An Impromptu Tea Party, Mad Hatter Style

This morning I heard such a ruckus going on in the upstairs family room! I hurried down the hall and threw open the door to see what in the world was going on in there! Look!

It’s a tea party, Mad Hatter style…and I wasn’t even invited! Umpf!

I don’t know which I’m more obssessed with these days…this precious Alice in Wonderland china designed by Paul Cardew.

Or these adorable sock monkeys.

They have magnets in their hands so they can actually grip the tea cup.

Cute, cute, cute!

You’ll be seeing more of this china for a Tablescape Thursday sometime. I bought 6 place settings in the grown-up size…now I’m on the search for the perfect centerpiece to create a whimsical tablescape.  Update:  You’ll find a grown-up size Mad Hatter Style Tea Party here:  Tea Party, Mad Hatter Style and a full tablescape/table setting with Alice in Wonderland dishware here: You’re Invited to an Un-Birthday Party!

I found the miniature tea set at HomeGoods for $19.99. Later, I located additional pieces in Marshalls, Tuesday Morning and on eBay.

Tea set: Alice in Wonderland, Designed by Paul Cardew.

That china is absolutely adorable!!!! Thanks again for having everyone at the Classy Flea last night! My mom & I had soooo much fun!! If my house (which is actually furnished by my husband before we were married) was just a bit more "shabby chic" – I would have gone NUTS in there! I tried to retrain myself last night – we did get a GREAT lamp!! It was so nice to finally meet you in person!!!

Loved this post! I happen to have three granddaughters who would love the sock monkeys. I went to their website and found that they are available in different sizes and colors (each of my granddaughters has a different favorite color and I have to get it right!). We don't have a Home Goods here, but I am looking forward to a trip to Texas this month and have already given notice that we will be stopping at one then. Annie

  31. Thanks for the invite to the party last night. So much fun. Taking my daughter back there to see if she likes a few things I spotted for her new home. I did tell the owner how much I enjoyed his article on silver pieces that he wrote this past year. Buying a new computer this week so I can blog again. I will let everyone know about the date for my pool party later in the summer.

Very cute! I love that set too. I saw it at Tues. Morning and almost picked up the set (in adult size) but I'm trying hard to stop buying more plates/dishes. I need to use the ones I have first.

    Hugs,
    Joanne

  34. There's no need to show me that AWESOME Alice in Wonderland tea set and then tell me where to find it. I have to have it! I have to!! Can't wait to see your tablescape on Thursday.

  36. Kathleen says

How cute is that! Magnets on the monkeys, only you!
Pray for gdaus, S., my 3 little gsons would be dangerous around that set. You'd have flying monkeys, and enough broken china to do a beautiful mosaic! 🙂
Now how about a clock, or a large hat like the wicker one I used…or one of those huge tea cups planters they have?for your centerpiece..

  37. Judy @ In His Grip says

  46. Sue (Someone's Mom) says

My grandsons are coming this weekend. They are 1 and 3. Guess what I have here for them…striped sock monkeys! My husband thought they were a bit girly, but the boys are still so little…I bought them anyway! I'm sure they won't like them nearly as much as I do…they like things that make noise and you can bang on.

You bought the adult version of that china. Is it okay if I hate you just a little bit?

  47. OMGosh, these are the cutest things I've ever seen. I HAVE to get both sets for Deeds, my youngest grand. She would LOVE these. Maybe for Christmas. I hope I can find them online as we don't have the stores that you have.
    Thanks for this delightful post…
    xo
