Pocket Fold Napkin Folding Tutorial

A couple of weeks ago, I posted this summer tables setting for Tablescape Thursday. (You can see more pics of this tablescape here: Summertime Table Setting Tablescape with a Floral Centerpiece of Roses and Daisies.)

Summer Table Setting Tablescape with Floral Centerpiece of Roses and Daisies

Several folks expressed an interest in how this napkin fold is achieved. It’s soooo easy…you’re gonna love it. So, let’s get started. By the way, if you have a napkin with a monogram or decorative design in one corner, that works best for this type napkin fold.

Just follow the steps below…

This pic just shows it folded in half…

All done. 🙂

If you prefer, you can fold the back flaps down to create the point at the bottom of the napkin, instead of at the top. (See below.) This way does allow more space for the forks at the top but you can’t tuck them quite as far down into the napkin pocket. Either way looks great!

  25. I usually have trouble following directions for napkin folding–they usually seem more like origami 🙂 These are clear and concise! Thank you!

  26. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Hi Busy as can be…those came from Neiman Marcus 3-4 years ago…

Ames, I normally just shake out the napkin and then gather it together and poke it into the glass. If it doesn't quite look right, I just do it again. I don't really have a system. On one tablescape a while back, I had put the napkins away in a folded states and when I tucked them into the glasses the next time I used them, I just left them folded. I think that was the last 4th of July table I created. You can see it under the Tablescape Inspiration heading at the top.

  27. Hi Susan:

  47. My all-time favorite of your tables! Thanks for the tutorial, Susan.

  48. I love it! I've tried to do that one before and I didn't have much success. Probably because I didn't have good directions (with pictures.) I haven't been on for awhile because I was having trouble getting the pictures to load and though I love your writing, without the pictures I just wasn't getting the whole benefit. Thankfully I figured out it was a modem problem so, YAY, I had no trouble tonigth. As for your question, I'd love to see more napkin folding techniques.
