Welcome to the 871st Metamorphosis Monday! Recently, I was chatting via email with Heather, who just completed a wonderful guest bath renovation. Heather’s bath is a small one, like the one I’ve been working on here in my home, so I couldn’t wait to see photos of how it turned out. After seeing her photos, I am starting to think these smaller bathrooms are the most fun to renovate!
Heather shared two “Before” photos so we can see how the bath looked prior to the renovation. As you can see, originally, the bathroom had beadboard.

Here’s how the sink looked in this bathroom before the renovation work began.

I was excited to see how the picture-rail molding looked in Heather’s bathroom since that’s the same thing I am hoping to add in my small bath. Heather said, “For the picture rail, I had to do a lot of math. I put up tape to get a visual. I’m glad I did because then I found my first measurements would have had the light switch plate in the middle of the chair rail! Went back to the drawing board and lowered the chair rail. Then I made the distance around each box 3″ rather than 2.5″ to better work with the console sink.”

Such a great idea—to do a mock layout to make sure everything is going to fit and look the way you want. Great tip! Let’s check out the “After” photos of this small bath renovation!

Small bathrooms can be a bit tricky to photograph due to their small size, but I can already tell how much I love this transformation!

Heather said, “The wallpaper is the passion flower pattern in peppermint from Le Fleur. As for the specifics, I knew the wallpaper creator used Little Greene paint when she handmade the wallpaper. I double-checked with her before ordering my paint, and she confirmed that the wallpaper factory had color-matched it to Little Greene Aquamarine 138. We don’t have that locally, so I ordered a sample pot and took that to Home Depot for a color match.” (Note: The paint is showing up a bit brighter in a couple of the photos due to the lighting, but other photos in this post give a more accurate color and how perfect it is with the wallpaper.)

Here’s a photo that better shows the true color of the wall paint. You can see how perfect the paint goes with this gorgeous wallpaper! Beautiful color!

Heather shared, “The faucet is the Moen Meena in bronzed gold. When I got the mirror, the finish was more of a bright gold, which would have clashed in between the light fixture and faucet. I found Rustoleum makes a champagne bronze spray paint, and it was easy to get the match. Of course, the console sink meant exposed plumbing. We used brushed brass where we could, and that seems to blend well. Thankfully, my husband was a plumber back in the day, so he knew what we needed, and we shopped for it ourselves. The light fixture is actually made with individual glass rods (it came with some extras just in case). You can hang it horizontally or vertically. Console, light, mirror, and faucet were all from Amazon.”

Here’s a great view of the sink and the pretty light Heather chose for this area. I like that the sink has a place for a hand towel—great for small spaces! Heather said, “The biggest challenge was the sink, as the space is so shallow. I had to find one that wouldn’t block the door. This one is the smallest I could find, and it’s probably an inch too big. But I don’t notice it at all. I love how the console base shows more of the woodwork and paint color. I don’t really need storage here. The basket on top of the toilet is working just fine.”

Heather said, “For now, I don’t even want to put any artwork on the walls because I love the paper so much. I’m sure you’ll love yours when it’s done as well.” I bet you’re right, Heather! I may not want to add any artwork. In a way, the paper is the art in small bathrooms. I really like how Heather painted the interior of the door the same color as the molding. The added picture molding elevates this small space, making the lower wall feel as if it’s wood paneling. Love that! What a wonderful surprise this room must be when guests open the door to enter! Thanks so much to Heather for sharing this beautiful bathroom renovation. Such great inspiration for my small bathroom renovation!

LOVE it all. Such thoughtful details for a small space. I agree….artwork would be like gilding the lily! 🙂
I am thinking of converting a larger closet to a bath. would you be able to share the dimensions of this room? thx
Hi Beverly – the room is 65.5 inches long and the sink wall is 30.75 inches wide. The toilet wall ends up 28.25 inches because of the bump out for a plumbing chase.
Such a lovely makeover. Very tasteful. Absolutely needs nothing else added. The fixtures are beautiful as is that sink! It’s a small room, but now has such a big impact without overdoing it.
love, Love, LOVE the bathroom. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. We have a small bathroom in the mud room and I would love to use dramatic wall paper. This is inspirational. Looking forward to seeing yours. XO- MaryJo
This is a gorgeous bathroom update! The color and finishes on the fixtures work so well together. Heather, you did a fantastic job with the molding, too! That takes patience, and with some homes, trigonometry skills if the walls aren’t 90 degrees.
Well done!
I am not usually a wallpaper person, but I love this wallpaper and the paint color. What a great choice.
Gorgeous, gorgeous Heather!
Hi Susan, the bathroom is beautiful!
I think that I remember that you once recommended a step ladder with handrails on the sides. We have moved to a new home and are looking for another ladder. I have been unable to find it anywhere on your blog. Am I mistaken?
I think it was this one that’s at the top of the page on the far right. It says unavailable, but the first one on the left at that page looks very similar, so it may be their newest version of the ladder that I purchased. It doesn’t have handrails, though, just a handle at the top.

Big upgrade with the wallpaper, paint choice, and molding. I have that same toilet and love it because it appears “dainty” in a small space (it works perfectly). The new flooring is nice too and also love that the inside of the door is painted same as molding. Not sure about an open sink, but it does make a handy towel holder (rather than ruining a wall with screw holes). Also I see the electrical switch and plug were moved ( curious, is the switch above the toilet a dual switch?).
Hi Kathleen – The switch above the toilet is for the exhaust fan.
O, ya, O, ya, O, ya!!! KUDOS!!!

What a beautiful makeover!!! Wow, this has to be the smallest guest bathroom I’ve ever seen but you have made it into a star of the show! Great job!
I absolutely love everything about that room! I’m not sure what I love most, but that light fixture is stunning and since I am in the process of redoing my bath, the sink has really given me something to consider. I also love the deeper shade on the bottom. I think a light color would make the top look too top heavy — it is perfectly balanced. It is just beautiful!
It looks fantastic!!! Love the color!!
Thanks so much for hosting!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!! I hope you are enjoying your week and you are doing well…
Hugs,

Before & afters are my favorite thing. Heather’s bathroom redo is lovely and just goes to show what a big impact a small space can have.
The bathroom redo is pretty. Don’t need anything on walls with wallpaper.
What a fabulous makeover Heather – well done!! Love the wallpaper and the paint color. The molding is gorgeous. I want to do my half bath too at some point so I am pinning this as inspiration. Thanks for sharing Susan!
It’s possible to see that wallpaper being designed by Anna of the YouTube channel “How to Renovate a Chateau Without Killing Your Partner”. She has shown the full process.
Yes, Linda. Thanks for mentioning the channel. And I’m sure you know my inspiration was her master closet. I contacted Anna to get the paint details. She was so helpful. And I love that I saw the pattern actually being carved on her channel.
Susan! Thanks for sharing the absolutely gorgeous bathroom makeover. Stunning! Calming colors. Heather is highly talented! They say don’t sit on the toilet scrolling your iPad. Ha! I could live in that bathroom.
Hello, long time follower and reader of your posts! Could you tell me the name of the white/cream paint color of the molding outside the bathroom? Thank you!
Hi Sandy – the white trim is Sherwin Williams Greek Villa. The wall color Sherwin Williams Shoji White.
Oh WOW!!! This is absolutely exquisite. I just keep going back to it to take it all in again. I cannot love it enough. Great job, Heather. Just a little jewel box!
Thanks, Vickie! That’s exactly how I sold the plan to my husband. I wanted to open the door into a little jewel box 🙂
