In The BNOTP Library: African Safari Journal

Though this book isn’t a decor book, I’ve enjoyed it so much during the time I was preparing for my trip, I wanted to share it with you in case you have any interest in traveling to or learning about Africa and the birds and animals who inhabit this area.

African Safari Journal by Mark W. Nolting

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • The name of this book is very misleading because it’s so much more than a “journal.” When I think journal, I think of a book filled with blank pages for recording thoughts and experiences had during a trip. African Safari Journal is filled with tons of information about how to best prepare for a trip to Africa. Though the book was written a few years ago, the information inside totally matched up to with what I’ve read and been told from folks who have traveled to Africa recently. So I found this book to be very timely.
  • There’s an entire section devoted to the mammals who call Africa home. It includes beautiful color illustrations of each animal for easy identification, as well as behavior notes (some humorous) and a little box you can check to notate when you have spotted that particular animal on your trip. There’s another whole section devoted to the Birds of Africa, again with beautiful color illustrations, information about their habits and behavior, and a box to check when you’ve seen that bird.
  • There’s also an actual “journal” section with blank pages to document your experiences during your visit. There’s so much in this book including a “resource” section and maps of the different countries.. There’s just too many neat things in this book to list them all in one post. I heartily recommend this book to anyone planning a future trip to Africa.

  1. I am so confused. I thought you were going to Italy!

When I was a little girl I loved lions and tigers and thought sure I would have some as pets when I grew up. I loved the idea of an African Safari; though not to hunt the animals, but to observe them in their natural habitat. It seemed quite plausible to me, as so many movies and tv shows of that era depicted people with dealing with big friendly lions. And Africa was a popular theme for several movies of the time, as well. Remember that tv show, Daktari? Lol. I never did get any big cats to keep as pets 😀 and I’ve yet to take that safari, but who knows … maybe some day yet. Seeing you prepare to go, and now on your way, and all the many wonderful posts and pictures we will get from your personal journey makes me think I may still have a chance. This book definitely looks like a must have for such a trip. Maybe even just for dreamers.

  3. This sounds like the perfect companion for your trip. It will be especially helpful when you come home and are going through your pictures and can’t remember the name of a bird or animal you photographed. As Martha would say….this is a good thing!

  4. Enjoy your trip!
