Adorable Lamp On Sale + An Easy Way To Repair Scratches On Wood Furniture

Before we get into today’s post, I have to share something special that I purchased yesterday. There are only a few left so I’m sharing it now in case you would like one, too.

As you know, I am a huge lover of lamps. I rarely use overhead lighting in my rooms because I love, love, love how a room, looks under soft lamplight. So whenever I come across a pretty lamp, even if I can’t think of a place for it right then, I almost always buy it. You can never have too many lamps—that’s my philosophy. I can always find a spot for another beautiful lamp, especially when it doesn’t have the ubiquitous, dreaded, plastic drum shade.

I wish I had known about this sooner! Pottery Barn got together with another one of my favorite brands, Lilly Pulitzer, and together they created this beautiful lamp—and it’s on sale! Unfortunately, this color has already sold out, but there are still two beautiful designs available.

This lamp is also available in this beautiful fabric. I’ve always loved the colors blue and green together! Notice the pretty design of the base.  It reminds me so much of the cannage design of a Lady Dior handbag. Christian Dior was inspired to use a rattan-cannage pattern in his designs after being inspired by the Napoleon III chairs that he had in his salon. The base reminds me so much of that cannage design that I so often see in Dior pieces, especially their handbags. (This lamp is on sale here: Lilly Pulitzer/Pottery Barn Lamp.)

This lamp is also available in this charming design. I loved this one just as much as the pink one, so this was the one I purchased. Since I decorate with a fair amount of blue in my home, I’m sure I can find a great spot for this adorable lamp. It may end up in a bathroom or perhaps the Butler’s Pantry in the Dollhouse. I love having soft lamplight in a bathroom in the evening, especially in the guest bath. Guests don’t have to fumble for a harsh overhead light, but instead are greeted by beautiful lamp light when entering the powder room. You’ll find this lamp on sale in two designs here: Lilly Pulitzer/Pottery Barn Lamp. Pssst: Last night, when I ordered my lamp, I did it via the phone, and the representative. I asked about the pink lamp and she confirmed they are out of it and don’t expect to restock it. She added that she was showing that they have 12 lamps left. I don’t know if that’s total or just in the color that I ordered.

Furniture Repair-Small Touch-up: A while back, I used a paint pen to do a small touch-up on a gouge on the porch table that you often see me use when setting a table here on the porch.

Not sure how this tiny gouge happened. The paint pen helped, but I noticed the gouge was starting to be more apparent again.

I came across these wood-fill/wax crayons that are supposed to help with wood repair and decided to give them a try. (Wood Filler Crayons are available here: Wood Filler Sticks/Wax Crayons.)

I went with the white color initially, but then realized the ivory was closer to the color of my table. So I removed the white and added in the ivory filler.

Here’s how it looked right after I applied some filler with the ivory crayon.

Next, I used the scraper that comes with the kit to scrape off any excess.

The spot I repaired is right at the tip of the Wood filler crayon. Do you see it in the photo below? The dent in the table is almost impossible to see now that it’s filled in.

Here’s how it looks standing back a bit further. The touch-up repair is pretty much impossible to see unless you know exactly where to look, and even then, it’s hard to see. I’m very happy with the result! Just wanted to share this in case you have a gouge in a furniture piece in your home. Be sure to read the brief instructions before using it. The scraper that comes in the kit works great for removing any excess filler. (You’ll find this wood repair kit available here: Wood Filler Sticks/Wax Crayons.)

When I have a scratch on my wood furniture, if it’s just a surface, I find these Stain Repair Markers to be super helpful. They are great for minor scratches. You’ll find these available here: Scratch Repair for Wood Furniture.

  1. You have such a good eye! I’ll never look at a lamp the way again.

    • Gosh that’s cute…”Lily Pulitzer” shades, imo. AND, that crayon filler is “da bomb!” TY!! franki

  2. Really adorable lamp. I have a ring mark on my kitchen table that I can’t get rid of. It is a vacation home so we have lots of company. Someone must have put a glass on the tabletop and it left a ring.
I tried the markers on it and I tried using a hot iron to “lift” the mark. So far nothing has worked. I may need to send it out and have it refinished. Right now, I have a placemat covering the mark.

  3. Wow, that wood filler worked remarkably well! That’s a great tip, Susan. Thanks. I also love the idea of those lamp shades. Pretty colors and fabrics.

The weather near me is heavenly. I hope it’s beautiful where you are too.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
