In The BNOTP Library: Pleasures of the Porch

With warm weather here at last (we hit 80° today and it’s 74° as I type this at 10:00 at night) I have all things “porch” on the brain. Time to share another favorite porch book!

Pleasures of the Porch by Daria Price Bowman

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • Pleasures of the Porch is another great porch book filled with lots of pictures of beautiful porches. I don’t know about you, but I get great ideas and learn so much about what I want when designing/decorating a room or outdoor space by looking at pictures of real spaces, so pictures are always an important part of any book I add to my library. This book provides lots of ideas for design and decor via the photos.
  • There’s a whole chapter dedicated to ideas for furnishing and decorating porches. Prepare to drool! Another chapter covers plants that are great for porches or for growing on surrounding supports. Lots of good info to spark ideas.
  • I like the information given regarding the history of the porch and how it has evolved over the years.  Porches have been around for ages and for good reason. Your blood pressure drops 10 points the minute you walk onto a shady, cool porch, hopefully with a glass of ice tea, wine or fruity drink in hand. 🙂

Comments

  1. Appreciate these recent porch book reviews. And your weather reports 😉 It is in the 50s today with up to 40mph gusts, so I am encouraged to hear that spring is on its way north!

  2. I’m originally from Los Angeles so porches were never a big thing for us. It wasn’t until I got stationed in Hawaii that I began to love the back patios or “Lanais”. Then when I got stationed in Florida I then fell in love with porches, especially side ones off the kitchen. But now I am just in love with all porches, especially with swings. But I love yours. Covered and screened in. Get the breeze without the bugs.

  3. Susan, I have had this book for years, and referred to it several times when helping either clients or myself do a little porch design. It’s a great book! Liz http://www.HometoCottage.com

  4. I always enjoy a post about books and your post is no exception. I was pleasantly surprised to see you often write about books you like!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
