If you’ve been reading BNOTP for a while, you may remember when I made rose-scented sugar and shared the recipe here on the blog. The book I’m sharing today is where I found that special recipe.
In the BNOTP Library: Roses for the Scented Room: Beautiful Ideas for Entertaining, Gift-giving and the Home
Author: Barbara Milo Ohrbach
3 Things I Like About This Book:
- If you ever see a book for sale by Barbara Milo Ohrbach, buy it on the spot. I have five of her books and love them all. The photography in this book, as in all of Barbara’s books, is beautiful!
- You’ll find directions for making the scented sugar I made in the post, How to Make Rose Scented Sugar, inside this book. You’ll also find information for making rose-scented potpourri, sachets, honey, talcum powder, rose-water, Strawberry-Rose Sorbet, Rose Ice Cubes and many other lovely rose-scented concoctions.
- There’s a chapter showing how to arrange roses in vases and other containers. Chapters are titled: All About Roses, Selecting, Drying, The Rose Pantry, Lotions and Potions, Arranging, Potpourri and Sachets, Silk and Dried Decorations, Entertaining and Rose Gardens Around the World.
* This book contains so many wonderful tips for recipes and entertaining, I’m filing it under that category as well as under the gardening category. You’ll find other books I’ve featured under those two categories here:
Featured Books on Gardening
Featured Books on Entertaining & Tablescaping

This book looks like a lot of fun. I must try your rose scented sugar. I love all the books you show. I want everyone of them. Have a wonderful day.
I totally agree that her books are great! The first one I got years ago was The Scented Room. I liked it so much, I’ve given it as gifts off and on over the years. Just last weekend when I was browsing at one of the local thrift shops, I spotted her “Tablescapes: Easy, Practical, Beautiful Ways to Decorate the Table” in like new condition for $1.50. Couldn’t pass that up! Thanks for sharing the info about the Roses one. I’ll add that one to book list.
That was a great deal, Terri! All her books are so beautiful…I love the pictures! Do you have the one she wrote about antiques? If you don’t, you have to get it! It’s called Antiques at Home and it’s wonderful!
I do have Antiques at Home. I think we have the same taste in books. I just recently found your blog, so I am reading your older posts as I get time. I like all your blog topics, and I am like a kid in the candy store. As far as the book review topic, I am finding that I have several that you have reviewed, and the ones that I don’t are being added to the ever-growing book wish list 🙂
I spent some time last night revisiting the books written by Barbara that I have in my library, and then checking online to see what else she has written. In addition to wanting the Roses book in your review, I saw a few that are collections of thoughts, quotes, recipes, and that type of thing. I don’t have any in that category, but they looked interesting.
It’s my on my list to get!
Thanks-so-much!
🙂
