A room without books is like a body without a soul. ~Cicero
When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes. ~Desiderius Erasmus
I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.~Anna Quindlen “Enough Bookshelves,” New York Times, August 7, 1991
I love books. I love decorating. The book I’m sharing today combines both of those things because it takes us into the homes and libraries of 40 booklovers, many of them names you would recognize, and shows us how they store and care for their books.

3 Things I Like About This Book:
- My favorite homes were the ones where books are stacked high in front of beautiful Chinese porcelain or exquisite antiques. It’s obvious their love of books is as important, if not more, than the beautiful furnishings.
- Loved seeing all the gorgeous antiques sprinkled throughout the book, including the beautiful old library ladders.
- The stories that accompany the photographs of these 40 individual home libraries are delightful and interesting. We get a peek into the libraries of famous designers, literary greats, a famous rock star and even the Duke of Devonshire seen napping in his library below. 🙂

Oh Susan,
I don’t know this book but I already love it just because it’s all about… books! 🙂
I think it’s gonna be my favorite book of yours… (at least until you show us the next one…lol)
Susan, I gave a look inside and I really WANT that wallpaper in pic #5! 🙂
~Hugs to you~

PS: I almost forgot to say, I love all those quotes! And I fully agree with all of them!
Cecilia, is that the one that looks like colorful bookshelves? I love that paper, too! Wouldn’t it be great in a bathroom? lol 🙂
Yep, Susan.
I love books so very much that I really believe that paper would look great in every room, even in a kitchen! LOL (I’m that “crazy”… you know…) 🙂
🙂
I love the look of all of the book!
Thanks, Hildreth
Susan, I have book plates bought in England at Jane Austen’s museum and her quote on the plate is:
“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything other than of a book.
When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library”.
Jane Austen
Love that quote, Megan…and I couldn’t agree more!
Hi Susan,
Love your posts about the books. I have purchased several and have more on my wish list. I too have books everywhere. Nobody that I know understands this including my family, they think it is money wasted. Glad to know others feel this way too. Also, love your other posts, especially the do it yourself projects, makes me almost think I could build something, your instructions are that good. Ha!
Thanks, Joyce…yes, you are in good company! I’d much rather have books than the latest fashion or clothes any day! Awww, thanks…if I can built or fix something, trust me…anyone can! 🙂
