Welcome to 823rd Metamorphosis Monday! A few days ago I shared a chair I had added to the office. In that post I asked how you liked it, and the reviews were mixed. If I counted, I think more of you liked it than didn’t, or perhaps the ones who didn’t were just being polite. lol
I was a little surprised that a few folks didn’t think it worked well with the rug. I love mixing prints as you can see by a glimpse into my living room back home.
So by the time I had written that post, I had already ordered a second chair to create a little corner here in the office. In that previous post, I mentioned that I didn’t have anything here at the Dollhouse with which to “style” the chair since all my throws, pillows, etc… were back in Georgia, specifically a taupe/brown throw that I wanted to use since I wanted to pull out some of the brown tones in the chair.
Unfortunately, that throw is back home in my bedroom in Georgia.
While I awaited the delivery of the second chair, I went ahead and ordered a throw in the color that I had in mind. Once it arrived, I decided to use it to see how a solid color chair would look in this spot. In that previous post, a few readers suggested I consider a solid color or a tone-on-tone fabric for my reading chairs. Just for fun, I draped the existing chair with the taupe-brown throw. In case you’re curious, here’s how that color chair would look in this room with the rug. Granted, this probably isn’t the best example of how a solid color chair would work in this room, but for me, it just feels a bit too safe. I know some of you suggested a small-check, upholstered chair.
I do love small checks on chairs…but I think it would take a long time to locate a pair that I would love and that was affordable with all the other projects I’m working on in this house.
Here’s a wide-angle shot looking into the room from the hallway just outside the office.
With limited “styling” tools here in the Dollhouse, here’s how the chairs look tucked into this corner. There’s still plenty of room to walk behind them to access the closet and the elf door cabinetry tucked into the eaves. I need an elf emoji to use every time these doors, located in various rooms upstairs, show up in a photo. Ha!
Try to imagine the chairs with a round, cottage-style table (and lamp) in between them. I want the table to be sort of a medium brown color (not painted white) but not too dark/formal looking. I’m going for a casual vibe in this room. (Chairs are available here: Chairs.)
In case you missed the previous post, this is the table I’ve ordered that won’t be here until November 11. I love the rattan on the shelves. I am concerned about the color since the reviews indicate that it can be inconsistent and look too whitish, so it may go back. Will have to wait and see how it looks once I get back to the Dollhouse toward the end of the month.
I’m also toying with the idea of adding a casual, round-shaped coffee table in front of the chairs since I have so much space. There are some great-looking ones online.
I have a small, heart-shaped table between two reading chairs here in Georgia. That would be cute too, although heart-shaped tables don’t offer a lot of surface space for drinks and such.
Once I have a table to go between the chairs, the floor lamp will most likely end up elsewhere since I’ll have a lamp on the table.
I only have a few books (so far) on the built-in bookshelves here in the Dollhouse living room, but I’ll be moving the majority of my collection to Dollhouse on my next trip back toward the end of the month. One of the reasons I’ve been moving most of my books here and out of my office back in Georgia is because I haven’t been happy with the Ikea Billy Bookcases in that office. The shelves have begun to sag under the weight of all my hardcover books. I won’t have that issue with these solid wood shelves that are original to the home. Pssst: While we are here in this room, here’s a little secret I’m considering for this space—a rolling library ladder. The ladder would live over to right near the wall, when not in use. I’ll share more on that later since it may be a while before I can work on that idea.
Okay, back to the chairs. lol As I was playing around with the new bird-covered chairs, I was really wishing I had brought up one of my favorite birding books. I was so happy when I found it on one of the shelves in the living room. It was like that feeling you get when you’re on holiday, wandering around in a foreign country far, far away, and you suddenly see a friend from back home. I almost kissed this book! lol What better book to style beautiful chairs covered with birds than a book all about birding!
I know I’m giving you a ton of pictures of these chairs…I figure the more the better to see how they actually look in this room. By the way, this chair below is the second chair that arrived, and I love how the bird design ended up on this chair—so beautifully centered on the back. I’m glad these two chairs, ordered a few days apart, don’t match exactly in their fabric placement. That would be awful. Thankfully, the birding pattern ended up being NOT in the exact same area on both chairs.
I’m just a little bit smitten with this fabric!
Whenever I see rooms online or on Instagram that include books, I always take a screenshot and try to enlarge it to read the titles of the books. If you do the same, here’s a good picture for you so you don’t have to strain your eyes. I can’t wait until all the books are here in the Dollhouse. It will definitely start to feel more like home when those are all here. You’ll find all the books above at these links below: The Birding Life, Nell Hill’s Rooms We Love, Country French Living, An Affair With A House, The Soul Of A House, A Passion For Flowers, At Home With Carolyne Roehm.
Okay, so try to imagine a pretty round table and lamp between the chairs, and maybe even a round coffee table in front. I can’t wait to sit here with a glass of iced tea and read some of these books again!

I like the chairs and rug together. I find the plain chair a bit boring. Sorry, it’s only my opinion. I like everything you do. Just wondering, what house are you putting the window Christmas wreaths on? Can’t wait to see this house decked out for Christmas.
Love, love the bird chairs! I am thinking perhaps a navy throw or burgundy to bring a bit of bold color to the chairs from the rug.
I am a big fan of library ladders, as I love books…decorating, tablescapes, landscaping, gardening, birding, and faith-based!
P.S. Mary Carol Garrity (retired now) of Nell Hill’s lives near me and the shop is close to me for great experiences in decorating ideas.
Thanks, Susan! I’m back in Georgia so I’ll hang those up in just a few weeks on the house here. The Dollhouse is going to be a challenge for hanging wreaths on the windows since they are all different sizes on the front of the house, and have they have screens. I’ll have to look at those again when I’m back there in a few weeks.

We have to keep in mind that the chairs are a part of a bigger picture for your office space. Trust the process!!!!!
I think the chairs are BEAUTIFUL. Light and airy and looks great with the wall color and desk area. However, I feel the rug brings down the look. It’s a beautiful rug, however, I feel it does nothing for this whole room.
I love the chairs and would like to see a blue throw or pillows on the chairs.
I kind of agree with you about the rug. It’s pretty but not a favorite. I think a lighter rug would go better in this room. The chairs are beautiful with the bird print fabric but not the solid beige that does nothing for the room. So you are coming along quite nicely.
It’s all about depth of color.
Dear Susan, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your choice of style and fabric for the two chairs in your office!!! I too love mixing patterns and feel strongly it shows creativity, character and love of life, which you obviously have!! Please do not give one second of your endless energy to the naysayers and their dull lifestyles. 😮 } So love everything you are doing and look forward to all of your posts. Blessings, Jan Galyen
I absolutely love the chairs with the rug. I love combining different textures and colors as it makes the room so much more interesting to look at. No to solid colored chairs. Those chairs are so gorgeous and they look absolutely look stunning with the rug. I think once the table comes it will pull everything together. I love your house in Georgia and how you mixed and matched rugs with furniture.
LOVE the chairs, Susan. This is a woman’s office and the light print is perfect for some feminine furnishings. I think the prints work wonderfully together. The lighter color will work wonders for dark days and summer alike. Great choice. Thanks for having us over!
I can see from the comments that a lot of people don’t care to mix patterns like the rug and the chairs. Personally I think they look just fine. The fact that the fabric on the chairs is muted makes it work in my opinion. Besides, Susan, it needs to be what you like and are comfortable with. I like what you do, and I think this room will turn out great once you’re done! Your Dollhouse makes me want to start over with new furniture and decor in my own home!!! Sheryl
I love the chairs and I think they look great with the rug. But maybe tie them together with a solid blue and brown pillow on the chairs.
I also like the table you choose, but maybe instead of a coffee table an oversized ottoman might be nice. Maybe in a solid. (Love my feet up when reading)
Your new chairs are gorgeous and they look wonderful with the rug! I love mixing patterns too – it makes a room look more warm and lived in. I know just what you mean about finding favourite books again. After 5 weeks in my new condo, I’m almost finished unpacking and that’s exactly how I felt putting my books back on shelves.
Although I think your chairs and your rug are beautiful, I have to agree with others who say they just don’t go well together, however, I believe that we all have different taste and different styles and if you are happy with the look that is the most important thing. You live with your design choices and those of us that are naysayers don’t. Your house your rules
I think the chairs are gorgeous….soft and feminine …I think the problem is the rug…it’s pretty but overpowering- for a different room. Just a soft taupe herringbone rug would be better for the feel of the chairs….I think that rug makes the space feel smaller too. Have a great day!
I agree with this assessment. To me, the rug feels too heavy for the softer feel of the chairs. The chairs read as pastel while the rug read as bright. Just my opinion and it’s worth what you paid for it.
I love the chairs and rug but not together. I think the rug is too heavy for the soft colors of the chairs.
Have you thought about trying your diy stack of bound newspaper end table between the chairs in your new “reading” nook? Always like that idea in your family room.
I like the chairs and what you have planned for this space. Solid color chairs would be boring.
I love those chairs. Throw not so much. Rug is perfect
Chairs look great…Thanks so much for hosting. Have a great week, Sandi
what’s not to love, Your Style is a real treasure!
I like the chairs you bought, but, like other readers, feel they fight with the rug. The brown throw does help to better pull together the colours in the chairs with similar colours in the rug, but I agree with the person who said it is all about the depth of colour. Perhaps the other pieces of furniture you are suggesting will also make the rug less dominant in the room, because now it is rather a dark focal
point in an otherwise light and airy space.
Do you have another room where the rug could go?
Looking forward to seeing your office space evolve. In the end it is your room, and all we are doing is offering our perspective of how we think you want your office to look!
Have fun with putting your stamp on the room.
The chairs look great. With the plain fabric I feel like you will be looking for pillows or throws with pattern to liven them up. The chairs already provide the beautiful design of the birds you love. You have a decorating sense that mixes what you have and adding new items that blend well. Can’t wait to see all the changes ahead! P.S. Remember Decorating Cents from HGTV years ago? They did a lot of interior “redesign” using only what the owner had. I miss the old shows.
Hi Sherry, I miss the old shows too! I haven’t watched HGTV in years because it got so darned weird. There used to be so many good shows. I don’t remember all the names, but there were several that I watched. What a shame they changed the whole vibe of the channel. Oh well, that’s progress.
Thanks, Sherry! I know, I miss so many of the shows that used to be on…even the crafting shows they used to have.
I love the chairs and the round table and lamp will look great! Have you thought of a solid colored ottoman to use as a coffee table? Just a thought. I could spend an afternoon curled up in one of those chairs looking at/reading your books. Also love the idea of the library ladder – can’t wait to see it all come together.
I think that would be perfect, perhaps in blue.
I think the chair upholstery looks like a neutral. And adding the second chair is perfect. The single chair looked to lonely and out of place. Can’t wait to see it styled with the table.
Love the chairs, but not with that rug!
Surely you’ll be bringing that navy checked chair up there….be cute in this room!
Won’t u be bringing all your furniture from GA up there??
Not sure if/when I’ll move here. I may keep both houses for a bit. Here’s a post where I shared about that: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/when-am-i-selling-my-home-moving-answering-all-your-questions/
I normally don’t comment because I always believe if you can’t say anything nice, keep your mouth shut (LOL). So I will try to make my thoughts constructive. While I love both the chairs and rug, I just am not seeing them together. I also do not like the solid look. I copied two of your pictures into Powerpoint to show how your guest room chair looks with your new rug and I really liked it. I love to mix patterns and what your did in your living area in the old house is beautiful. The chairs in your new office just seems off with the rug. Of course, this is just my opinion. Keep decorating and sharing. Look forward to what you are doing!
Hi, I like those chairs, and I like the chairs in your living room in Georgia the bird chairs in the Doll House bring in a spot of color into the room and are so pretty. When you sit there and read your book it will bring you contentment and that is all that matters is that you like it
I love this room in the dollhouse as well as the paint color, the desk and the chairs. The chairs seem to be lost in the room because they are so light. I also adore the beautiful rug. I believe that what is not working for me so far is the rug is “saturated” with color for the rest of the details in this room. It’s not my room so you do you! Maybe additional items will anchor the rug more. Please accept my comments in the spirit that I am sharing them. Love you blog and I’m a faithful follower.
I love the chairs with the room just love it . You will need something across the chairs thinking about it maybe small settee or a bench think about it not sure but love the chairs even though I am scared of birds
I like the chairs a lot but not with the rug!
I like the chairs and I do think they go with the rug. It is nice to mix patterns as long as the look doesn’t get too busy. A solid chair would be boring. You have same colors repeating but with different values. And the round table is perfect. A smallish coffee table with books on it and an art piece would look great.
Susan, I love the chairs and rug. I don’t however like the solid color, so not you. As for the round table between the chairs, like the table you choose. Couldn’t you restain it darker. I personally would think about an oval coffee table. It would be perfect with all the sharp angles and rectangles of other furniture. You just keep doing you. I would buy the house just for this room. Love all you’re doing to make it yours.
O MY!! I love the rug and those chairs…I think they look beautiful!!!!
Thanks so much for hosting each week!! I truly appreciate it!!!
Hugs,
Deb

Susan, love the chairs and the throw is nice with them. How about a foot ottoman or bench where you could place a tray, and books in front of the chairs? Personally, the rug(which is beautiful) just doesn’t work imho because the ground color of navy is too deep a color depth for this room. Dusty blues and creams that are in the chairs would pair nicely with a lighter sisal or lighter woven rug and would keep the lightness and freshness of the room in balance instead of the jewel tones in this rug. Your office in Georgia is so warm and welcoming! I love your Georgia home decor, and know that transitioning from one to the other is going to take time for adjustments. Using your Colonial brass, personal items and beautiful artwork will really set this room and your “Dollhouse” apart, creating such an inviting hospitable new home to enjoy.
Looks better with the second chair. But still not crazy about the rug and chair. A taupe tone on tone would not look good, I agree. I admit I am more conservative in my choices. I would have maybe tried to pick up the yellow/gold tones in the rug. I look forward to the finished product, though. I’ll bet it turns out smashing! I just don’t have the foresight to imagine it.
One of my favorite architectural features is a doorway surrounded by bookshelves–across the top as well as both sides. Adding a library ladder is going to up the charm factor so much.
Something you might consider (and if you have the time), is painting the round table when you get it. I have painted several inexpensive Tarjay (demilune/halfround) accent tables with a BM paint color called Bayleaf. It is similar to the pretty soft olive green that is in your rug. I think it would work well with the rug and the chairs and perhaps help them to ‘get along’ with each other a bit more. I put glass on top of the tables and those two changes looked great! Never know it was a $89 Target table. I can send you photos if you wish.
PS. If I painted the table Bayleaf, I would leave the cane/wicker in the natural tone. 🙂 Deb
I love the chairs and the setting you have in mind. They add texture to the room. I cannot wait to see the table and lamp to finish it off.
I love the two bird chairs with that rug. It makes the chairs stand out instead of blending in. Looks great! I also love the idea of a bookcase ladder! That will look amazing and be very functional.
I really like the chairs with the rug. Ignore the complaints!
I, too, look at titles of books in pictures on blogs, and I have ordered some.
Love the chairs with the rug! You know what you’re doing.
I love, love the chairs!
I think it looks lovely. Those chairs obviously make your heart sing, and it will make such a cozy reading spot for you. I’m the same way about enlarging library shelves so I can make out the books. Thanks for saving my eyesight! ☺️
I wasn’t going to say anything because everyone is different. What pleases one person may be the opposite to another, obviously. This is your room. No one else’s. You do you and enjoy the heck out of it! But since others have weighed in…this is simply more of an academic comment. I’ve worked as a designer from a massive brownstone in NYC to country homes to cottages in other parts of the country.
There is a reason you’re getting a little pushback. The issue is not mixing prints. That makes a room interesting. It’s an issue of color values. What you did in your living room worked nicely because the colors were similarly saturated. Here, the washed, faded colors of the chairs are not dynamic enough to comfortably hold their weight against the saturated colors of the rug. This is because the chairs and the rug are at opposite ends of the color value chart. (On one end the colors are mixed heavily with white and on the opposite side are colors are mixed heavily with black.) Imagine that same pattern in values closer to the rug…same colors but richer. See what I mean? You are fortunate that the size of the chairs themselves have enough visual weight to help to moderate the situation. This is probably why you unconsciously find them acceptable. You do have good taste. I would suggest throws similar to the colors in your rug to help bring even more visual balance.
As I said before, what pleases one person may not be to the taste of another. That is a given. Btw, I’ve really enjoy watching the Doll’s House come together. You are so blessed to have a charming home near your family.
Thanks for this info, Yolie! Truly appreciate it. I know what you mean about the color values. I noticed some folks in the comments are describing the chairs as being pastel, but they aren’t pastel at all. The print is much darker, but they are also designed to look as if they are old and the fabric has faded in some places. So it’s like a dark print that faded, yet some of the darker hues remain.
I took one of the photos from the post and cropped it, so you can better see the intensity of the colors when viewing them in person. My photography with all the light coming into through the windows, and the floor lamp above isn’t helping show the true colors very well. Maybe this is why they seemed to work pretty well in person. I’m not saying they are perfect, though. I can always keep my eye out for an even better rug, but I really love the quality of this rug since it’s 100% wool and feels incredible underfoot. Maybe this same company will make a rug that would look even better with the chairs. Here’s a zoomed in view of one of the pictures:
The chairs are a perfect size. I say keep them and you can think whether to change the rug or live with it. It’s your decision and no one else’s.
Susan,
I think your office looks great. I even like the blue lamp shown on the round end table you ordered, and I think it would be perfect in the room. I’m not sure two round tables in the same space with two identical chairs would be a good choice, perhaps too much redundancy.
If you really want a coffee table, I would try a small square one turned at an angle, or perhaps an octagon. But, as someone else mentioned, I would prefer an ottoman in a reading corner.
I love the chairs and I love the fabric. I just don’t love them with the rug. Seems like the color and scale of the fabric is not playing well with the rug.
I never on social media ever want to weigh in with negative comments, life is too short to hurt someone’s feelings, but I think the comment from Yolie said it best. The viewers comments aren’t negative, they see what the expert designer sees and she was able to explain it so much better.
To me the style chairs and the fabric are charming, the rug itself is beautiful, they just don’t work well together as she pointed out. It’s not about mixing pattern and prints, I, too, love mixing prints, patterns and colors, it gives a room life because it’s what the eye focuses on and if it’s pleasing. As in your family room in Ga.
But, as Tim Holtz always says “you do you” and enjoy the process and the finish design.
Been busy lately and haven’t seen previous posts. I really like the bird print chairs with the rug. I also would like to know the blue wall paint on your walls as it’s pretty too!
Susan,
There’s something about those chairs! Maybe it’s the low arms. I love the bird pattern. I agree with Bren that a sisal rug would look very nice. The current rug is heavy. Drags down the chairs. I keep thinking about the navy check chairs in GA!
I love the chairs and the fabric! I think they looks great in the room and with the rug. I agree with you the table between needs to be a wood tone.
Susan your Rug is dark and would fit your furniture that you have in Georgia. But those chair are cottage and light color. So Maybe you should get a lighter rug. I feel your going modern also not Traditional like before.
LOVE the rug with the chairs together! Now you need a “tuffet” to rest your feet as you get comfortable in your chair!
There is never harm in asking someone’s opinion but always remember it is your choice in the end. I love the chairs, the blue in the chairs work with the blue in the rug. My thought would be to keep the floor lamp and just put behind the table, more room for the tea cup and maybe a table that has a lower shelf. Maybe a large ottoman in front for the chairs. Always nice to have a place to put up your feet when having a good read.
The chairs are light and airy, and the rug is dark and heavy. It’s a no from me.
I think having two chairs in the bird pattern helps. But when I saw your Georgia living room….all those colors are in similar rich darker tones. Then I realized why the chairs fight with the rug, for me. Though the fabric is muted in style, the overall look is light whereas the rug plays to darker colors. I loved mixed prints and for sure the chairs were a great value. But I know I have seen a lot of current rugs that have that aged look in a bit lighter colors that I think would compliment your chairs and overall room look better. Though I love the rug, it just doesn’t have that “cottage like” feel to me. BUT….at the end of the day, it is your home, and reality is, colors on the internet don’t translate well so it may all look much better in person than on line. IF YOU LOVE IT, that’s all that matters. It’s brave of you to even ask for opinions because you have GREAT taste and style.
And yes, I agree to the ottoman others mentioned verses a coffee table.
Ha! Aren’t you sorry you asked?! THanks to Yolie for her astute observations. Doesn’t matter what we think, it is your home so do what makes you happy! And enjoy the journey.
Susan, I love the chairs. They are beautiful. And the throw makes them look even better. Is there any teal color in those chairs or is it just more of a light blue? Is it a white background or a cream. Your room is looking great.
Thanks, Diana! I don’t think there’s any teal, just a dark sage-like green, dark blue, light blue, and dark taupe on a off white/cream background.
Hi Susan-
Love the chairs with the rug with the throw in this room! The round table and table lamp will tie it all together beautifully. You have great taste and instincts. Stick with them. 🙂
Susan,
I’m sure your birds would love to come sit in my bedroom filled with botanical bedding! I was brave and ordered 2 chairs from Ballard Designs and they look just right, but they are stiff. That is the problem with ordering furniture w/o sitting on it first. I guess I will have to have my two grandsons come bounce on them to make them a little more cozy! I hope your chairs are comfortable to snuggle in with one of your lovely books. Peace
I agree and love the idea of two chairs with a table & lamp in-between. This makes it so cozy. Years ago, I remodeled a custom home. Instead of a sofa in the formal living room, we chose two large stuffed white chairs located at an angle with a glass and teak wood coffee table in-between. This offered the ability to sit and visit with another person without having to twist your body to look at them. The chairs were custom made and very comfy to curl up with a book. I had a floor lamp behind each chair for reading.
Since you’re thinking of a small table in front of your beautiful bird chairs, I wonder if a small glass top table would work, giving a clear sight to the rug pattern and colors, without interruption. Perhaps a couple of bird decorated coasters for drinks would tie it all in. Just an idea.
I love that bird fabric and chairs! Also am loving how you ate decorating !!!
I was surprised at first with your choice of chair pattern but looking at it carefully for a while, it all works together well. I do the same mixing of patterns sometimes with tablecloths and napkins on my tablescapes. Sometimes you look at a couple of different patterns and at first they don’t seem to mix but then they just click together!
I’m also one who mixes prints and I’m picky as well about texture. When I look at the room as a whole with the overall lightness and light streaming in, I see the white desk (which is great) and I love love the chairs in there. What falls flat for me is the rug. I know you’ve loved it since day one! But to me the rug isn’t the same mood as everything else. Gorgeous on it’s own, and you’ve got a good eye, so if you love it, then keep adding to make it all work. Things are always awkward before they are completed.
What I loved about your Georgia house is the mix of old and new furniture. The Ohio house needs more character and rich wood tones. Can’t wait until you blend what you have between the two houses. The new chairs are beautiful on their own but overpowered by the rug.
If I do move there one day, my living room, master bedroom, guest room furniture will all be moved there, and probably some pieces from my bonus room, but not everything. I’ve never liked my dining room furniture, so it wouldn’t be going. I’ve mentioned in a few posts that I’m only furnishing what I absolutely need right now (temp. bedroom furniture, table/chairs for dining, washer/dryer, etc…) since I don’t know if I’ll actually move there full time. The room I wanted to make my office (the one in this post) would never work with my existing Pottery Barn Bedford modular furniture, so that’s why I’m furnishing that room with furniture I would want to keep long term if I did move there. Hope that helps explain a little why I’m doing things there the way I am for now.
Wow Susan. I don’t ever remember you getting feedback like this. You picked that rug because you liked it. It wasn’t inexpensive. I love those chairs with the birds. If you love them together, that’s all that matters. We are not seeing true colors. I love a big overstuffed chair for reading. I love the upstairs furniture in GA. In the living room in GA, is that an onyx horse head bookend on the top shelf?i have two of those.
I’m not sure what it’s made from, but it is really heavy. It’s some kind of stone. It’s okay, I asked. I truly wanted to know what everyone thought. lol
About 10 years ago I found a round table that I’ve used in a situation like yours. It has three drop-downs of the top that forms it into a kind of triangle between the pieces of furniture. I use two pieces of the top in the down position so the point is between the chairs. The third one I leave up and it’s in the back.
I also have a table like that. It is round with leaves up, but a triangle with leaves dropped. It is one of my few pieces I have kept for over 50 years, as it is very functional. But I think you can only find that in a vintage piece.
I love the chairs and rug and love them together. The dirt-colored throw is not good. I love a solid chair, but not here. Everything in a room does not have to be cottage! I think when you get the room pulled together with other things you plan, it will look great.
I like the chairs and the fabric but they’re fighting against the rug. I’d find another place for the rug and choose something lighter. It’s a beautifully light and airy room but the rug is too dark and dull. I must admit I never liked the rug as I felt it was very oppressive. I don’t usually comment but as you asked thought I’d chip in – but in the end it’s your choice.
Again I have to say, I’m all for mixing patterns, I do it myself, but it’s the light background of the chairs that just doesn’t mesh with the rest of the room. The idea of a reading area is great but the chairs just look like they are an afterthought to fill up space. The rug is the beautiful centerpiece and it takes away from that I think. Maybe the chairs could be used in another room? I know you love them!
I feel you have impeccable taste. You should be a professional decorator.
I love, love your new chairs and also love love the rug and feel they both work well in your room. It is a work in progress and awaiting many more accessories to pull it all together for that perfeclyt finished look.
Aww, thanks Ellie! I think it will look more cohesive once I get other things in place. Appreciate your kind words!

I agree with Yolie. I love your Georgia house and love mixing patterns. The rooms in your Georgia house have a nice colour flow in each room. I just am not in love with that rug. I like the chairs. But as many people have said, it’s your house, and you have to do what you are happy with! For me, the room is light and airy, and the rug has a darker den type feel. Again, to each his own choice.
Haha – we all have something to say! I’m so glad your beautiful corner makes you happy, and it makes me happy thinking about you all cozied up in your lovely chair with a book, and relaxing in a space you love! Thanks for sharing, and of course for hosting! See you on Thursday!
You need an ottomans.
I just love the pattern on the chairs. Now that you have two together the rug just looks overbearing. Is that the right word? When you decide on the table maybe the area will be floating around those pieces and the rug will not be the focal point. That rug is beautiful! Adding the bird books was a great idea! (Just thought what if you put that brown throw down on the rug and just had a border going around, to give you an idea of what would that look like? I know I’ve seen rug on rug.)
To begin the chairs are really lovely and look perfect in the room. The rug is gorgeous and its patter suggests it should go with the chairs bus as another said I think it is overbearing, The difference in your mixed pattern living room in Georgia is all the colors are dark, not such a contrast as is the new rug. Also, your beautiful wood “absorbs” it and it looks rich & interesting. I think that dark contrasted rug, as beautiful as it is, on a gray winter Ohio day will be too much. The lightness feeling of your room should be continued for those beautiful chairs to shine.
I love the chairs! Instead of a coffe table, I might try a lighter solid coordinating Blue ottoman with some kind of lightly textured fabric for interest. But whatever you do will look great!
I just saw this today on Wayfair. I believe it’s a match to the chairs you just bought for your office. It’s a one day only sale. https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/lark-manor-antonanzas-floral-manual-swivel-glider-recliner-kthm3626.html?piid=75754531
That does look like the same fabric! 🙂 Thanks for letting me know about that, Carol!
Susan, I love the chairs. I have a couple of questions, as I’m interested in purchasing one. Are they comfortable sitting chairs, and is there any teal in the design? I need a chair with some teal to go with a teal rug. Thanks!
I wouldn’t say they are the most comfortable, they are very, very firm. But I think as I’ve been sitting in one of them, it seems to be softening up a bit. I really won’t know for a while though, how much it will soften over time. I wouldn’t call the colors that I’m seeing, teal. Not sure how to describe the blue, but I wouldn’t think of it as teal. Looking at this chart, I think the blue is almost more of cornflower blue that varies from dark to light. https://www.schemecolor.com/teal-and-blue.php
It has a faded vintage look in some areas of the fabric, then it’s much darker in others areas.
I’m not at the house right now, I’m back in GA, but looking at closeups of the photos I took, there are a few areas that could possibly be considered teal, like the head of the dove-looking bird in one of the trees. But over all, the chairs don’t come across as teal to me.
When I’m back at the house in a few weeks, if you like, I can open the shutter panels and get some photos showing the colors in natural light.
Make that a darker cornflower blue, not a lighter cornflower blue. I’ll take better photos once I’m back at the Dollhouse.
Thank you so much! I also thought the head of one of the birds looked like it had some teal.
I love the rug, and I like the chairs…just not together; it’s like combining winter and summer. Perhaps try a textured rug in a neutral (like your throw). That way you’d keep your room light and airy. Opinion: Close up shot; the look would pass, but when I saw the full room shot; it was a “no go” for me.
