Welcome to the 848th Tablescape Thursday! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you! I hope you’re having a wonderful week and spending as much as possible with family and friends! Before Christmas gets by us for another year, I have to share this delightful table setting Elena created this year for her Christmas feast.
Elena said, “So when I did the Christmas train tablescape last year, it was very close to Christmas and I had no time to work on a small layout……..but boy did I have some ideas!” Do you remember Elena’s Christmas table from last year with the cute train-themed centerpiece and Better Homes and Gardens train plates?
Well, just wait until you see what Elena did for this year! Her train-themed table now has a whole village inside, and it’s not just any village! Elena created a charming village that gives homage to three iconic Christmas movies, those movies we love to watch over and over again during the Christmas season!
Elena said, “Some of the kid’s favorite Christmas specials came to mind like Rudolph and Peanuts, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, etc., but they were just not going to work in such a small train layout. Then I got the idea of using a Christmas movie, well SEVERAL Christmas movies! The only one I could not find any N-scale buildings for was Christmas Vacation, so I decided on Home Alone, A Christmas Story and It’s a Wonderful Life.”
“I have been working on this on and off throughout the past year, and save a few things I could not find, I am very pleased with the way it turned out. Most of the buildings are plastic kits that have to be glued together and painted. A few are 3D printed and just needed to be painted. I have hidden the battery-operated transformer in the bank building so you don’t see it. It was a lot of work, but so fun to do! I used the same settings as last year and did not put glassware on the table on purpose this time so I could take the photos.”
Home Alone: Elena said, “At one end is, Home Alone……Kevin’s house is complete with his tree house in the backyard and the jockey statue at the front door. I just wish I could find a ’70s car and pizza delivery boy for the back door!”
Elena said, “Even the trash cans are there for him to fall over!”
Oh my gosh, the tree house is perfect!
“Across the street is old man Marley’s house…..I’m still looking for a figure with a snow shovel and a bucket of sand!”
A Christmas Story: Elena said, “At the other end of the layout is A Christmas Story. Ralphie’s house is there with the old man’s car in the driveway.”
“Better watch it, Bart’s gang is taking over the backyard!”
A view from overhead shows Ralphie’s house and the school just around the corner.
Elena said, “If we walk to school, we can see Flick took on the triple dog dare and is stuck to the flag pole! Not to worry, the police and the fire department have come to the rescue!”
Elena said, “Higbee’s department store is ready for Christmas shoppers……..and the town square is across the street anticipating the Christmas parade! Oh, how I wish I could have found an N-scale marching band for that one!” I know Elena will continue to add pieces throughout the year, and this table setting will wonderfully grow with each passing Christmas. We will need a yearly update at Christmastime to see what has been added!
Elena said, “My family gave me an N-scale trolley to add to the layout!”
“There is now—a red and white trolley that can be seen in the movie in front of Higbee’s department store and some scenes downtown!”
It’s A Wonderful Life: Elena said, “The middle is home to Bedford Falls from the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life.”
“Main Street has Potter’s Bank building with The Bailey Brother’s Building and Loan across the street. Gower’s Pharmacy is there also.”
“The Train Station is at one end. Martini’s Bar, and the bridge where George met Clarence can also be seen.”
Martini’s Bar…
“George and Mary’s old Victorian house is up on the hill……….look for Ernie’s taxi and Bert’s cop car on Main Street as well.”
Love this wonderful Christmas movie table setting so much! It makes me want to binge-watch all three of these movies today! The only one I’ve seen so far this season has been Home Alone. What Christmas movies have you watched this year?
Thanks so much to Elena for sharing her delightful movie-themed tablescape! I can’t wait to see what she adds to it for next year!
Looking forward to the beautiful table settings linked below for this week’s Tablescape Thursday!
If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links. Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.
You have done it again! OMG, just love all of it….
Thank you so much Judy!!!
Elena, I love miniatures. You are so creative and stuck to the theme and movie details. I love it !
Susan, now that you live in a dollhouse, are you going to buy the dollhouse we talked about previously ? Have you made your project list for 2025 ?
Thank You Myrna! I really enjoyed working on it!
Oh my gosh what a fabulous table!! Elena has pulled out all the stops this year. And I’m with you, I can’t wait to see what additions and changes each year will bring. It’s a Wonderful Life is one of my favorite movies, holiday or not, and her representation is excellent – even the car crashed into the tree! Thanks so much for sharing, both of you, and for hosting, as always Susan! Hope your post-Christmas week is wonderful too!
Thanks so much Barbara!!!! I may try to get that trolley moving!!!
This is just about the best Christmas centerpiece I’ve ever seen. So nostalgic and sweet. Yes, I hope we will get an update every year to see what has been added.
It’s hard to find what I want that small but I will keep trying!!!! Thank You!!
Susan, thanks for sharing Elena’s adorable tablescape!! What a clever idea! Love all the details. I hope you enjoyed your first Christmas holiday in the Dollhouse. Looking forward to your 2025 posts! Sheryl
“A Christmas Story” is one of my favorite holiday movies, and I like this tablescape very much. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Nan!! I have been watching all three movies all year for inspiration!
Oh my gosh, this is fabulous Elena! The details are amazing and I, too, can’t wait to see what new additions you might bring next year. Thanks for sharing Susan and happy Boxing Day to you both!
Same to you Kim and Thank You for the kind words!!!
Wow! This is fantastic, Elena! You were a master at creating those realistic looking snowy streets. I hope you keep that special village elsewhere in your house when it’s not part of a tablescape. I have those BHG train plates and absolutely love them. This Christmas table was truly a winner.
Thank you SO much Martha! My son wanted to really fill the It’s a Wonderful Life main street with snow and ruts where the cars had driven………..that just may happen!!!!
OH MY GOODNESS!!! Elena you have the mind of a designer and the patients of a saint. This is the most amazing tablescape I’ve ever seen. So imaginative. I anxiously await for next years production. TFS the joy and your genius.
Thank you Susan for bringing Elena’s work of art to us.
OH MY! Thank you for the accolades, but to be totally honest, my husband and I own a train and hobby shop!!! LOL!!! Our son helped me out with the layout and buildings, I did the work myself but it was easier to have the experts around to ask questions! Have a Happy New Year!!!!
Really enjoyed this tour of your tablescape. Love Bart’s Gang-they really show up. My DVD wouldn’t play my movies so I missed Miracle on 34th St, it happened on 5th Ave and the Bishop’s Wife. I also have A Christmas Carol with Reginald Owens and won’t watch the other versions. I seen all 3 of “your theme” shows on tv plus Christmas Vacation and Christmas with the Kranks but that was about it. They seem to show less and less every year. I love the original cartoon of Grinch but all they showed was the Jim Carey one which I don’t care for. That’s why I try to buy all the DVD’s of my favs. Now I’ll have to watch DVD’s on my desk top. My newer laptop doesn’t have a player. Happy New Year.
Thank You Sandra! Luckily we have all three on DVD…….I had to watch them all year to choose buildings, paint them correctly etc. Can’t always find what you want to watch on streaming services!!!
How fun!! A Christmas Story is an all-time favorite of mine, and you depicted it perfectly!! Some of the BEST scenes from the film!! Love the flagpole scene, Black Bart, and the house on Cleveland Street!!! Just so adorable!! Bravo!
Thank you SO much Darling!!!! I had a lot of fun working on it!!!!
