A Look at My New Expandable Flatware Organizer, Great For Wide Kitchen Drawers

A few days ago, I shared about this wide drawer that is located in the kitchen of the dollhouse, and how I had found it with the center bottom of the drawer busted downward, held that way due to a large bolt that had somehow become wedged between the back wall of the drawer and its bottom. I discovered it was that way the first time I placed something in that drawer and immediately heard the item fall out into the cabinet below. After pulling out the bolt and a couple of more items that had become wedged into the back, I was able to bump the bottom back up and into place.

Repaired Drawer Bottom, Not Supported

After finding it broken and before trying to repair it, I purchased these drawer supports that I found online thinking that perhaps the drawer bottom had been too weak to support something that had been placed inside. Not sure if that’s how the bottom became broken out, but since this drawer is the only drawer in the kitchen that’s wide enough to support flatware, I wanted to make sure it was good and sturdy before I placed any flatware inside. (Drawer repair/support kit is available here: Drawer Repair and Support Kit.)

Drawer Repair Where Bottom Has Fallen Out

After adding extra support to the drawer, just in case it was needed, this was the flatware holder/organizer I chose to go inside. I love how it’s designed to expand and fill the larger drawers that we so often see in kitchens today.

In addition to being expandable on each side, it’s also quite deep, almost filling up the whole depth of the drawer.

You may remember that I purchased new “bee” flatware a few months back. The new set has the same “Napoleon” bee design, except the bee design is highlighted in gold, making it perfect in a lot of bee-themed table settings.

Needing flatware here in the Dollhouse, I brought up my set of regular, non-highlighted bee flatware. I can’t get over how big and roomy this organizer is—love all that extra space! Not sure what I’ll place in the empty areas, but I know those will eventually get filled.

It was so nice opening this drawer for flatware last night and this morning, instead of having to dig through the plastic storage container the flatware has been in since I brought it up. It’s these little changes that make life so much nicer, ya know! If you could use a flatware organizer that is expandable, you’ll find this one here: Expandable Flatware Organizer. If you aren’t sure your kitchen drawer can support a wooden organizer since they are a good bit heavier, here’s one that is similar, but much lighter weight: Flatware Organizer.

  1. You are very handy at fixing things. Setting things up in a new-to-you house can be fun, but also a lot of work. I know from experience. We were transferred 12 times before we retired!

    “Behold, PERFECT!!” franki

  3. Loving the new bee ware.
At least you were able to repair the drawer. I really like the supports you found. Unfortunately, my large drawer in the bathroom tore up the side metal rails when it fell out. It’s really far down on the to do list but I may just glue the drawer front back to the counter and call it a day versus trying to find the metal guides.
When you orderd the refrigerator, what outside finish did you request ? When my neighbor bought a new one because theirs broke, it was less expensive to get the nonshiney and she always regretted it because every fingerprint showed up.
Hope you have more dollhouse to show us tomorrow.

  4. LOVE that organizer & LOOOVE that huge drawer! I live by organizers of every kind, in part because our lake cottage has teensy drawers that I wouldn’t be able to open, or find anything without everything in its’ place. Your bee flatware is just perfect for the dollhouse!

  5. Once again, Susan, you share another awesome idea for drawer organization. I ordered the large bamboo expanding drawer organizer for long utensils and knives, along with two knife holders that fit inside the organizer. Thank you for sharing all the wonderful things you are adding to your dollhouse creation!

  6. Did you show us the front door of the Dollhouse? Do you have a porch to decorate? It’s near 100° here and 100% humidity and I am looking at fall decorations. Too much time spent on Pinterest.

  7. Have you seen the Napoleon Bee 5-piece spoon set on Amazon? I know you have a million other things to buy, but I am a flatware fanatic and the pieces are something you rarely see in sets today. It has a large serving spoon, honey spoon, mustard spoon, jelly spoon, and a tiiiiny little salt spoon (so cute!). I purchased them first, just to have something from Napoleon Bee, because I really thought I had too many sets of flatware. But as my sister says, I finally “bit the bullet” and purchased a full set at a great price from Costco. Now that you have extra space in the organizer, you “need” something to fill it up with…

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
