Candy’s Beautiful Porch Addition

One of the best parts of blogging is receiving e-mails and photos from readers of BNOTP. Candy e-mailed back in September to let me know she had been so inspired after seeing my screened in porch, she decided to add a screened-in porch on to the back of her home. Along with the photos of her porch, she wrote: “It is truly a work in progress. Thank you for your blog; if it wasn’t for your porch, I would still be sitting on a lawn chair on a slab of concrete.”

Here’s the way Candy’s home looked before she added her porch.

This photo shows the early stages of construction. You can really tell it’s going to be a nice, large porch!

Starting to take shape, now. I like how she kept the knee wall nice and low. That’s a great idea because at that height, it won’t obstruct the view when you’re sitting and looking out across your yard.

The screens and door are in place now. Let’s go inside.

Candy furnished her porch with lots of beautiful, white wicker. I love white wicker…I know that comes as no surprise. 🙂 Candy created a wonderful spot for having breakfast or evening dinners.

There’s a cozy spot for visiting with a friend or just reading while soaking up the cool breezes. Candy used tongue and groove “yellow wood” for her flooring. She said, “Not so much as a mosquito can get through it.” Awesome! That’s what screened-in porches are all about!

I love the chaise. I think this is where I’d live! There’s even a flat-screened TV so you can watch the game while cooking out on the grill or lounging on the porch.

What a beautiful swing…the pillows make it comfy and cozy.

Candy thanks so much for sharing your beautiful porch! I know you are looking forward to entertaining friends and family in this awesome space this summer. I’ll be sharing some information and helpful tips soon regarding things you may wish to consider when adding a porch to your home. It’s Springtime and I have serious porch fever!

Good morning from Frog Hollow Farm! What a great porch and wonderful space – it's nice to know that you inspired someone to create a space like that! We are gearing up for the warmer weather and entertaining on our covered porch – adding it on to our home created an unbelievable space for sitting and enjoying a quiet evening or entertaining 30 people! Ciao, bella!

  2. What a nice project! As an architect I am a truly lover of home improvement. Love your home and life will be much happier!

  3. Her porch turned out beautifully! Love the wicker furniture. The chaise and swing, I could spend all day alternating between the two! Thanks for sharing!

  7. My Little World says

It turned out rather pretty, perfect as a breakfast room too.

  8. We are in the process of converting our covered deck into a screened porch. We need to replace the deck with a mosquito proof floor. Every option we have checked so far is very expensive. I'm curious what "tongue and groove yellow floor" is…can you be more specific? Maybe that's a good option for us.

  9. Fabulous job. You are an inspiration. If only our weather was more cooperative I would try something like this. I can just imagine the lovely dinners and laughter with guest on this porch.

  10. Great porch. Candy did a super job planning that! I think screening makes a huge difference.

We have a nice side porch but with the mosquitos and flies in the summer, I hate sitting out there. Now if it were screened in, ahhhhhhhhhhhh, nice to dream. Susan

Mmmm screened in porch maybe you are starting something. Thanks for your comments. I have to say. When I started telling my 17 year old son the story about the wall mural I started bawling again. It was the "I love you, Mom." part. he got up and hugged me and said Oh I love you Mom! such sweet boys!

Mme Classy Lady has no blog she is a client. My jaw dropped when I saw her home. Most of the pictures she sent me via email. Just wait to see her gardens! Just beautiful.

Thanks for your comments and hosting a wonderful link party. I do enjoy.
    Au revoir

Wow, great job. I have screen porch and I must be honest for the past 5 years I have no idea what to do with it. I would love it to be a place to go out and relax. Hopefully this summer I could do something with it.

  14. Such a great porch. I would love to have a screened in one, but I'd end up having to build it myself and I'm not that handy with power saws yet.

  32. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

    Jocelyn,
Mine came from Pier 1 and it's outdoor wicker except for the coffee table and dining set.
Candy said she ordered her's from Home Depot online last year. I've seen it in Old Time Pottery and Target in year's past. Outdoor wicker is best for a porch due to temp extremes.
