A Winter Wardrobe Metamorphosis

Welcome to the 412th Metamorphosis Monday!

I have a wardrobe update/metamorphosis to share for this week’s Met Monday. Recently I added this cute navy and white J. Crew Buffalo-Plaid, Wool and Cotton Shirt-Jacket to my wardrobe and oh my gosh, did it start something! I’ve enjoyed it so much, I decided to do a little shopping to see what else was out there that I was missing in my winter wardrobe.

Talbots is  having a great sale right now and I found quite a few things I couldn’t resist.

I’ve paired the buffalo-plaid shirt-jacket with a red Burberry scarf I already had and red pants purchased from Talbots last year, similar to these: Red Slim Ankle Pants. The boots are from L.L. Bean several years ago. I don’t know if they still make this style, I haven’t seen it on their site in a couple of years.

I’ve been hoping to find some leggings that were made from a good heavy material and not too tight. I fell in love with these plaid ones and plan to pair them with either the red Lauren Ralph Lauren snowflake sweater I’ve had for a few years, or perhaps the red sweater I just purchased on the right. Both sweaters are nice and long so they work great with leggings.

Here’s how the leggings look, they are super comfortable! I love how thick/substantial they are–you don’t look like you’re wearing tights! lol They are super flattering, not clingy like so many leggings. Wouldn’t these pants be cute with my red Hunter boots? The Hunter boot sale (40% off) is still going on here: Hunter Boots Winter Sale. I purchased two pairs to give as gifts this Christmas since you so rarely see them on sale.

You can see the color of the leggings a bit better in this photo. They are navy and red…really pretty, an understated plaid. They are available and on sale here: Red Plaid Legging Pants

The red sweater on the bottom right is a new purchase this season.

It comes down nice and long which I especially like with leggings. It’s available here: Red Sweater

I also purchased this blackwatch shirt while in Talbots, and I love how it looks on! I’m planning on pairing it with navy cords and the merino wool sweater I purchased last year, although looking at it here in the picture, the basket-weave pattern in the sweater may conflict with the blackwatch pattern. Umm, may have to rethink that.

I may wear the fox Stubbs and Wootton shoes I found on sale last year at J.Crew to complete the outfit. J. Crew is having an awesome sale right now with everything 40% off.

Had to get this adorable blue polka-dot shirt! You’ll find it available on sale here: Polka Dot Shirt.

In Talbots they had it paired with the Snowglobe sweater shown below. I was tempted to get it because it has little white flecks all throughout that look like falling snow. I barely resisted the sweater but may have to order it…so cute! The sweater can be found here: Snow-Globe Sweater. Update: Had to go back for the snowglobe sweater, it was calling my name! lol

The plaid Sperry Duck boots are available here: Plaid Sperry Duck Boots. You may remember them from this post: 6 Pairs of Shoes That Kept Me Warm, Cozy and Comfortable in Italy.

The tweed shoes are by Stubbs and Wootton purchased in a half-off sale last year. Unfortunately, they are no longer available.

The last thing I purchased was this navy, cable-knit poncho. It’s part wool (which I really like) and on sale drastically reduced from $129 to $40 here: Cable-knit Poncho. I haven’t worn a poncho in many years, but couldn’t resist this one at that price. It’s generously sized. I normally wear a small or medium in tops, depending on the top, but I took an X-Small in the poncho. So you may be able to size down. Check out the reviews to see what others said about how it fits.

So, that’s my wardrobe update for now. I’m sure I’ll be adding a few more thing before winter is over. I love all the plaids, the wools, the tweeds, the sweaters, the scarves, the boots…all the clothes you get to wear for winter!

  2. Do you make home visits. I need you to come and style me. Sheila

    • lol I’m doing good to style me. 🙂 I was noticing, everything I bought was in the navy, red, green family…guess I know my favorite colors, at least for wintertime. Is it wrong that I’m already thinking about spring?

  3. Some really neat things…..I love those leggings for sure! You are going to look so sharp in any of these ensembles!!! Thank you for sharing! Stay WARM!!

  4. Oh, Susan, I love everything. You will looking smashing wherever you go!

  5. Cute outfits, Susan. Ann Taylor has some nice heavy weight leggings, too. I own three pair.

  6. Thanks for hosting Susan. Talbots does have awfully nice clothes. 🙂 Merry Christmas!

  7. Never mind the clothes. You always hit a home run on clothes, but where are the little velvet boxes filled with OMG surprises? Or does Santa put those in your stocking and you really are surprised?
Not in my house. I pick, he pays and then I swoon all through the season.
    Oh what fun….

    • I saw those online at J. Crew Factory. The only difference I saw was that they are all cotton where the one I purchased at J. Crew is 42% wool and 50% cotton. I guess that’s why they are more expensive. They are really warm. That’s a great price on the all cotton ones, though! Thanks, Kayla!

  9. What a wonderful stylist you are Susan. Classy and Preppy! I love everything. I’m a poncho gal, I have a nice Burberry. Where?! Sitting in the closet getting no love.
I’m going to stop in Talbots!
Thanks for the great ideas. I appreciate all you do for us.

  10. Nan, Odessa, DE says

QUICK!!!! Order that sweater from Talbots. It is one you must have.
    Thanks for sharing!

    • The only thing that stopped me from buying it was it has a Christmas wreath on it so it’s pretty seasonal. But it sure is cute! Sooo tempting!

  11. Susan,
Thank you for your personal shopper service! I really only shop at Talbots so thanks for the heads up! Your favorites lists are always wonderful. I have enjoyed the cross body purse you recommended. It is so perfect for quilt shows and tours. Thanks and have a wonderful Christmas!

    • I’m so glad Carolyn! I used mine a ton last year when I was traveling so much. I’m looking forward to taking it on another trip some time.
I know what you mean about Talbots. They are definitely my favorite store and I’m lucky there’s one so close to my house. Especially love their sales!
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, too!

  12. I enjoyed seeing your new selections and thought process! I like the subdued plaid look of the pants. Everything looks great and will look cute on you. I live in a snow belt and hardly wear my winter boots! Only because I get inside and then I want to kick them off because I get too warm! LOL.. Talbots does have some nice clothing that holds up well. I had a jacket from them for so long I lost track of how old it was.
I think I’m done with posts for the year so I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas!

  13. Love your Stubbs and Wooton flats! Merry Christmas!!

    Big Texas Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  14. Love your new outfits!!!…and love those plaid leggings! Thanks for hosting Susan…Merry Christmas!!!

  15. Merry Christmas to You! And a smart shopper too. You bought some really terrific pieces, Susan. I really like those leggings with the zippers at the ankles! I need to clean out some stuff, but that usually doesn’t stop me from picking up a few more pieces…..but I end up falling into a rut I call my uniform…..good for walking everyday and hauling things at the mall, but a little on the underdressed side for being out otherwise. As always, thank you for hosting us. Gosh, I just realized, it’ll all be over when we get together again next week.

    • I know, hard to believe how fast this month has gone. It will be time to take down the tree before we know it.
      Have a wonderful Christmas, Rita!

  16. Great style that has lots of warmth. These could make winter tolerable, maybe even fun!

  17. I love everything you purchased. Your style fits my style perfectly. I shop mostly at Chicos but Talbolts is right next door and I always check out that store too. Plaid seems to be very popular this year and I’ve always loved it. I remember as a child my mother made me a red and black pleated skirt that was much loved. I wore it until I began to get taller and could no longer wear it. Thank you for sharing your beautiful purchases with us today and reminding me of precious memories of my mother’s talent as a seamstress.

    • I should check out Chicos more often, they are just across the street from the Talbots that I frequent. Oh, what a wonderful memory, Kathy…love that! ♥

  18. All beautiful classic pieces! You have excellent style! Where you standing on a ladder to take that last picture? LOL!!

  19. Susan those are great pieces! I wish I was as fashion savvy as I am with the house. Merry Christmas!

    • Thanks, Pamela! I’ve been shopping at Talbots so long, it seems like most of my clothing all works together. Merry Christmas to you and your family! XX

  20. Juanita in OH says

Thank you Susan for the enabling, smile. I just bought a pair of slippers at J Crew! The sale is so nice to have. All of your pieces are wonderful. TFS.

    • Thanks, Juanita! They had the cutest slippers this year. I almost bought a pair when I was in there buying the check shirt. Merry Christmas, Juanita!

  21. Happy holidays Susan and thank you for all the wonderful parties this year! Your wardrobe looks great, and I love ponchos for Southern winters, they are so perfect for our unpredictable weather- Merry Christmas!

  22. Pretty and bright wintery clothing choices, very preppy east coast looking. It is always fun to share our shopping finds. I have a lot of Talbots and J. Crew, but love to mix in Anthropologie and Free People, and a lot of Nordstrom. Is Nordstrom also in the East? Oh, and Boden USA too. I think the UPS man is considering an intervention.

  23. Thanks so much for the great party. Love all the clothes that you have selected – they will be great for winter.

    Merry Christmas

    Mary

  24. Susan, Love it all…as usual. Thanks for hosting. Your parties have always been my favorite. Looking forward to Thursday. Merry Christmas.

  25. Sherry Stuifbergen says

Wow, I see dollars adding up! Do you get a discount from Talbots and other clothng lines? This looks like a whole pay check.

    • No, no discounts other than the sale that’s 40% off. Two of the items I purchased were on clearance, so I got another 10% off. Also, Talbots has a reward program where they give you points each time you shop there. So you may want to sign up for their reward program. Sherry, you should check it out, definitely won’t take your whole paycheck.

  26. Cute outfits for sure, love ‘m.

  27. Love these clothes Susan. I am a Talbot’s lover as well and have several of those. I’m hoping the snowglobe sweater you didn’t buy is under the tree from my mom but if not, I’ll be ordering it for sure after the holidays! I’m going to check out those Sperry duck boots and see if I can find some at a reasonable price that I like.

  28. Cyndi Raines says

Very classy Susan – love all of it. Are you coming north for Christmas? You will need them. Today, in the thumb of MI we had a high of 12, but it was a bright sunny day so although pretty crisp, it was nice. (Not like Thursday, when it was frigid cold,6 degrees, with a bitter wind! Not sure what it the temperature was with the wind chill – too cold for even us northerners!) Trusting you are better and will have a WONDERFUL Christmas! We appreciate you and all your fun and educational blogs. (Happy Birthday to me on Christmas Eve – I’ll be 60! woowee – can’t believe it! And you’ll soon have a birthday in January, right? )

  29. Thanks so much for the great party Susan. Love all the clothes that you have selected, great for winter.
    Merry Christmas!

  30. A chic classic for certain!!! franki

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
