Weekend Antiquing Trip

Recently, when I was out antiquing in Roswell, Georgia, I came across a Christmas tree and yes, it was  pink!  Beverly, at How Sweet the Sound is hosting Pink Saturday so stop by and check it out.

Look at all the wonderful vintage ornaments I found nearby…and yep…some were pink.

Check out these forks! Can you guess why they are shaped this way?

Here’s a little sign that explains…

Do you have any odd forks that you aren’t using? They could be used to display a favorite photo, as place card holders or to hold a cute pink plate like you see here.

Not everything I saw this day was pink, but I couldn’t resist sharing a few more of the lovely things I found. I loved this etched cloche. It was priced at $52…a bit steep for my purse…but beautiful, all the same.

This wonderful Art Nouveau buffet is made from fruit wood. The card said it was made in Italy between 1900 and 1920. It started out at $4,750 and has been marked down several times…last price was $3,295. The carvings and leaded glass are stunning!

Remember when Michael at (Designs by Gollum) did that fabulous post about Trapp candles? Well, I’ve been on the look out for some ever since. I was so excited when I came across them here in this shop. Of course, I had to try Gollum’s favorite scent, Orange-Vanilla. I also bought a Jasmine-Gardenia one. As I sit here creating this post, I’m enjoying the Orange-Vanilla candle and it’s heavenly. 🙂

The Orange-Clove was amazing, too. I had to smell every last one of them before I decided on the two I bought. 🙂

I think these would have worked well in the Thanksgiving “hunt” themed tablescape I posted recently…you can see it by clicking here. They were priced at $16.50 each…not bad.

Now this you have to see!!! The little sign described it as an “incredible AMI upright Orchestrian Player Piano.” Inside the piano you have the whole band! I think that’s a xylophone up front. Can you see the drum on the left side?

You can see a triangle in the back, as well as a tambourine and a cymbal. The sign said the piano works, but the rest is in non-working order. In working condition, it is said to be valued at between 15,000 to 18,000. It was priced at $2,500….and I think it was 40% off that! Working or not, I thought it was pretty amazing.

Need a bar for your finished terrace level/rec room?

Saw this cute pillow and thought, “hey…that’s my cat!” 🙂

Max refuses to tell me if he was the model for this pillow, but look at the tip of the tail and that girth…I think there’s no denying it! 🙂

Hope you enjoyed our little shopping trip. Have a great weekend!

Well let me be this first preSaturday blogger to post on Pink Saturday! 🙂
THANKS FOR SOME GREAT IDEAS I got from this post! I have one of those little fork stands that I use to hold business cards, BUT I have some sweet little tiny plates and now I know how I can display them! (I wonder if they are coasters). Also I have antlers from my dh’s hunting trips that I decorate with but never thought until now to turn them into candle holders! Brilliant! Love this post!

  2. Oh I’m laughing at Max’s “girth”! 🙂 What a fun post! I love the idea of using the forks as “holders”…what a pretty and unique idea! 🙂 L~

  3. salmagundi says

As always enjoyed the antiquing trip. I have made those fork stands before – they are the perfect size to hold antique post cards. That cat pillow is an amazing likeness – did you buy it? Have a good weekend. Sally

  4. profenretraite says

Hi Susan…Please tell me you came home with the Max pillow!! You found some really unusual things. I love those Trapp candles, too. They make the whole house smell so good. My favorite is Macintosh. Did you smell Bob’s Flower Shop? It smells like fresh flowers! Are your feet tired from standing all day? Madison was fun. I’m going to post pics this weekend! Have a great evening…Debbie

  5. Hi Susan! This was so cool… I just smiled through your entire post. Did you guy Max’s pillow? It looked like a keeper! ♥ Diane

  6. I love the fork stands. I was trying to figure out how they are made. That should be a fairly easy thing to make I would think. Great idea for small plates. Love your pinks!!

  7. Hi Susan, I sure enjoyed the pink antiquiing. You know I have a dome just like the etched one you showed but I don’t remember paying that much for it. BTW, I posted my X’mas decor on RMS, check them out when you have a chance…..Christine

  8. Those fork stands are just so adorable…will need to try to bend one and try it. Max has such wonderful markings, and yes he could very well have been the super model. :)EllenL

  9. Hi Susan! First of all, I think I have to tell you your little Max has been moonlighting as a cat model! lol That pillow is precious. Love all your antiquing stores! I love those little fork easels. I think I could make some of these!
    Be a sweetie,
    shelia 😉

  10. Mary Ellen (megardengal) says

I love that pink tree! and I love those fork easels!!! I just was given a ton of silverplate and would love to make some of these- Would you think you would have to heat the fork up somehow to do this or just take some needlenose pliers and have a go?

One of these days I am going to join the Tablescape Tuesday- I love looking at all the pretty tables just don’t seem to think to take pictures of my settings-

    Blessings
    mary

  11. I think Max owes you an agent’s fee, after all you take care of him.
That piano was very complicated considering it’s original capability. I can understand the markdown since parts of it no longer work. I don’t know if it is a fair price for a used piano however, unless you intended to restore it.
I have always thought of the smell of gardenias as about the most wonderful smell in nature. Unfortunately if you get close enough to the petal of a flower to touch it, it turns brown. It seems like it is saying “you can look but don’t touch”. I think there used to be a perfume fragrance called White Shoulders that smelled like gardenias. That was long ago, and I may be wrong.

  12. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Sally, Debbie Diane…I didn’t buy the Max pillow but now that I’ve compared it to the living breathing version, I have GOT to go back and buy it. I think it was meant to be in my house…hope it’s still there! 🙂

  13. I have an award for you! ♥ Diane

  14. I enjoyed every single moment!
    Now let’s have tea! 🙂

  15. Linda/ "Mom..." says

SHAME on you, SS!! How C-O-U-L-D you LEAVE w/o that "MAX PILLOW"?!?!?!?!? You had BETTER get a move on, first thing in the a.m., to run back & get that before it's gone, never to be seen or available again! It's soooooo "your MAX"~~~ and soooooo "your special touch" in that "SPECIAL SUSAN HOME" of yours! Happpy weekend hugs, Sweetie! Thanks for the fun!!! XO, Linda

  16. What a lovely idea to go antiquing on pink Saturday and look for pink too. I love it all and the forkstandard is a splendid idea.

  17. Hi Susan…I was also wondering if you bought the Max pillow…you’ve got to have it! This was a most interesting shop…pricier than The Classy Flea though. Please sign me up for Tablescape Tuesday!
    😉 Bo

  18. If only you could install a scratch ‘n sniff on your post…I am dying to smell the Orange-Clove candle! Love that pink tree.

  19. Scooterblu's Whimsy~Rhonda says

Good Morning, Susan! I did enjoy this trip! Only wish I could have seen this great place in person! Great items! Love the vintage Christmas ornaments! ~Rhonda 🙂

  20. Hi susan, I just read you did not buy the Max pillow??!! I hope they are open today, you have to get it. That is so unusual to find something so perfect that represents something so personal in your life. I am suprised it didn’t have an aura around it with music playing and calling your name. You see that is what I tell hubby when I by something new and bring it home and show hime. “I had to buy it because…” Another great post from our Susan, Thanks for taking all the time it does to keep doing this. We would really miss you if you didn’t do your wonderful blog.smiles to you, Kathysue

  21. Good morning Susan,
What a fun tour for pink saturday. That cabinet is amazing! It also would be fun to have a space for that great corner bar! :0)

  22. Donna@designson47thstreet says

I’m back. How could I have forgotten to comment on Max and his pillow? Yes, I do think he modeled for it. LOL. That is so cute. The tip of his tail is the tell all. So funny. Go get it!

  23. GABRIELA DELWORTH says

    Happy Pink Saturday!

Love your PINK Christmas tree, I have been looking for one…

    ~ Gabriela ~

  24. Happy Pink Saturday! That pillow sure does look like your cat.
I’m having a giveaway through Monday night, so stop on by!

  25. Good morning girlie… shame on you.. I hope you’re off on a mission today to pick up the pillow.. It’s one of those “must” haves. It looks like they borrowed Maxx as model…I really enjoyed all the vintage oranments…anything old really speaks to my heart… Thanks for taking the time to swing by… (thought you might recognize the candlesticks..lol) Now, off with you girl.. go forth and conquer and bring the pillow home..
    hugs ~lynne~

  26. I enjoyed his post so much. What beautiful pictures of beautiful treasures. I hope you bought that pillow, but I’m afraid you left it there, since you didn’t tell us you bought it. You need that pillow that your cat inspired someone to make. laurie

  27. imjacobsmom says

Wouldn’t that piano be a fun addition to a family room. I bet Jacob could get it working…..Hurry up a long and get your pillow – it would be cute in your family room. Hope you are having a Happy Pink Saturday! ~ Robyn

  28. Hi Susan! Boy did I enjoy this trip! I love beautiful things, even if I’m to frugal to buy. Count me in on this weeks tablescape. Have a great weekend! Deb

  29. cedwards55 says

That pink tree is a hoot! Hoping that you find time to go pick up that Max pillow! He’ll probably carry it off and make it his own. What an incredible likeness! Have a great weekend.

  30. oh my that SOO looks like your cat! I would have so bought that. Too many coincidences not to display.

  31. Melissa Miller says

Beautiful~ Thanks for sharing. Did you get the pillow?

  32. What a fun post Susan, you know how all of us love to go on shopping trips with you! That fork idea is so clever..did you buy those horn candleholders for your china? Love the smell of gardenias and jasmine, together or apart! (Glenda, I did not know the petals turn brown when you touch them) They always remind me of being in Hawaii with all that natural fragrance intoxicating you to stay. The large corner bar was quite interesting, it looked pretty massive so you’d need a big area for it? Finally, Max HAD to have posed for that pillow, so we hope you quickly called to have them save it for you. Have a wonderful weekend, Jan (jjlmnaz)

  33. wow, I’d love to antiquing with you! You have such a good eye for great things! That art nouveau cabinet made my jaw drop. So pretty – so far out of my range. But we can still look, can’t we?

    Have a great pink Saturday.

  34. lvroftiques says

Oh boy!! I always love me a good shopping with Susan post!! That piano was sooo interesting! Doesn’t it seem like one that Gloria would have? And how wonderful it would be if it could be repaired so it played all its instruments together again! And I can’t believe you passed on that pilla!! But on the positive side it doesn’t look like anyone elses cat as your Max is sooo obviously the model for it! *winks* That’s jus too cool! I’ve never tried the trapp candles but if you ,gollum and Debbie love em…they must be good stuff! So I’ll be on the hunt for those. Oh and I wanty wanty that bar! I’d love a wee touch of ole England! OK and a little bit bigger than “wee” touch of some good Christmas spirits (the kind that come in a glass) right about now! I still need to decorate my tree!! Gotta go! *winks* Vanna

  35. OMG!!!! I vcan not even believe you passed on the Max pillow!!! I hope by now you have it in your wonderful home!!!! And how about the antler candle holders for your tablescape???? GET THEM TOO!!! Now hurry up, if you haven’t gone yet:):) I loved “shopping” with you! Wish we really could do that! Hope you come to RMS to see all my new posts…please:) Hugs and love, Pinky

  36. Hi Susan… What a wonderful place full of great things… great Pink post today… and I loved the entire added bonus’s… Did you by the cat pillow?? Have a great Saturday…

    (((HUGS)))
    Donna

  37. Happy Pink Saturday, Susan. I loved going antiquing with you.

  38. I love the fork idea. Thank you for sharing this with us; curious, what did you end of bring home with you?

  39. That bar is the bar of Young gollum’s dreams. It looks straight out of a Dublin pub. Love it!
    Get you that pillow, girl!

And please sign me up for Tablescape Tuesday — I have the strawberry dishes in my grubby little hands.
    🙂

  41. What a fun post. I feel like I got to go to the Antique Mall and I didn’t have to leave my house!! Those forks…who thinks of this stuff. How cool!!

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  42. Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality says

Oh, this takes me back to GA, Roswell has some great antique shopping. I have to tell you, I used to have a cat named Max & he looks SO much like your Max. Unfortunately, he got out one night several years ago & I never found him again. He had such a fun & mischieveous personality! Your Max is a cutie.

  43. Hi Susan, What a beautiful cabinet!I have the perfect place for it.I guess i could dream.Your little max is so cute!! Wish i could give him a big hug…Kathy

  44. Raggedy Girl says

What lovely things to look at and I love Max with his black and white face. I had a really nice visit.
    Roberta Anne

  45. Hi Susan, i just loved that cabinet! I have the perfect spot for it! I guess i could dream.Little max is just so cute i want to give him a big hug…Kathy

  46. Susan, what an amazing store! I am blown away by the orchestrian piano. I never knew such a thing existed. I have a ’22 Gulbransen player piano and although it plays if I play it (LOL), it does not have the player mechanism anymore. I think the old pianos have the most character and style.

  47. What a great site! I love Trapp candles — they’re from my part of the world! My favorites are #2 and #4 (the orange vanilla) One candle will fill every corner of Linderhof with scent!

  48. Pat@Back Porch Musings says

I believe that pillow “needs” to come home with you, Susan!

I love the fork idea. I bought some vintage flatware, just a few pieces, to make a windchime and never got around to it. I think I’ll try a fork stand project!

    Wonderful Pink Saturday post!

  49. cottage farm villa (aka cottagecharm) says

The Max pillow brought back memories of my 20 year old cat Winnie. I found a trinket box with her pic on it one day and bought it….it actually had two cats the other her sister Tigger..both on the box! It was a crazy find!!!! Enjoyed the pink tree. Please stop by if you get a chance and visit my blog and see my green tinsel tree, up for the holidays! So fun! Looks like you had a ball shopping….. ~Cheryl

  50. I’m so glad you are going back to purchase the cat pillow. It’s perfect and I think you would always say ” I should have bought that”. I use to do that alot, but now if I want it really bad I dig deep and purchase it. LOL
It’s cold her too, got down to 18 last nite. Happy Shopping.

I love the pink tree by the way!
    Blessings,
    Debbie

  55. Wow, Max does look like the pillow cat! My favorite thing was the etched cloche, but I’m with you, the price was a tad steep. I think I mentioned it before, but one guy I went to high school/college w/ lives in Roswell, and another’s children live in Roswell – he in Atlanta. Small world.

  56. And one more thing, I LOVE those vintage ornaments. The colors are awesome. They go well w/ that pink tree.

  57. Love all the “finds” you discovered on your shopping trip. And the Kitty Pillow/Real Kitty is Priceless.

  58. at the cottage says

Awww I ove that pink tree but Max is a sweetie. *mews and purrs* for sweet Max :0))
