had to pin it!

  18. This is absolutely gorgeous! You can come to my house and decorate any time!

  19. Your mantle is so warm and inviting…perfect for the season. I welcome Fall!

  20. So beautiful and homey. A perfect touch of Fall.

  21. i adore your warm cozy colors … and the books! just lovely!

  22. Help I need ideas for an adult Halloween party. I am new to entertaining and think the table should have height but do not know how to accomplish that. The table will hold appetizers and snacks for 30 plus ! Any suggestions would be great!!
    Sherri

    • Sherri, I’m probably going to be creating a table setting soon that will have a fairly tall centerpiece. So stay tuned for that. In the meantime, check out some of the tablescapes linked here: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/tablescapes-h/
If you can find some old brass candlestick or candlelabras that aren’t in the greatest shape…at a thrift store or flea market, you can paint them black for a dramatic centerpiece with height. You’ll see a couple of table settings where I’ve used the black candlelabras at that link above.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
