I wasn’t planning a wedding when I purchased this book several years ago, but because it’s by Mary Carol Garrity, one of my favorite designers and authors, I knew it would be filled with wonderful ideas I could use when entertaining. It didn’t disappoint!

Author: Mary Carol Garrity
3 Things I Like About This Book:
- Mary Carol shares all the intimate details of planning a wedding in her home for her daughter. I knew the pictures in this book would be amazing since Mary Carol lived (at that time) in a beautiful historic home. They are wonderful! The picture of her entry decorated for the wedding is beyond beautiful! It was worth buying the book just for that! I still can’t get the image of the umbrella stand filled with tall, elegant black umbrellas, topped with beautiful, ornate silver-plated handles out of my mind! Just a beautiful book all the way through.
- Mary Carol is very open and honest in this book about the stresses of planning a home wedding, including awakening at 3 AM to the sound of lightning and thunder and being unable to go back to sleep since so much of the festivities were to take place in her backyard. In her amazing style, she pulls it all off beautifully!
- Whether you’re planning a wedding in the near future or not, this book has lots of great ideas for preparing and decorating for any special occasion, including floral arrangements, seating ideas, invitations, table settings, decorating and more. There’s also a section with information and tips for hosting a bridal shower.

I felt so lucky when I pkd up this book at a thrift shop for a dollar! It’s a nice book.
Have enjoyed every detail,

I looked at the few photos from the preview on Amazon, and there is some sort of wreath on the front door but I can’t tell what it is. Does it say in the book what shape it is?
It doesn’t say in the book that I could find and it took me a while to figure it out when I first saw that picture. It’s the letters K and B. Mary Carol’s daughter’s name is Kelly and her husband’s name is Britt. The K is at the top…it’s a little hard to see because the dark door knocker sort of fills in the top of the K, but there’s a gap there if you look closely. There’s a little bouquet of roses in the center of the K. Then the leg of the K connects to the top/stem of the B. It’s sort of a stylized B.
Just bought it! Love the books you pick.
I am planning a wedding in my backyard for my daughter….I didn’t even finish reading your blog before I bought this book. Thank you!! I know I will love it.
When I moved to my new home and met my next door neighbor for the first time, I saw a huge stack of Mary Carol’s decorating books right in the entry hall. Knew we were destined to be the best of friends! BTW, I live just just minutes from her store Nell Hills.
Oh, Hope…I’m jealous! I’ve always wanted to shop in one of her stores. It’s like a 11-12 hour drive from my home. Probably a good thing I don’t live too close, my pocket book would suffer for it! 😉
