Thanks so much for all your thoughtful and helpful comments on my previous post. I read all of them and appreciate so much your input. After I pull together a few more of the pieces that I hope to add to my office, I should have a better idea how I feel about the rug. I’ll be sure to share those updates if/when they occur. Again, thanks for all your input and ideas!
Now that Halloween has passed and we are officially into the month of November, I’m getting excited about the upcoming holidays! Someone asked in the comments recently if I would still be putting wreaths on the windows of the Georgia house as I normally do, and the answer is a definite, Yes!
They are my favorite Christmas decoration to put up this time of year since I enjoy how they look from both inside and outside.
I’m not sure if I’ll be hanging them on the Dollhouse windows since the windows on the front of the house are such varied sizes. Plus, they have screens on them. I think the screens may only be on the lower half, and those can be raised, so maybe I could raise them and keep those up during the month of December. The windows tilt in, so I’ll have to see if there’s a way to tilt them in, hang the wreath, then tilt them back into place with the window holding the wreath in place. Not sure if any of that will work, need to check it out when I’m next there.
By the way, if you hang wreaths on your windows or doors and could use some new ribbons, you’ll find the ones I love and use that have long streamers, here: 12-Pack of Red Bows with Long Streamer Ribbons.
A Whimsical Decor Idea: I’ve always enjoyed mixing in a bit of whimsy and fun into my decor—those little unexpected and sometimes hidden gems that you come across during the day that put a smile on your face. We need that every single day in our lives, don’t we? The more reasons to smile, the better! Now that I have a home near my grandsons, I love thinking up ways to surprise them. A few weeks ago I decorated the staircase with some very mischievous mice.
Well, those sneaky little mice have decided to move in full-time! Do you see what they’ve done?!
They made a little door for themselves right here in the wall going upstairs!
It looks pretty cozy in there, doesn’t it? I wish I was small enough to crawl inside and take a little tour. This bit of whimsy would be so cute in a home library, near a bookcase, or really anywhere! I love it here on the staircase because as you start up the stairs, it’s right at eye level so you can’t help but notice. This adorable mouse enjoying a good book in his cozy library is available here: Mouse Reading in His Library.
I just ordered this one today. I think she’ll be so cute in my office near my puzzle board.
This adorable Puzzle Mouse is available here: Puzzle Mouse.
I’ve also ordered this one for Christmastime. Sooo cute! (Christmas reading mouse is available here: Christmas Mouse.)
There are so many cute ones from which to choose! (See them all here: Mouse Hole Decor.)
This one is on my wish list to go in the living room near the built-in bookcases in that room.
They even look cute on the back of laptops. You’ll find this one (and the ones above) here: Mouse Hole Decor.
See you tomorrow for Tablescape Thursday!
This has nothing to do with this particular blog entry, but I was visiting Walmart yesterday and I saw something that reminded me of you. Lego has a bonsai building set, and knowing how much you enjoyed your Lego purchases, you should see this one! It looks very “real”, and I bet it would look really cute in your doll house sunroom, as a “plant” (that never has to be watered and needs no sun!). It’s currently on sale, I don’t know if this is new, or has been available before, but I thought it would be a nice activity for your grandsons to do with you. Good luck!
That sounds really cute! That sounds like a great “plant” for the sunroom since going between houses mean they don’t always get watered on time. lol
Oh, how adorable those little mouse holes are! I think my granddaughter would love them. I’m sure your grandsons think they’re really fun, too. Life is too short to not have fun!
Exactly! 🙂
Thank you for the link for these adorable mouse holes. While I’ve seen then hand painted, I’m much too old for lying on the floor to paint one. I can finally own one!
I agree! It was so easy to apply, I just made sure the surface was dust free first. I like the ones that show the “plaster” on the inside, they look so realistic.
Red Poinsettias in pots (artificial..?) in those darling window boxes would be so festive..! Christmas truly is “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”..!! Merry…Merry….Merry..!!
That would be pretty! I need to refill them now.
Your grandsons are so lucky you moved down the street to play with them. Their parents must enjoy them being safe at your house.
Could you hang wreaths with a command hook at the dollhouse ?
I am still with removing those cedar ? bushes near the front door to open up the porch area to decorate and show the door.
FYI The comment page is covered in ads that lead to TikTok.You can’t delete them.
Thanks, Myrna! I don’t see any ads in the comments, but I’m reading on a desktop. Trying clearing your cache or restarting whatever device you’re on to see if that fixes it.
The Mouse Hole, got to have them. I think I will place them throughout the house and see if anyone notices. Should be fun!
I love that idea! I have a feeling that’s what will happen at the Dollhouse. I keep thinking of places to put them. lol
Oh my gosh, those are adorable! I don’t know how you find these things. Going over now to take a look.
Hi Susan, I will have to say that this post was so nice I really enjoy reading your posts you are so creative I just loved the mice where you find these things is just great, I get so many ideas from you I thank you so much for your ideas. You are a great inspiration for all
So glad to see that you surprise your grandsons with a touch of whimsy. They grow up so fast so make it fun for them when they are young. Their visits to grandma will always be memorable. Respectfully, that rug overpowers the room. The architectural details and wonderful windows almost disappear because all you see is the rug and the floor. I love the chairs and the light, airy, feminine touch that they give to the room.
OMG from that first picture at a distance I thought for sure it was real; and that the mice did that while you were in GA! What a great trick!
I love your rug and chair combination!
I love the little mice and their hidey holes! Just too cute!
Susan, I enjoy your post and your creativity. But I draw the line when it comes to Mice decor! As the weather turns cooler, they(mice) are looking for shelter. It’s not a CUTE situation!
Yeah, these are the only mice I want in my house. 🙂
hahaha. but a cutie mouse doing a puzzle in Susan’s cottage is just too cute an idea to not do.
Mice everywhere!! Those are sure cute. I’ve noticed them before on Amazon and Temu. The puzzle one is especially perfect. Since it is getting colder here the mice are looking to check in. My house cat as been busy. Only problem she brings them to the bedroom around 2 a.m. to show and tell and drops them on the bed! They then seem to get away and make an escape. Can’t tell you how many times I have screamed. lol
The mouse hole sneak peaking into it doing a puzzle is so you that I actually squealed about it. SO ADORABLE and perfect for the DH.
About Cowgirl’s thoughts on having faux red poinsietta’s in your DH window boxes. Absolutely brilliant idea. And a candle in every front window is all you need for the perfect “Colonial Williamsburg” look for your sweet cottage. I’d leave the perfection of your wreaths for your gorgeous GA home.
I love the mouse decals and just ordered one for my kitchen book nook. I’m definitely in the mood for a bit of whimsy and fun. I enjoy your blog, Your home expresses you and isn’t a slave to currant trends. I love that you keep treasured pieces and incorporate new things from time to time. Have a lovely week!
